Kim Min-jae | signed for Bayern

Feck him. If he’d rather play in an inferior league for a team that walks it every year then he’s welcome to it.
It's not really that surprising why a player would choose a club like Bayern over United. They are a superior club in every aspect on and off the pitch, guaranteed trophies, good money and deep Champions League runs most seasons versus a club who's not even remotely close to winning major trophies.

Kim will have wanted guarantees he would be in front of Varane. I think we should move for Šutalo 20m should get him.
Why Varane?
He plays on the left side for Napoli from what I have seen and no manager is going to guarantee one player starts in front of another...that is just stupid.

Yeah I wonder if those who are desperate for KMJ know this. However, the latter part of your sentence, I believe EtH has come to terms that he cannot play Varane week in week out so if we do sign a CB, it would be interesting to see how EtH rotates Varane, Lindelof and new CB.

Aesthetically he has everything you want in a CB but his long passing and his tendency to charge with the ball sticks out for me. Love his aggressiveness, bravery and front foot defending though.

So disappointed if the reports are true. Really rate him highly (my most wanted CB) and think he represents the best value in the market at the moment, and could make the biggest impact for us at the back. We are so close of having him on the bag.

Varane has played about forty league games in the past two seasons so we need at least three top line CBs regardless.
My concern would be getting a CB from the Italian league as it is a slower paced league and it seems fairly comfortable for Smalling and Darmian to play in.

A Bayern supporter eh?

Playing in a disgrace of a league with the guaranteed trophy? Germany is 80 million pop powerhouse yet they have 18 teams in the league. WTF? Bayern got the best sponsors and the rest of the league can’t raise money because of the rules. Slave League. A player who actually loves football and challenge wouldn’t chose Bundesliga over EPL.

Look the Bundesliga is uncompetitive when it comes to the title but let’s not pretend it isn’t one of the top 3/4 leagues around.

Exactly, cant blame him. Hopefully under new ownership, we can eventually get bck to being like bayern, i.e. well run, major candidatea for all domestic trophies and regulars in the last 8 or past 4 of CL.

I didnt realise he was the left sided CB until i watched the analysis video on the previous page or two.

Martinez has a wand of a left foot, ideally you'd want someone who has a wand of a right foot so your CBs can easily spread the ball out to the opposite flank.

I would have liked to have seen kim at utd, seems like a beast of a player and i think the fans would have loved his aggressive style.

Pavard wants to play CB isn’t it?

Bayern didn’t give him the chance and are replacing him with Kim?

The Premier League is definitely the most popular in Asia, followed by La Liga. Not saying they don’t exist, but rarely do you see someone wearing a football replica top of a German club (and there’s a lot that wear them here) - so if we did both put in offers, I am a bit shocked that he picked Bayern over United - that said he would be guaranteed trophies there - but wouldn’t at United.

Examples are Son and Mitoma; I doubt they would be getting the attention they get here, if they were playing in Germany.

You don't have to be a Bayern supporter to recognise they are a much better run club than United.
I just thought that using your analogy you would be a Bayern supporter before you were a Utd supporter.

How many of you had heard of this guy 2 years back? Let's not be as if we lost out on prime Cannavaro

We haven't lost out as usual some of the posters are overreacting despite the fact United wasnt linked with him by any of credible sources .

Not disputing the fact players can choose Bayern over United but I believe in this case United weren't even an option . Links to United was largely driven by Italian Sources and some English ones but they were never corroborated by Usual United Mouthpieces which always happens if interest is any thing more than tentative Infact it was dismissed by Whitwell .

It's hard to blame a player who does that right now. We have to get better and stay better. Then we'll properly be back at the top options table.

Plus we surely would have to be selling one of our existing CBs before we bring in a new one or at least there be credible links to suggest one was leaving.

Completely agree.

He is really good but always have a bit of doubt about the build up play and how he is with the ball. It just feel kinda unaturall. Todibo or Pavard looks better with the way we want to play from the back. I think if we really want to play from back and build up from there, there are many more we can go for.

If we want to play from the back then best defensive is rather not that a must for than the palyer that can play and build from back...like with what we want re Onana too.

From what I’ve seen Kim Min Jae is quite good with this? Conquers high up, passes fast, and is equally good with both legs, kind of like Dalot

Dont get me wrong he is a very very good player. How i see it, is just that he seems to be very good defensive side but dont show quite alot with the build up play which i think EtH will focus and change the players with buying ex Onana/Costa (well hopefully) and i think with Todibo (we link a bit?) Or Pavard is good enough esp Todibo with his pace, strenght, height, and the way he can do with the ball and get out of tight/press spaces.
We can get away with players whose defensive side worse than him but offer more with other aspect we need.

Why Varane?

He can play on both sides, as he has played RCB in Korea and China, as well as in the national team, while playing the central CB at Fenerbahce in a 3atb system. Definitely not limited to being a LCB.

He didn't need to do a lot of build up because of the way Napoli plays. They play high lines and KMJs main job was to break counters which he did excellently. If they had to build up, he contributed quite a lot, but as their CMs are better at build up than ours, he let them do their job. In the Korean national team, he is much more involved in the build up play.

Extremely disappointed. One of the very best on the planet in his position available for an extremely reasonable price. These are the kind of signings we have to kill to make because they are such huge cost savers in the long run. Sigh. Really disappointed. But Disasi is pretty good too so hopefully we can get him.
Disasi should be more like plan z than plan b. He’s overrated. They are churning out theses Young overrated French CBs.

if we miss out on KMJ it’s a big miss. Very disappointing

Agree. Disasi is terrible. The only reasonable alternative would be Pavard imo, but even then I would have preferred KMJ. At least Pavard costs less. But knowing our board we might sign Disasi for 50m or go after Robin Koch...

No need to engage with delusions like these. There’s this weird trend on here shitting on other leagues, especially the German ones. Personally, I believe it’s because the Premier League has completely sold out all its values and everything it once stood for, and those who cheered on that process now need to believe that it was for something. They want to believe that the success justifies the means. And that only works if the leagues who didn’t do the same are seen as tiny, pathetic leagues without any merit.
Makes it easier to see a club like City cheat it’s way to the treble, to see Chelsea cheat it’s way to the cl and now see Newcastle starting the same shit. It is a necessary process in order to not end up like the Bundesliga or Serie A.
It’s a boring and really sad attempt to justify one’s own passiveness during a time when one’s most cherished cultural good was stolen and stripped down for parts.

That will be why we are not in for him and its all paper talk then. We def don't need a left centre back. I was mistaken obviously and thought we were purchasing a right centre back this term.

All those who are upset, just see Disasi. He is a proper unit with pace. Would much rather invest in him.

But but how is this possible? @Cassidy told us nothing can possibly happen before 1st July.

Has it not been said a million times already that his release clause can only be triggered first 2 weeks of July? Nothing will happen before then
Well that’s not true. Many deals are done with the agreement they will go through on a certain date. Even those with release clauses activating on certain dates. i.e. Haaland to City done in advance.

Yeah would rather invest in an unproven CB from the farmer's league than in one of the best CBs of a title winning team.

Did you even read the tweet? If someone comes and offers a significantly bigger contract to Kim as Bayern have, they still have a chance.
That’s obvious. However he’s still able to agree a deal in principle with any club. Doesn’t have to wait till the 1st to do that.

I don't think anyone has ever said that, yet they have said that unless you want to pay over the release clause, you can't really deal with the club yet.

They dont really have to deal with the club if they are paying the RC.

If you read the tweet nothing is done because they can’t activate the clause before July as I said. They have no agreement with Napoli and nothing is signed. Very different from your City example and at the time Italian press said United has agreed a 5 year package with the player which is same here
