Kieran McKenna | Close to signing long term deal to stay at Ipswich

Knocked out Wolves after being 2-0 down. Two wins in a row against teams that played PL last season. With mostly players who played League One last season.

Given we struggled against Wolves what you’re telling me is we’d lose to Ipswich.

Some goal for the winner too

+ they apparently pretty much had their 2nd string out

Was at the game tonight. Don't know whether they'll go up this season but they're comfortably a better side than Luton and Sheffield United.

Nice to see him doing well.

Would love to see him managing us when he’s a bit older and more seasoned.

I hope he sees out the season with Ipswich as I can see the likes of Luton, Sheffield Utd and possibly Southampton looking at him.

I doubt he'd leave to manage any of those clubs, never mind mid season. Ipswich are on a different trajectory to those teams currently.

If Guardiola sticks around long enough, I think he could potentially be seasoned enough for Man City in a few years

Not sure about that. Every coach is aware their reputation can turn in a dime. It depends if he privately thinks he’s getting this team to perform way above their level or if he thinks they can do a lot better, if it’s the former I reckon a job where there’s a lot more spending power will be highly appealing. Getting promotion with then would be an excellent achievement but it’s such a long gruelling season in the championship.

Can't see him going City, was involved in our first team and is a huge United fan.

He's hardly got fond memories of his time here. Our fans hated him and he was one of the primary scapegoats during mission "it's everyone but Solskjaer's fault".

Plus, there's hardly an abundance of top level jobs around every summer. If they come for him, he'll go there.

Says who?
Brian Kidd? Mark Hughes?
Different times.

Another example of our fans not knowing what people do, how competent they may be and jumping to conclusions that it’s “not best in class” or “doesn’t have the experience”.

it’s clear that this fella may be young but clearly knows what he is doing without spending lots of money

he didn’t get promotion at United because hes one of the boys but rather that he was getting great results at u-18

Not sure if any of those clubs are in a financially better position either. Ipswich have some fairly wealthy owners now who seem prepared to put the money in to help get them back to the top. I think (hope) McKenna see's it as a personal project to get them back into top flight football and historically they are a bigger club than all those mentioned. Not saying he won't move on at some point but it would have to be a significant step up I think for him to consider it.

If City offer him the job to replace Pep in a few years, there’s no way he’s saying “Nah you’re alright, I’m a top red”

I’d agree. It’s also quite a bad move to join a club that’s currently at the pinnacle of what reasonably could be expected from them. For Luton, it feels like the only way is down from here, so McKenna would get none of the credit for promotion, but his share of the blame for relegation.

The difficulty will be if it’s one of the smaller but better established PL clubs like Fulham, how could triple his salary and increase his spending power by a factor of 10.

Was thinking more Soton as they were mentioned and have a bigger name but find themselves in a position where I think they probably need a better manager.

Are you a Wolves fan? I thought you brought a fair crowd and were quite noisy last night. We played Burnley in a cup competition last season and they were awful, brought about 12 fans.

Southamptons general set-up including wage budgets etc, is still at Prem level, so they could definitely offer him something that we couldn’t. The parachute payment alone for them this year is £40m, that’s more than double our entire turnover!

Also very good academy. I hope, in a way, Cassius is right. I’d like to see as many different teams as possible pushing into the PL rather than the usual names just coming up and down.

As long as we include Norwich in that grouping I’m fine with that! But I know what you mean.

Nah United fan but I live in Ipswich and go to the odd game. I was at the Burnley game last season too. 0-0 wasn't it? Thought Ipswich were the better team that day as well.
