Ki Sung Yeung

Yes and he's average. If he's so good, why are Swansea selling him and why didn't Sunderland take the chance to buy him? And why are only Aston Villa who only sign bargain basements these days are interested? Surely if he's as good as you make him out to be other clubs from all over Europe would be sniffing around at that price.

I don't get this idea of stacking up on average players. That's what got us in trouble in the first place.

Nobody ever sells players with 12 months on their contract, right?

But with Laudrup now out of the picture, interim Swans boss Garry Monk - who looks increasingly likely to be appointed permanently - sees Ki as playing a big role in his future plans.

Monk said: “Ki is a quality player. You can see the potential he has with what he has delivered for Sunderland this season.

“He has put in some great performances up there and he’s been scoring goals, which has not been great for us.

“In a way it’s good to see, but in another way you don’t want to see it.

“I think Ki could potentially be a great player for Swansea, but of course we will have to see how he feels at the end of the season.

“I don’t know if other clubs will be interested in him come the summer – all that will come out.

“But he is a Swansea player and he is the type you want at the club.

“We need to let players like Ki know how important they are going forward and I think he is.

“He might not have suited one manager, but it doesn’t mean he won’t suit the next manager. For me, I think he is a very good player who could play a key role for Swansea.”

And Sunderland boss Poyet has suggested that even if no permanent move is agree, Ki is now sure to remain at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season.

"There is a chance (of a permanent transfer)," said Poyet.

"Swansea had an opportunity to call him back, and they didn't.

"That was a difficult day for me because I was waiting and waiting.

"I think there are a couple of things we need to make sure - where we are and where we want to go, and with the player as well.

"I can see that he's enjoying his football and making a difference."

Ki has been one of Sunderland's star men this season, and scored in their 4-1 win at Fulham over the weekend.

"I want players with that mentality, to make us play, and he's been excellent," Poyet added.

"He's been the most consistent player for me, in my way of playing."

So why are Aston Villa close to signing him and Sunderland aren't? It's not like Sunderland have no money. They bid £14m for Borini. They could easily outbid Villa.

Are you serious?

Bidding £14 million for someone means they have £14 million.

If they then take from that £14 million they can't sign that £14 million player.

Do you follow?

I'm sure they are interested and if they have money spare they'll be one of the clubs in for him.

Another player who was "just an upgrade on Cleverley" last summer was James McCarthy.

Well thats just incorrect, he was one of their most consistant and best players. They wanted him back but Swansea want to keep him, his contract situation is a game changer.

He's a better Cleverley

His contract situation has been same from the start and he has been available for 6/7 million pounds reportedly for a while now.

As for the bolded bit, that's arguable but it wasn't as if he was really standing out or anything. He had good spells especially after Poyet was appointed but had some poor ones too.

He is a similar player to cleverley as in someone who recycles possession quickly playing the short simple passes but doesn't do anything fancy, but he plays deeper than Cleverley and isn't good at screening the defense too much. I'd say Cleverley is better athlete too.

He definitely has a odd game where you have to take notice but then flatters to deceive over a season, hence why Laudrup loaned him out in the first place. Been the same since i really took notice of him at the Olympics. Against us he was pretty good, had a good game for Korea at the WC and then 2 nothing ones etc....

What? Sunderland are in a better financial shape than Villa. I'm sure they can scrape £4m considering they lost 3 CMs this summer. So you would really think they would push hard for this transfer.

Bidding £14m on a player suggests they have a fair bit of money to spend. Do you follow? Sunderland usually spend quite a bit every season.

Oh I see, exactly how much do they have looking at those financial documents in front of you?

You're just assuming. £14 million is a lot of money to Sunderland and if Borini really costs that, it could be their lot. And that would be understandable for Sunderland to prioritise a player who scored important goals for them last year.

I followed him last season as he is in my fantasy draft team - did well at Sunderland, was one of their best players in my opinion. Im surprised Swansea dont seem to want to keep him.

From what I'm reading there are quotes about Swansea wanting to tie him down to a long term contract. If he isnt going to sign one then his current deal expires in 12 months so they're pressed into letting him go cheap

Sunderland have spent £30m each in the last two transfer window. Surely after losing three CMs they have £4m to spend on a player who apparently did well there according to you.

Like I said, we shouldn't be stacking on average players for the sake of it, but you don't seem to follow that. We already have too much average.

Yeah I shouldve read the last few posts before I came into this thread ;)

Certainly isnt the quality of player we should be looking for, but I think Ki definitely deserves to be one of the first names on the teamsheet for a Swansea maybe a new look Southampton.

One of our problems is that our cover isnt of sufficient ability.

Say for example Ander is injured for 3 months next season.

We replace him with what? Fletcher, Cleverley or Fellaini... Goodbye any hopes of top 4.

Ki would be a good backup for a low cost (£4 million) and could play more often alongside Carrick and Ander in a midfield 3.

Thats why I say he would be useful.

I hope there are other options out there too and we find them because our current situation is worrying.

Its not according to me, its according to their manager if you bothered to read the quotes posted.

Manager praises player shocker! A bit dodgy the same manager doesn't want to stump up £4m for him.

Was a great idea for him to call Ki "the most consistant player" if he doesn't want to keep him around

Bet that really made his squad feel valued and happy.

You have some great managerial ideas

I'd take him if that £4m price is correct.

He's a good player, and very tidy at keeping possession. I'd rather him next to Herrera then Fellaini, Fletcher, Cleverley or Anderson.

Rather we actually improved our midfield before going out to replace the squad players in there.

Had a decent spell at Sunderland last season to be fair to him though.

He's a really good player and would thrive in a good team like United. Better than the dross of recent seasons like Cleverley, Anderson, Fellaini, Fletcher etc. That said, United should be looking to bring in world class players not good squad players.

All I'm saying is if we had to sub a midfielder on, I'd rather sub him on than Fellaini, Clev, Anderson or Fletch.

At £4m we'd make money selling his shirt in Korea anyways.

I think after the Fellaini debacle, we shouldn't be so happy to take midtable midfield players. We need quality.

I absolutely hate it when people try to justify their hard-on for a player by saying things like "he's better than Cleverley/Fellaini/Anderson" etc... I mean come on? Are people using players that are not good enough for our midfield as the benchmark to who should replace them? Surely people can't be that thick?

Big statement, but I think Sigurdsson-Ki-Shelvey will prove to be the greatest long-range shooting central midfield 3 in the history of the Prem. 3 excellent shooters together, which you basically never see. Not sure about it defensively, though they clogged the midfield very well today.

If Montero/Dyer/Routledge can hit them with cutbacks and square balls those 3 will score some crackers this season. Montero, with his pace and being a proper wide player and Gomis, with his size and holdup play, look like clever buys to feed this. Weaker teams who want to sit deep against them in Wales and counter will have to come out and close each of those 3 down.

As I said earlier in this thread, Ki at a cheap price would be a great signing.

Wasn't he close to joining Villa at one point this window? Could do better than them.

Would be a decent squad player for £4m and could do a job covering for someone. He should be nowhere near a first choice CM for us though.

He's rubbish. Not even their best midfielder, sigurdsson is significantly better.

He's miles better than anyone we currently have apart from Carrick.

Herrera exists. Miles better is pushing it aswell, he just happens to have turned up twice when we've played him. He's alright, nowt special.

He got one lucky goal and did nothing else the entire match, and now he's the best thing since Paul Scholes. Pathetic.

Ki, Fellaini, Dembele and Charlie Adam always play (played in Fellaini's case) well against us.

Hes not better than Herrera.
On top of that hes not even that good, he would be another average signing

He wasn't all that great other than the goal, but he actually won the ball 6 times which is more than his teammates so he obviously didnt do nothing. Jones was the only player on the pitch to win it more. Probably didnt get involved on the ball as much as Swansea would have wanted

Well of course he's not better than our new £30 million midfielder.

He's better than any player we could put next to him though and available really really really cheap because he has a year on his contract
