Ki Sung Yeung

Been far better than Allen ever was, one of the best passers in the league statistically. Well done Swansea on that piece of business.

He started a fantastic move which ended up in Dyer's double chance. Anyone got a gif of it?

Don't have one. But seriously, Michu and Ki out of the Allen money, great piece of business.

Anybody who watched him at Celtic would have known he could easily cut it at this level, glad to see he's doing so. Swansea suits his style perfectly, and if he continues to progress I could see him ending up at Arsenal. Very gifted, hard working player with a great ability to pass.

He's got a lot of bite as well.

I thought he looked a very good player in the Olympics. Wouldn't look out of place in our midfield.

Yeah he was really impressive in the Olympics.

Celtic know how to spot a good midfielder, Wanyama is a cracking player, too.

Bump.

Didn't play towards the end of the season due to fatigue plus he is getting married in July, but a very impressive first season in the PL.

I think if he follows it up again in his second season, he will possibly be hunted by bigger clubs. Would be a perfect replacement for Carrick, or could even play beside him even though they are similar type of players.

He's not good enough for us at all. He was alright last season. He only played 33 games in all, 20 in the PL. Plus if he needs a few weeks of rest because he's getting married, it doesn't exactly suggest he's made of stern stuff.

Well he played every game in the Olympics just prior to his move to Swansea (Korea reached the semis and he also played in the 3rd place game), so I think by all accounts he does need some rest.

I think Laudrup gave him the last few games off because Swansea's season was effectively over mid March, since their League Cup win and there was not much to play for in the PL.

There aren't exactly a lot of quality deep lying CM's that are available in the market, is there? Considering age, price and all that.

Going on loan to Sunderland apparently. Surprised that he has become surplus to requirements at the Liberty Stadium, he was good last season and he is a handy player.

I'm surprised that we didn't have a look at him, even as backup.

He has a shitty mentality, thinking he's better than the club/manager
He's been punished by the KFA recently for posting insults and criticisms regarding the Korean manager and his teammates on his private facebook page
Now he's suspended from the national team (at least for now... apparently his father's closely related to the KFA so the suspension won't last long)
Also really looks down on the Korean players playing in K-League
I think this is what pushed him out of Swansea as well
Thinks he's too good for everyone

That's surprising. Always seemed like a fairly quiet, modest individual.

Very cocky

I remembered what got him in trouble with Swansea
He was recently married to a Korean actress this summer (she's like 8 years older than him heh)
I think he asked to be sent to Korean for something... qualifiers or friendly or something, claiming to be injured
Swansea rejected and he caused a fuss...

I think

I have to recheck the news

But yea, he's not a scholsey-type professional

I think he's had a falling out with Laudrup as well, hence the reason Swansea signed so many CM's in the summer. Will be a good signing for Sunderland.

Checked some news
None of this is confirmed or official but most people say he had a fall out with the Swansea manager because he asked to go to Korea near the end of last season
This was probably to make wedding preparations but the request was turned down anyways (he even faked an injury or some shit)

Then he screwwd over the whole Korean national team and manager with cnutish posts on facebook slandering them
Hes been punished by the KFA for this

Please disregard my previous post
I think this one is more accuraye

First of all, the comments are a year old about a manager who has since been fired. Second, saying that the Korean league is worse than the Scottish league should be patently obvious and uncontroversial. Definitely not "cnutish" behavior. Third, if you know anything about the KFA, then you know how corrupt and incompetent they are along with their K-League managers. Hiddink had to overturn their corrupt methods of player selection and poor management and coaches in order to bring Korean football success. The KFA has since gone back to its old ways. A few examples of mild sarcasm on Facebook pale in comparison to the criticism for the English FA and past managers like Roy Hodgson in biographies and in print by English footballers. Confucian culture does not allow criticism of superiors or the group, but healthy communication requires that at times.

As for this gossip about him faking an injury and trying to leave for Korea before the season was over, that sounds like a total fabrication to me. But since he managed to woo and marry one of the most desirable actresses in South Korea in a short period, it is not beyond the realm of possibility. Now that he is married, and she has given up her career to raise a family with him in Wales, there should be no reason to expect any more distractions for him.

I've seen him interviewed at length, and he always comes across as a thoroughly polite, respectful and lovely guy. If anything it is his passive style, perhaps a lack of toughness or bite in his game, that is moving him out on loan.

Criticism is fine if it is we delivered
But that was not how Ki did it

I know the Korean league is quite shit
But the way Ki treated those players is wrong in that they play for the same team, the Korean national team
Especially behind everyones back

Way to keep the team morale

Also, myself being Korean, Ive read his facebook posts
Regardless of Confucian culture, they were outright disrespectful

Hes creating a division within the national team between the domestic players and players playing in foreign leagues
Which was why the previous manager, as shit as he was, tried not to use the foreign league players
I dont see this as professional nor respectful for your own fecking teammates

He's got a lot in common with Bendtner then.

This is what I used to think about Ki but I'm not so sure anymore. Whatever the truth may be behind the KFA/Facebook debacle, it hardly puts him in a favourable position. He is a young lad, but he has been quite distracted by off the field problems recently.

Nows his chance at Sunderland to make amends and do his talking on the pitch.

Outside chance of him being a midfielder Moyes would like to have in the future. Done very well for Sunderland this season, their best player although in an advanced position in front of 2 deeper central midfielders. Carries the ball forward well, passes is around quite well, can make a tackle but less so from his current position... But the important part is he's 6 feet 1 and decent in the air which will excite David Moyes. I think other than Cabaye who is clearly a better player and has shown more in this league, he's a likely suspect for a David Moyes midfield.

I thought he was absolutely excellent tonight.

When all the other Sunderland players were taking on stupid shots and trying 1/100 passes, he was keeping calm and playing simple passes at the right times, and complex passes when necessary.

Since Poyet has come in, he's showing the kind of form that won him his move from Celtic. Not sure what happened to him at Swansea, but he's a very technically skilled and clever player.

Class player. Beyond belief that Laudrup plays Shelvey when he has this guy on his books.

Apparently he has some personality issues.

IIRC he's banned from his national team for incendiary/disruptive statements made through twitter about how he's so much better than his teammates/the coaching staff all suck compared to other international squads, etc.

Ditto Swansea loaning him out for a coded message on twitter or facebook that implied he wasn't enjoying playing for them, and blatantly ignoring a club request to reschedule his wedding date (not making that up - it's hearsay but I think he went AWOL mid season or pre-season.) FWIW, Park Ji Sung apparently doesn't approve of him/like him.

Refreshing to see an East-Asian with attitude. Park, Nagatomo, Kagawa, Honda, Nakamura etc, are all perfect role models and professional to the bone:lol:

If you go back in this thread, I think I said I wouldn't mind him here. I think it was after the Olympics. We need players who are a bit of a dick.

But that was before the Glazers looked desperate enough to go for the top-tier midfielders.

I can name at least 3,000 Caftards with personality issues, to be fair.

Hell of a memory.

Google doesnt seem to find anything to suggest he's banned from his national team. Got something?

Aha got something

INCHEON, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean footballer Ki Sung-yueng, heavily criticized over writing derisive online comments toward his former national team head coach, vowed on Monday to make a personal apology.

The midfielder for Sunderland in English Premier League arrived at Incheon International Airport Monday to join the national team's training camp this week. South Korea is scheduled to host Brazil on Saturday and Mali on Oct. 15.

Ki, once a fixture on the national team, is back on the squad for the first time under the current head coach Hong Myung-bo, who succeeded Choi Kang-hee in June.

In the final days of Choi's tenure in June, Ki was found to have written comments on his Facebook apparently mocking Choi.

Ki issued an apology through his South Korea-based agency, but many skeptical fans still questioned his sincerity.

Hong often stressed the importance of players' conduct and character, and left the versatile Ki off his squad for the first six games he coached.

Then last month, Hong finally called up Ki for the two October friendlies. Hong said he had a heart-to-heart with the player during his visit to England earlier in September and that he felt Ki was deeply repentant about the incident and was ready to put the controversy behind him.

Last weekend, Hong also tried to arrange a meeting between Ki and Choi, but the former national team coach refused, saying he preferred not to revisit a past incident.

Against this backdrop, Ki told reporters on Monday that he would still like to meet Choi in person to apologize.

"Whenever coach Choi is open to it, I will pay a visit and make an apology," Ki said. "I am truly sorry that I didn't apologize to him earlier. As a member of the national team, I feel a sense of responsibility."

Ki also had problems on the field in the past couple of months. He began his second Premier League season with Swansea City, mostly confined to the bench, having reportedly entered the doghouse of the head coach Michael Laudrup. Swansea City also brought in some midfielders during the offseason, which pushed Ki down the club's depth chart.

Ki was sent to Sunderland on a season-long loan in August and has since made steady progress, finally prompting Hong to give the 24-year-old a chance.

Ki said he is pleased to have made it back on the team and added, "I think it's important to show what I can do on the field."

So he made comments about the former international manager and apologised

He bossed the midfield for the most part last night. He was always a threat, as you could see our players swarming him if he got the ball on the edge of the box. His passing and his confidence in carrying the ball forwards was excellent. Very good player.
