If we're interested now, it maybe be because he is indeed much further along than previously anticipated.
This is 9 days later on the 30th of July.
I've heard the complete opposite, that he's a complete box to box midfielder, far from static, but I haven't seen him much so can't really sayI've heard people claim he will be an alternative to Vidal, but are they anything alike?
I would have assumed we'd want a genuine all rounder who can a bit of everything including running power.
From what I've heard, Strootman is a bit static?
Is he? I also had the same feeling about him. But I saw him play a couple of times, he seemed quite mobile to me. This is based on two games for Roma.I've heard people claim he will be an alternative to Vidal, but are they anything alike?

This analysis makes it seem that he will fit better alongside Herrera than Vidal would. Not that I think we are getting either of them soon. :-(Strootman isn't as athletic as Vidal is or all as all action. Vidal is slightly more attacking than Strootman as well right now.
As far as speed is concerned then he isn't the quickest but his Workrate is pretty good. He was pretty much a Khedira type water carrier when played as double Pivot earlier but at Roma has showed a creative side to his game as well and added more goals and direct assists to his game in that system and league.
Advantage to him is that he can play both roles pretty well as a specialist #6 distributing from deep and screening defense and also a #8 going box to box now. As a player though i'd say Vidal is a level above still.
We've become so desperate we'd like United to sign this crock instead of the other crock...
Some are talking as if this is a cert come January. I fail to see why Roma who have an excellent chance of winning the Serie A this season would just roll over and give us this guy without trying to squeeze every penny.
People expect us to be in for him, but of course Roma could tell us to bugger off.
If Strootman can through his toys out the pram like Benatia did, we could get a decent fee. They've also got a lot of central midfielders, so he he's not as pivotal for the side as Benatia was.Or more likely screw us for every penny.
His face is a bizzare combo of Arjen Robben and RVP's.
Still it is time for us to get our StrootON
My thoughts exactly. This year is a perfect oportunity for them to go for the title, Juve lost Conte and got Allegri which could be their undoing, and Napoli could put up a fight but they dont have such a good bench and that clown of Benitez is their manager.Roma is a very organized team and they showed to always have quality replacements ready when they sell top players. Rest assured you ain't getting their best player unless they could replace him and that tend to be a tougher task in January.
I think even if they were eliminated form their CL group they would still be one of the favorites for the leauge, Juve loss of Conte is a big blow for them. And I just think this might be Roma's year.
We will not be able to really move for him until next summer. If Roma are still in the CL there is no way they sell in January and there is no guarantee he would even be fit then.
Even if we don't get him this year, we're probably going to go for him next summer. A bit similar to the Ruud situation where we simply wait a year until medical issues are resolved.
We already waited a year while our manager issues were resolving.
Can you elaborate ?
Didn't Moyes block his transfer last season? Because he wanted Fabregas?
But can we wait?Even if we don't get him this year, we're probably going to go for him next summer. A bit similar to the Ruud situation where we simply wait a year until medical issues are resolved.
But can we wait?
Of course we can - because in all honestly, no player we buy now is going to matter unless we start playing as a team. We could buy Vidal or Messi and still struggle because our players aren't properly adapted to each other and Van Gaal's system.
No doubt Messi would make a difference but he wouldn't make Valencia any less one dimensional or the likes of Fletcher and Fellaini better than they are.
True, but i think we need our front 3 to be able to create chances for themselves as well when we get them enough of the ball like yesterday either individualistically or in between themselves as a combination. For me that's been the biggest problem or atleast one of the biggest problems so far.
Valencia and Young suck at wingbacks but they need to be supplementary attackers not the main creative outlets.
Need something like Suarez Sturridge combo or a Robben/Messi up top making chances for each other spreading wide, nutmegging/dribbling a couple off players. It's all safe and limited/static from the front 3 which ends up with the ball going back to midfield/defenders or out wide to the poor wingbacks we have offensively.
