Kevin Strootman

Did LvG actually confirm interest for him or is it journalistic sensationalism again? Sky Sports News have been running the idea that van Gaal has said he's interested in him but show nothing to back it up.

If this is the case I would rather we wait until next summer. Let him play for a few months before making a move for him.

That would probably be the best thing. Also if Roma are in the title race and still in the CL I doubt they would let him go anyway.

When asked about transfers Van Gaal said:

"Other players, not at Manchester United, I can't judge - I am not there. Strootman I can judge, but he has been injured for more than six months.

"We have to wait and see how he comes back. It's not so easy to come back out of an injury, so we'll wait and see."

I think Strootman was mentioned to him though.

Strootman can join United, afterall he's at Roma who based on there past have sold first teamers. However this will come at a cost, a huge cost. I'm talking 40m will see him move. They're not desperate to sell.

Hmm... Alright, that's somewhat of an indication we're in for him. Cheers.

I'd say closer to £30 million.

SSN have been showing a video from the press conference where he basically confirms that we're waiting to see how he recovers from the injury before moving in for him.

Well for one the Italian clubs aren't in good shape financially. Secondly, if Strootman were to push for a move and push for a move only to United, then the price will go down. They will not get £40m in that case.

I reckon we will wait and see how he is for the next 2 weeks, then decide whether to but him now or in January. Either way I think this will happen. Van Gaal clearly really likes him.

Roma are in a stable position financially. I agree, if Kevin would push for a move, then yes, however he doesn't seem that type of players, seems content at AS Roma. But yeah, many Roma supporters alike feel confident in this situation, I'm sure they're aware of the possibilities better than us.

They sold Marquinhos for close to 27m, will be considerably more for Kevin since he's there main man in midfield. Suffered with him out of the squad last year.
Didn't Roma do exceptionally well last year, barring the last few weeks of the season when Juve had already won it comfortably?

That the whole exact quotes? Strootman isn't at Manchester United so how he can judge? He's contradicting himself there

He was the Netherlands manager and worked with Strootman, this is what he was referring to.

Roma suffered due to the teams around them having greater depth in the squad. Roma have been sorting this out this summer with the captures of Ucan, Keita, Itrube, Emanuelson et al. Juve capitalised on this, as did Napoli, but didn't have a great effect on the standings.

Even if he can't play till October time, if out physios have a look and are happy at that, I'd be all for signing him now. Let him get settled in Manchester and with his new squad mates.

30-40m whatever, just get it done. We've clearly got money so we shouldn't mess around, just get the deals done and the squad settled together.

That is the figure they're looking at. If Roma are clever, they can hassle even more for him. Especially now since Ed has stated they can pay big. He doesn't understand the negotiations of transfers does he?

I couldn't watch the sky sports snippet since I'm not in the UK, but on youtube I only found him saying that he did not talk about players individually? Not saying he's interested or something at all, but perhaps I missed something.

Anyway Strootman is a good player, Herrera was a good signing too. But 40 million pounds for Strootman who has only showed it for 20 odd games on a decent level and had a serious injury, doesn't make me happy.

For the type of money we're throwing we should be getting players like Modric, Kroos, Fabregas, or Mata for that matter. But somehow we keep on missing the boat on players who are top-top tier in central midfield, yet we spend huge sums of money anyway.

If we do our scouting right, surely we could get a player with Strootmans potential for 20 million? Lars Bender signed a new contract, what would Leverkusen want for him?

Where the feck have you been? We already have Mata. Fabregas just choose Chelsea and Kroos was just signed by Madrid.

Exactly, Mata was a nice one but not a CM. Fabregas could play there, just like Kroos and Modric, and I think they were all cheaper than Herrera or the estimated fee for us signing Strootman.

I think scouting is yesteryear in todays world.....even we know about everyone.....more psychological profiling we need to conduct....i.e. Zaha...the ability but not the mentality for our club is there. We really need to stalk players instead.

Manchester United warned off Strootman bid

Roma boss Rudi Garcia has admitted his club would consider selling Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman to Manchester United this summer - but only for a 'three-digit' fee.

New United boss Louis van Gaal said on Friday he will monitor Strootman's recovery from a serious knee injury before deciding whether to bid for the Holland and Roma midfielder.

Garcia recently vowed that Strootman would remain at Roma this season, but just to make his point perfectly clear, he said on Saturday night that a huge fee would be required for the Italian club to even consider letting the midfielder go.

"What can I say about the rumours (about Strootman joining United)..." Garcia pondered with a smile after Roma's 3-2 defeat to United on Saturday.

"Maybe after a three-digit offer (€100m), then we will sit down and think about it."

Strootman, who Van Gaal knows well from his time as Holland manager, missed Saturday's game in Denver as he is continuing his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained in March.

The 24-year-old is making good progress in his rehabilitation, according to his manager. "Kevin is following a normal recovery programme. He is fine. He will start running soon," Garcia added.

I was really by this at first but United were asking for it. First Woody goes and talks about "transfer record" fees and Van Gaal takes the bait at the press conference and goes on to make his obvious interest known.

I think we won't get him till next summer. The wish, that we just sign him in January without a problem won't happen. So we need a midfielder this summer anyway and Strootman will hopefully follow next year, we need 3 midfielders, I never want to see a midfield like ours again.

Still pissed that we didn't sign him last year, such a good fee and it was obvious that he was talented, with our midfield options it was really a low-risk-transfer. Him and Thiago for what? 40 million euros

The Roma boss has chomped massively on this. I don't think there were even that many people talking about Strootman to us.

Strootman was the first non United player LvG ever spoke about so obviously there would be speculation after that but we're in no position to sign him realistically he has 4 more years on his contract so no reason for Roma to sell him now or in January even next summer would be tough.

I really like the lad wish we signed him last year when we had the chance but we must look elsewhere for an immediate solution to the midfield problem.

I see a lot of posts on bringing in midfielders but not always specifics. I think most of us are in agreement that we need a box to box guy like Vidal or a middle of the pitch enforcer, DeJong gets mentioned a lot. I feel a lot better about the midfield after watching the LA and Roma matches last night and I feel like we could still get by" with what we currently have, but wouldn't Vidal give us that added presence...........sigh, hope it isn't just wishful thinking.
Did ya'll see enough from any of the youngsters to inspire confidence?

Given that BBC says they want six figures for him, which is ludicrous, and given tha many of you want cm's and given that if Strootman is not in the picture then it has a lot to do with it. Maybe he moves for an injured Strootman which makes any other suppostion moot, maybe we do wait til winter.........if not, midfield is still an issue.

What was Moyes thinking going for Fellaini instead of this bloke. This is what happens when a West Brom level manager manages a big club

Christ almighty..

How much did he move for? £15m? That would have been value right there. If he had got Herrera and Strootman, I think he would have made the top four and he would be still manager. So I guess everything worked out in the end.

Dont torture yourself man, but we also could have had Garay & Thiago too. All three deals were in allegedly in place & Moyes vetoed them, as he didnt think they were good enough for the Prem..

The full story on Moyes' tenure will eventually come out. I look forward to that day with great anticipation..

I dont think he has a clue how to manage top players - he was massively, way out of his league. So even if we'd have signed top players last summer - there's no confidence from me that he would have got us into the top 4.

Last season was a mare, but he's gone thank f*ck & we now have someone who's a proper manager - with a proper management team behind him too!

very true actually :D

Yeah I share that same view also.....whether he had a team consisting of Messi and Ronaldo or instead one consisting of Heskey, Fellaini and Bramble - Moyes would still finish 7th...as his dour dinosaur park the bus methods along with endless crosses from the wing to some giant up front on the counter gets the same amount of 0-0 draws no matter who he has playing for him and that was clearly proven here last season

It really boggles the mind doesn't it. I would like to have been a fly on the wall during those discussions.
