I wont be surprised if we take the risk and bid for him during this transfer window.
Won't make sense though considering we'll have two injured midfielders.

To be fair, half the Caf was unconvinced on Strootman. If he didn't get injured he'd likely be a United player now. Feck sake I still can't believe Moyes vetoed him last summer when he would have costed only 18M now we'll have to pay double.
But his potential was clear to see, still had a good season with PSV it was mainly his performances in the under 21's Euro's which weren't good that turned people off.To be fair, half the Caf was unconvinced on Strootman.
If Roma are involved in a push for the title they probably won't be looking to sell him in January.
Need to wait and make sure he is truly fit and that the injury did not have a permanent effect on him. Last thing we want is Aquilani Mk II on our hands.
"Strootman is following a normal recovery programme, he has stayed in Boston to work with our physios, Garcia added. He will start running any time soon."
No way he will be fit enough to do a medical or even take part in proper training. Need to make sure he is fully fit before we go in for him in January or next summer even.
This.
Also disappointing that United may wait half a season to strengthen midfield further. We're writing off a title push and settling for 4th.
I think this is looking more like a target for next summer myself. Highly unlikely Roma will sell in January if they've still got plenty to play for.
I also don't think the interest in Strootman will cloud van Gaal's judgement this window. If he thinks we need a central midfielder, he'll go and get one. He won't write off half of a season or a full one on the basis that we might then get Strootman in the future.
I get the feeling that LVG will definitely make the price right for Roma. He alluded to this in the press conference he said that he is injured at the moment but 'we will see' with a rye smile on his face.I think if they survive without him until November they might take a gamble on selling him in January if the price is right.
You don't know what's going to happen! Just because we haven't signed anybody yet doesn't mean he is settling for 4th place. LVG doesn't strike me as someone who settles! This.

Oh of course I do think though if Carrick hadn't been injured there would have been a possibility that he could have waited. I do believe him when he says he is going to give it a couple of weeks though. He will know exactly what he needs and who can do the job for him.Sorry, I should've been more clear. I meant that we will be settling for 4th if we don't strengthen further.
It's clear as day that we need another midfielder to give us bite and mobility.
I don't care how good LvG is, he's not going to miraculously extract what we need out out some of the dross we currently have.
We absolutely shouldn't. Let's go for quality. We should go for Nigel De Jong.
We absolutely shouldn't. Let's go for quality.
Who'd you go for then?We absolutely shouldn't. Let's go for quality.

Who do you think...?
Surely our scouts and LvG can find a better player than De Jong. Carvalho for example would be a great investment, he is young, talented and already up there with De Jong. He wouldn't be just a player bought for 6 months. Or if all Lvg wants is someone who can do the job till Strootman then we could buy Tiago. He had a fantastic season at Atletico and he is similar to De Jong. The Bundesliga is also full of good midfielders.Who'd you go for then?
I haven't mention Strootman, it was about De Jong.So why on earth are you in a Strootman thread

I know, he would be a short term option just like De Jong so age doesn't matter. At the moment I rate Tiago higher.Tiago is 33.

Personally I think he is on a decline but if LvG thinks the same like you then im convinced.De Jong is 29. He'd make for a good medium term squad option.

Don't guys. This is a Hargreaves waiting to happen. We should wait at least until January and see how he picks up before placing a formal bid.
Hargreaves had a very different kind of knee injury than Strootman and I think Strootman has every chance of making a full recovery. We will probably know much more in January and might make a bid by then. LVG clearly rates Strooman a lot and he would have signed him by now if it wasn't for the injury.Don't guys. Could Strootman even pass a medical even on deadline day? I doubt it but who knows.
