Kevin Strootman

The only reason to pull out of a deal for vidal after all the money talk from woodward means he wants strootman.

Check up on his injury its its progressing well, Buy him now, and get him ready for late october.

LVG loves Strootman and he's only 24, which fits in what he said the other day about preferring to buy younger players. Getting him won't be easy though as Roma will be aiming for the title.

I'm done with all this muppetry bullshit. In several posts I have mentioned my belief that Herrera and Shaw will be our only summer signings but deep down I still keep checking the Vidal thread for surprises and end up disappointed.

We just don't make the most logical signings. Feck this.

If he really is back training then it would make sense to try and bring him in this window.
No it doesn't. He won't be 100% until November/December and it's possible the injury could have affected his game.

If he's back training then he would be back a lot sooner than that.

It's not ideal but I'm convinced we're going to sign him at some point, might as well be sooner rather than later (he'd have to pass a medical either way).

Best to wait and see, we can drop £30m or whatever it takes in January if we're still in the title race.

I think his only back in light training.

Yes we will sign him but it will most likely be next summer. I don't where people get the idea Roma will want to sell in January as well.

Not really considering how bad our midfield what happens if Herrera gets injured? We're well and truly fecked and won't be in the title race because we failed to strengthen the area more.

Who thought Chelsea would sell us Mata in January. If you have the money you can make things happen.

Mata wanted to leave because he was on the bench. I'm pretty sure Strootman who is also a starter for Roma would rather stay and help them win the title.

Make a try now to test the waters but I would wait til January where I do think we will get him.

Didnt Roma buy a midfielder to replace him anyway?

So annoying in hindsight that we could've had him for the price Roma paid.

Oh god it's depressing that all hope now lies with a player not many on here rated last summer, is just coming back from a serious injury so can't even play until nearly Christmas, and there have been no real viable links.

Surely there's someone else we will go for before him, is there no hope for Schweinsteiger? he'd be fantastic.

So we could potentially take a massive gamble. The team has to learn an entirely new system of play the club has never used before, under a new manager, new coaches and without Carrick, who is our only good enough holding CM for the start to the season.

Way too big a risk if we wait for this player. Another CM has to be signed.

I agree, not sure why many are saying that we've targeted him for the winter. If he's LVG's guy, we should bring him in now to get acclimatized to the team and new surroundings. If it's due to uncertainty over his recovery, then shouldn't we wait until next summer?

I originally thought we'd be better off signing someone else this summer and then adding Strootman in a year's time.

If there are no other quality targets though then we might have to take a punt on this guy's fitness now, which really wouldn't be ideal at all.

That said, I still haven't seen any real solid links to Strootman yet. Seems like people are just assuming he's a target...

Because he's Dutch, and LvG loves him, as simple as that, whether he's good enough is another matter

That just gives us an edge, transfers are hardly that straightforward , Roma enjoyed a good season last term, they possibly have a much better chance of having a crack at the title this term with Juve being handled by Allegri. They have also been very good during the transfer window and strengthened their squad while retaining stars of last year.

Sorry I misread the question, I thought you were asking why are people so certain we are in for him, I agree signing him will be a whole new ball game, Roma have no need to sell, don't want to sell, and probably won't sell, if they did they will likely want a fee that we won't pay so it doesn't look good really.

You can only hope LvG sees something in the youth for the midfield, or finds a gem somewhere that no else has seen.

To think I had some sympathy for Moyes. Remembering that he spent 27m on Fellaini instead of Strootman makes me hate him.

A small downside of having a new manager is...LVG needs time to evaluate the squad and to test his ideas in the Premiership before buying more players.

It is not a popular stance on here, but United have brought four £30,000,000 players in a row, and at some stage you have to take a break and see what the current squad can do.

I wasn't 100% sure Vidal was a perfect fit for United and i'm not sure if Strootman would add more than a fully charges Carrick either.

Roma boss Rudi Garcia says highly rated Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman will not be leaving for Manchester United.

New United boss Louis van Gaal knows the 24-year-old well, having only just stood down as Netherlands manager.

And, although Strootman missed the recent World Cup due to injury, reports in Italy have claimed that the Premier League club are still interested and have put in a bid of at least £30million.

But Garcia said: “Strootman is a Roma player, he will be a Roma player this year. There is no doubt about that.

"Only he can say whether he wants to stay but it was never an issue for him to go to another club. There is no question of it.

United play Roma in a Denver friendly on Saturday but Strootman will not feature as he continues to recover from the cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered in March.

“Strootman is following a normal recovery programme,” said Garcia. “He has stayed in Boston (where Roma played earlier in the week) to work with our physios and he will start running any time soon."

Former Chelsea man Ashley Cole is likely to feature for Roma against United at the Sports Authority Field and Garcia is pleased with how the former England defender is adapting to life with his new club.

"He is keen to learn the language," said the Roma boss.

"He wants to communicate with his team-mates on the pitch in Italian, and I like and appreciate his attitude."

I reckon had he not gotten injured we'd be odds-on to sign this guy by now, as he'd have gone to the World Cup with Van Gaal and also because there'd be less risk in signing him before he's recovered from injury. As it is I wouldn't want him this window because I'd want to make sure he's back to his best before splashing out.

Off already?Well, that escalated quickly
To the De Jong thread

Are you serious this guy is a beast he scores, assists (which are two things Carrick rarely does) has power and speed and tackles for fun he is to Roma what Pogba is for Juventus. Plus he is 24 not approaching 33.

Have you been reading Kevin's posts on here? Don't do it. Never do that!

Wanted him last summer.

Really think he ll end up here in a couple weeks though.
I highly doubt it. He is coming back from a serious injury. He needs to get back to fitness and we need to assess his legs and his game. Give it 12 months.
