Kevin Strootman

I've seen him a fair few times he is an engine type player, he could just run around for days he isn't a big goalscorer it's more his defensive contribution it is really underrated. He's a good box to box midfielder, He just battles to win the ball, he's a good distributor of the ball too.

P.s His hair is badass. :smirk:

That's the impression I got, again only seen him twice but looks like it's easy to see what he brings to the table.
 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder mate! we'll agree to disagree on that one.
Carrick as an option on the bench to come in for the last half hour to calm things down and kill a game off would be a comforting thought. Much more so than Fletch currently.
Yes, but be careful I've been feeding "mental football forum posts" for some time with such comments about Carrick...(they will find you in the end anyway...)

An ACL injury? And troubles players encounter coming back from them?

Remember Hargreaves? Or Vermaelen with Barcelona this season? Managers and medical staffs are well capable of making errors in judgement.

I wonder why would someone even want to be here if they trust the judgement of people involved in the game and use that as a logic to to stifle discussions? Of course, most everyone on the forum, unless they have inside information, make posts that aren't related to football on the pitch based on knowledge and information from different sources. Right?

So, please stop making asinine replies based on my comments. Or take that childish attitude and posts somewhere else.
Remember Van Nistelrooy???

Do we think Strootman will be Fellaini's replacement in the XI?

If Miguel Delaney is reporting it then we have an excellent chance to get Strootman in January. Will be brilliant to have him here eventually.
Delaney also saying we might go in for Vlaar in January. The 2 of those would really give us some brilliant options while also making the squad more balanced

He's a bit of a deceptively large brick shit house actually isn't he?

There is no way we will try to sign him before he proves his fitness.

Yes, on loan. I cannot imagine Roma wanting to send him to us on loan.

I'd much rather we waited until the summer. As I've said before, he won't be the difference between gaining a place ahead of City or Chelsea and he won't be the difference between coming 3rd or one of the other Top 4 challenegers pipping us to it.

If we wait until the summer we can make it a public courtship and encourage the player to make his intentions clear which will be the difference between spending £40m+ in January or around £30m in July.

Is he better than a prime Carrick when fit? If so I'd take him in a heart beat.

He's a different player to Carrick. Very different. I think Strootman could do what Carrick does better than Carrick doing what Strootman does, in my opinion.

I think Strootman would play instead of Fellaini in the system we are currently playing, and boy what an improvement it'd be. Strootman can actually pass a football for starters.

That's Rene Meulensteen on Strootman:

Could the answer be a Dutchman at Roma? “Kevin Strootman is like Michael Carrick with a left foot. Robin said he was developing well when he was working with the national team.”

I guess he is a younger version of Carrick with better understanding of Van Gaal's philosophy/systems.

I'm sorry, I still disagree. He's much more physical and box to box than Carrick. Carrick's passing is better but only just. Maybe it's wrong to say better, it's different to Carricks in the same way Carricks passing is different to say Vidals.

I'd wait another season before buying him tbh. Not only has he come back from a very serious injury and yet to return to form, he's only had one season in Italy. I doubt his fee would rise much more if he were to replicate his form of last season but signing him of the back of one season is risky business including the injury.

I know he was good for PSV and was playing for Holland but it's hard to establish whether he's the real deal from that, normally them type of players you take a punt on it and hope it pays off but £30m+ is not taking a punt on someone, you need to know what your getting and that should be a top class midfielder.

Yeah, Strootman is very different to Carrick. Maybe as he grows older he will fill into a deeper role.

I see him as Carrick with a touch of Roy Keane. His box to box tendencies are better than Carrick's, he is more physical , probably level in terms of passing skills although Strootman's passing seems a bit more attack oriented.

Yeah I'd go with that. All of that actually, he could do Carrick's job but I think it'd take away from his game.
Herrera and Strootman as a 2 could be amazing.

Yep agreed. He would probably displace Fellaini. Strootman, Herrera, and Blind would be quite a midfield for the next 5 years, especially as none of them have reached their potential.

I'm still hoping for a Blind/Carrick, Herrera and Di Maria midfield three. Really think that would get the best out of Di Maria, who we need to build the team around. He is too good to not play him where he is at his best.

To be fair, if Herrera gets banned, Strootman would perfect that midfield.

Strootman is an #8. He'd always have Blind/Carrick behind him.

I haven't really followed this. Is it a real possibility or just paper talk?

I'm not sure, but there probably is a chance that he could be banned. There would appear to be a fair amount of evidence against him and as he plays for United, it is his face that is all over the papers. Some people reckon that this could be dragged on for months to over a year and the whole ordeal could have a real negative impact on him.

I don't think it is looking good though, judging from the overall tone in the Herrera allegations thread.

It is as miserable as Jamie Carragher after a Liverpool game over there.

It's been coming since LVG took over. The key this season is to ensure that we make it back into Europe. If people don't think that the club will be willing to fork out the big bucks in January to ensure that happens they are kidding themselves. Just look at Mata last year. United will be keen for this transfer Asap and so will Roma. Personally, I'm excited by the prospect of a Herrera/Strootman/Carrick central midfield. Incredibly balanced.

I'd say we're signing this guy in January and I think he'd already be a United player of not for the injury. As Carrick gets older we'd be perfectly set up with Strootman and Blind rotating in that holding midfield role.

I think a lot of the public statements from Roma's directors are just a bit of public posturing to raise the price. Roma obviously don't need him as they're near the top of their league without him, so in the end, whatever money they get from us would go a long way to building on what they have.

We should send Chicharito to Roma to sweeten the pot for them. He wants consistent first team football and is likely to get it there with the likes of Gervhinho standing in his way.

It would be plain silly to sign someone who has been out for so long and played only 60 minutes so far this season. The fee would be hefty.

We've already been burned once with Falcao.
