Radja Nainggolan.

Roma will try to take the maximum amount of money out of us irrespective on whether we go for Strootman or any other player. The Serie A is desperate for cash and any important cash injection can take the likes of Roma a long way.

Strootman is a great player but not worth buying in my opinion, because of his injury and the fact that buying him will probably mean di Maria being moved out wide.

He's a great player, but I think we've already enough competition for his position(unless Fellaini goes).
We need more cover for the deep holding role if you ask me.

We have Carrick and Blind for that role.

This is a massive exaggeration. Barcelona's hugely successful side in 2011 had a bunch of youngsters for depth. Bayern's CL winners had Gustavo and not much else in midfield. Madrid now have Khedira and Illarra. Chelsea now have Mikel and Ramires as cover. You can't 4 top class players competing for 2 positions because it is not manageable, players don't like it, managers find it harder to keep everyone happy and so on.

Fellaini and Blind aren't and never will be "top class." Carrick will be 34 next year. If people want us to get back in the Champions League again and simply compete then fair enough, let's settle for what we have. But if people want to see United back at the summit of European football then it's time to be ruthless and improve the squad immeasurably. The midfield still needs more power, strength and all round qualities either way. For all it has improved, we still don't have anybody with bite that can sit at the base of midfield, nor do we have another all rounder like Herrera.

Is that really enough though? As Kag has said we need to be ruthless with our squad, and our current squad isn't enough. DM for me is the position that's the most in need of improvment stil, another very good DM like Schneiderlin would be needed for next year.

If we have to add one midfielder i think that it's an all rounder, not a holding specialist. For two reasons, Blind and Carrick aren't great when playing a little bit higher and i think that Di Maria is going to play in the "top 3" and not in midfield, most of the time.

Which leaves us with Mata, Herrera, Fletcher, Fellaini and Anderson.

This. Unfortunately bar De Maria, De Gea and maybe Rooney, the too old/not good enough point can be levelled at every player at Old Trafford, if you're talking about overhauling City and Chelsaea, let alone Madrid, Bayern and Barcelona.

That's stretching it a bit.:lol::nervous:

Choose your favorite player in each position, but regarding LVG philosophy, he always ask a defensive one (Carrick and Blind), a dynamic one (Herrera and Strootman) and an offensive one (Fellaini and Mata).

I’ve watched him a lot with Roma last year and he was the dynamic one with De Rossi behind and Pjanic as a playmaker.

Now the question is that do we need another midfielder when we can trust Herrera-Mata-Fellaini-Blind-Carrick and co to do the job, when we need cover at RB a proper CB an probably a winger.

-----------------------------------Carrick----------------------------------------

---------------Herrera------------------------------Mata----------------------

--------------Strootman--------------------------Fellaini-----------------------

-----------------------------------Blind----------------------------------------------

There is no question, we need all of them.

The problem is that you say "and co" but there isn't any "and co"

He's barely played 10 minutes of football since but he's training and hasn't had any injuries, so he's going in a positive direction. He played 6 minutes against Torino 3 weeks ago, didn't feature in their next game, probably because they won very narrowly and couldn't afford to take any risks and then played 7 minutes against CSKA a week ago. Didn't play today against Inter but that's understandable; big game and all. He'll probably get some more minutes against Sassuolo next week.

Cheers for the info mate.

Get rid of Fletcher (won't need him once Blind is back) and Anderson in Jan and get Strootman. That will be good enough, promote Pereira and Pearson (replace Carrick in the near future) whilst keeping them developing with the U21's. Not sure if i would class Mata as a CM.

CM - Carrick, Strootman, Herrera, Blind, Fellaini, Pereira and Pearson.

Made his first start today since injury with Roma at home to Sassuolo and he came off after 54mins with Roma 2 goals down. Gonna take him a while to get back into his rythem

and how did he play?

No idea how he played, but Roma got 2 goals back after he came off and salvaged a draw.
Well that makes him a bad player. Overrated, easy league, premier league too quick for him.

Or, he told Nainggolan exactly what his team needed to do as he walked off the pitch and high fived him. Genius. So good he didn't even need to do it himself

Would rather wait until the summer to be honest. Can't be arsed having another crock on our hands, if he proves his fitness till the end of the season then we should move in.

For what? They're out of the champions league they can wait till the summer at least

Also probably a fair bit more, they'll stitch us up on the fee

What do you mean for what? £30m+ is hell of a lot of money for a club like Roma (and any Serie A side) and hell of a lot for a player who has barely played for them and only cost them £14.75m, of course they will try get as much as they can for him and play hard ball, but paying £40m+ for him January or summer would be ridiculous, if LVG wants him and if Strootman wants to move, it would probably take around £34m.
