Music Kendrick Lamar

When he's done, he'll finish the game at the top. For me he is in or NEAR the top 10. Maybe one day he can be in the top 3 or so.

So so good. 9/10 the beats absolutely slap. I enjoyed More Life but DAMN makes Drake look like some basic ho. If he drops another one on Sunday I just can't cope any more.

Another outstanding album. Not quite as good as TPAB IMO but still absolutely brilliant. DNA and HUMBLE are just class!

He's the GOAT for me.

Pretty awesome theory too, hope it's true! :D

What more do you think he has to do to get there? I can't think of any rapper with such high quality. All his albums have been all different styles and of the highest quality.

For me GZA, Nas, Rakim and Andre 3000 alone are better than him off the top of my head. Give it time though and I can see him potentially surpassing 1 or 2 of them. Maybe it is purely because I prefer their beats and whatnot that I rate them higher, I don't really know.

I should add that I don't necessarily have a mental list of the best rappers rated from 1-10 in order, more so I can think of a lot of very good hip hop artists on the same level, and more below them.

Incredible album as expected. I'm content with one, but wouldn't be surprised if Kendrick drops the proverbial mic on Sunday also. He's so far above anyone else atm it's not even fair.

I don't know whether Kendrick is an all time great or not but the likes of Andre, Nas etc. have been in the game much longer and have had time for their music to be digested and analysed. Kendrick hasn't had that but who knows in a decade we may look back and rank K.dot in the same tier as the greats.

I haven't listened to the new album btw.

I agree with you, I often do it myself where I look more fondly towards the older rappers and I am more critical of the newer rappers purely because of how great music was in the 90s. I think for sure he will be remembered as one of the best ever eventually.

He is the best in the game right now. There are a few who I feel have the talent to catch up to him.

There seems to be quite a big damage control regarding the possible Sunday album, Sounwave, the other guy who was quoted here both backtracking, at the same time one of TDE managers confirmed somewhere on Instagram that it's dropping, there's a lot of different shit going on, either it's a mass trolling or they couldn't keep it under wraps as good as they wished and now do their utmost to play shit down.

I mean, why care so much to do all type of clarifying?

[TDE] reached out to me, and asked me if I could come meet up with Kendrick. So we sat down and we figured it out. I came to the studio and recorded a lot of stuff, they took what they wanted, placed it where they needed to place it. I think they’ve got some more stuff—there are some more things—coming out later, but for right now, that’s what happened.

Brilliant album. Definitely better than TPAB, possibly on par with Section80 but don't think it'll displace GKMC for me.

So Kendrick is appearing at Coachella tomorrow (can be streamed from YouTube) - if the rumours are true about there being a second album, might he unveil the songs there or has this been a massive WUM (I don't think it is).

The songs on DAMN get better with each listen. Another album tomorrow would be incredible.

5 reviews so far but it sits on a 98 on Metacritic. 9.5 user score. GKMC ended at 91 and TPAB 96. I think it'll drop to something like 93~.

Like.

Feels less dense, important, essential and zeitgeisty than TPAB, which some people will probably see as a good thing.

Loving the album, gets better with each listen.

DNA and Humble are absolute bangers. If he drops another album tomorrow I might have a heart attack.

Some people were coming up with a theory that he is going to drop another album called NATION, so the whole project put together reads DAMNATION. That would be sick but yeah one the first few listens DNA and Humble stand out, there were a couple of obvious radio baits with Loyalty and the U2 track but even the intro is super powerful.

FEAR is so dope, my favourite. Not many people talking about it though

My favourite on the album. Been trying to work out what the beat sounds like as I swear I've heard it before or something similar, has a throwback mashup Dre style sound in there IMO.

So I was taking a way the other day...

Hmm. The critical acclaim the album is getting confuses me. After Section 80 I have been disappointed with every Kendrick album. People calling him the greatest of all time despite not having a large plethora of quotables is insane.

I enjoy his music in small doses, I remember being amped up after hearing him on that track with Game years ago (the city?) but I guess I just don't understand his direction with the albums. He wouldn't be in my top 20 of all time.

You know I used to think similarly. But then I was listened to GKMC again one day and when I heard Sing About Me again I just couldn't stop listening to it and I was hooked.

No second album :(

YAH has really grown on me, can't stop listening to it. It's stuck in my head.

I feel this way about Eminem tbf.

Don't start with Damn as a first album you'd listen to. I'd say start as deep as Overly Dedicated, then Section 80, GKMC and then TPAB, followed by Untitled Unmastered. Only then can you see the progress he's made and how he adapts to different arrangements. I agree about the GOAT part too.

Oh, and when listening to GKMC/TPAB, you have to listen to the whole album, no picking and choosing there when it comes to order or other shit. From the first to the last.
Listened to all of them the now apart from the Damn. My favorite probably is Untitled Unmastered (can't get enough of untitled 06).

All been pretty good, not sure how I would rate them, as the first listen is not where you appreciate an album.

Will listen to Damn later today though.
