Music Kendrick Lamar

Had a bit of a genius session yesterday reading the lyrics and the meaning of them. I aim to know most of the words to DNA soon.

I love the beat of Feel but I don't think it has anywhere the same lyrical quotability as something like Sing About Me which has a similar mellow beat.

I can't stop hearing the Loyalty tune in my head  it starts the moment i wake up to the moment i fall asleep (including right now).

I love Element and Love the most right now. DNA doesn't quite do it for me, have got quite bored of the beat after the 5th/6th play.

I've had YAH, stuck in my head for days.

Radars is buzzzzzin'.

I had no idea that was meant to be a clever theory. I mentioned the same thing on page 23 (post 897) before the album was even released. I thought it was blindingly obvious from the tracklist alone that the songs would come in contrasting pairs.

So, Kenny stirred up more rumours of another project at a CD signing. At the end of stream he said "I got some more music."

Starts at 21m

Are we about to take another L?

Seen it last night...refuse to get my hopes up again for fear of taking another L as you have mentioned. We are a greedy lot.

An amazing interview.

The best thing about listening to him is that it's more or less exactly what you expect, hence you know how good he's able to express himself through his tracks. For me the most important thing is underlining from him that he sort of takes responsibility for what he says, he gives it a deep thought and doesn't shy away from actually somewhat influencing your state of mind, telling you how to live.

Many rappers nowadays ain't got shit to say that's worthy, many 'just wanna have fun' and talk about shit, taking no responsibility for their mumble whatsoever. He does.

Also it's good to know that he puts those hidden, cryptic messages into the text and it's not us who's suffering from collective paranoia trying to find something that doesn't exist

This is true, but thankfully we're seeing more people rapping about meaningful stuff recently. It's just harder to find the good stuff nowadays, that's how I like to view it.

Zane Lowe has the blandest interviews to be honest. Could have asked him about the Israelite stuff but Rihanna is more important apparently. Didn't even ask about the Big Sean stuff either. Was like an interview with a politician where the politician has already told you what questions to ask.

Wish that interview was longer. Kenny was super cryptic and Zane tried to push him a bit, but Kenny gave nothing away. It does sound like he has some tunes he could release later on, as a mixtape or whatever.

This album just keeps growing and growing on me. I was lukewarm on it at first, but the more I listen the better it gets. I don't say this lightly, but Kendrick is on a GOAT conversation trajectory. 4 albums (5 if you count untitled) of uniformly high quality...there aren't many others who can boast that type of run. I'm not saying he's there, but I do think he's well on his way and closer than you'd think.

That is such a fantastic video. Just found out James Blake has a writing credit on ELEMENT, figures that it's my favourite off DAMN.

Not my favourite on DAMN. by any stretch but that video is cool as feck.

DAMN is miles better than TPAB. In absolutely every way.
