It's fake according to reddit.

Damn, thought it might be too good to be true. I honestly have no idea what to expect, if he carries on working with FlyLo, Thundercat et al I'll be over the moon but I could quite easily see him going in a completely different direction.

Also Joey Badass' album is out the same day which I think will have similar themes and lyrical quality, can't wait for either.

So hyped after hearing the heart p4, less than two weeks to go!

Looks like a lot of detail to go into for a fake.

Kendrick and Andre 3000 with Kanye on the production. If that isn't the greatest rap song of all time I'll be disappointed.

It happens more often than you'd expect. Supposedly the leak came from 4chan, which sort of contextualises it.

Single dropping tonight in the US apparently.

Chorus seems a bit basic but will see how it grows. I do like it but I'm not blown away, but it's always better when songs grow on you.

Video is sick.

I really like it. If the new album sounds anything like that, I'll be a lot happier than I was with TPAB.

Brilliant video, song isn't that amazing though. Though I've always preferred Kendrick songs in the context of the album, rather than liking the singles on their own. But like above, maybe it's a grower.

I'm hoping this album has a lot more bars than TPAB. I get that he likes to be experimental and push the sound a bit, but man I just really want to hear a full album of Kendrick rapping like a beast over some hard beats.

Yeah people said the same with Backseat Freestyle and i. Hoping this is just the single he puts out for the masses and the rest of the album in context suits it.

Some of Kendrick's features recently he's had some amazing bars so I'm hoping for (and expecting) the same.

Surely can't be the only one to see the satire in this track? It's a big feck you at the mumble rappers, based Kendrick.

Best music video I've seen in ages. Just wish I didn't think his flow was shite.

Still will give the album a listen when it's comes out.

I don't know if I can see what you're seeing, but I wouldn't be surprised because surely there's something more to what it initially appears to be (which is pretty shit).

It's not great in this video but do you mean in general? I think his flow is amazing, the way he can switch it up mid bar and do all different types is one of the reasons he's so good imo.

The most obvious line is the 'Watch my soul speak, you, let the meds talk', the mumble rappers always mumble about how they've taken a molly or some other shit and now they're trippin and all that shit and it's cool stuff.

Then if we look at the flow that's been mentioned above, it's pretty square, and when you know Kendrick's capabilities shown i.a. just recently on Holy Key, you just know it's intentional.

Surely he wouldn't take satire to the point of just creating a shit song to show that other similar songs are also shit though? I think there'd have to be some subtle crazy bars or something elevating it above mumble rap for the satire to work.

Fully agree with the first sentence. Second sentence is blasphemy though, unless you're strictly talking about this song?

Can't wait for the album to come out.

His flows are great, it's just the weird voices he puts on that are my main gripe with Kendrick.

Listened to this last night when a mate posted it on Facebook. I don't get it. It's just trash to me. Why people think this guy's the GOAT is beyond me.

I listened to about half a dozen of the tracks from one of his albums, because I thought maybe I'd just heard the wrong snippets or something, but I didn't like them.

The video is much better than the song. It can actually be passed as a bonus soundcloud song if it wasn't for the video.

Rule no 1: never try to extrapolate what Kendrick is doing for an album off the first songs he drops for said album. See: The Recipe, Swimming Pools and i.

The second thing is, it's not satire or ironic or anything of the things people want to project Kendrick standing for. The med's line was no different to what Kendrick rapped about weed on H.O.C. It's just a good old fashioned rap song with a hard beat.

Not a fan of this song, the video is excellent.

Me, earlier on Kendrick...

I don't rate Lamar too highly in general. Taylor Swift collabs, Drake guest spots? Cmon, man, what're you doin'!?

His tone is good, but it's bitten off of Q-Tip, and his flow never feels quite natural to me, it's too stunted and in my view, too affected.

Haha, then Kendrick Lamar drops what I think is his coolest song yet...

And everyone else hates it!

This is fecking cool, old skool beat, boom bap swagger, great quotables and actually topical - he's calling out the state of U.S hip hop, at last.

In case you didn't get what he's talking about, this song is basically a Keano dressing room speech in rap form.

Kendrick Lamar should drop more bangers like this, it suits his flow and tone.

Edit - also can hear a Grime influence on the synths and instrumental which is really fecking nice touch.

I don't hate it. I just expect so much more from him.

The beat is dreadfully simple, it's about 3 notes on a piano repeated. The fact that MikeWillMadeIt has said he's got two other beats on the album is worrying me if Humble is anything to go on. When you compare the production to people like El-P, Knxledge, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, etc... It's basic as f*ck.

Listen to something like Sing About Me and tell me the flow and beat on that is not great.

Wonderfully simple, I'd say. Reminds me of a contemporary 'Gravel Pit' a little.

Just listen to it as a song and try not to decide what he should be doing.

He's made records with more layered production, some might say at times too glossy (for their own tastes), if he wants to make a record of bangers, and they all sound as good as this, great.

It's refreshingly simple for me. Different strokes I suppose.
