Year 2002 @ OT, Man Utd vs Arsenal
Campbell makes makes a tackle against RvN but fails and gets an injury that keeps Sol out for lets say one year.
Year 2004 @ Highbury, Arsenal vs. Man Utd
With five minutes left, Campbell makes a dangerous tackle against RvN who'll never play football again. Campbell gets a suspension for 4 games.
Would everyone in here be happy after that?
I know Keanes Håland didn't have to retire because of that tackle but you all know that tackle was so bad it would very well have been the case. Does it really make a difference in this kind of planned attack do you or dou you not finish mans career so he can't make a living out of it anymore?
The point is, NO ONE should do what Keane did, no matter if you play in Premier or in Conference or just in your local side. He decided to make a tackle that could easily end one's career. As someone mentioned, it was a pre-meditated attack, not a heat of the moment thing.
And of course there is the point that professional footballers are role models for many youngsters, especially the ones as succesful as the captain of mighty Man United, Roy Keane. I am surprised if the FA doesn't react on this as it would be a clear sign that you can attack anyone on the field (except the ref) and get away with it 4 game ban.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Just because you do a stupid thing doesn't make you stupid. You are repeating yourself over and over on two threads in relation to Keane. You obviously don't like him but you are taking the comments way to bitterly. I can defend Keane about alot of things but not that tackle on Haaland. I thought it was stupid and juvenile and below the level I saw Roy. However I feel that people are slating him over his comments in his book without having the full context of the quotes. The Haaland quotes look bad but I don't see anything wrong with what else has been published. I would like to see if there are regrets following the Haaland comments in the book.
Keane has never lashed out at the team without including himself aswell as he did again in comments released. In fact the only two he seemed to defend over last season were Veron and Blanc as they were the media scapegoats. I just feel he is being hard but fair. And I have to admit I doubt that these are new revelations to anyone int the OT dressing room.
It's a quiet transfer market so the media need to blow up an incident to spice up the season. Same 'ol same 'ol.

I agree with a lot of what you say, but the incident being discussed here is the Haaland one..and, as you said, Keane was totally our of order, and has been IMO very stupid in scripting his actions..
The only other connection I've made re his other comments is that he comes across as being "on the edge" of late...a fact that could be further pushed by events which could occur due to his book..

I agree what's he done re Haaland is stupid - if he is stupid full stop I don't know, I don't know him.
I wasn't taking issue with it, I was asking you a question which you have failed to answer - was it to hard for you?

I don't know you, so I couldn't say if you're stupid or not. Judging by your persona on here, I wouldn't say you're stupid, but a repetive smart-arse.

Being sued/fined isnt a problem, but I dont think the FA will be happy about this (suspension?) and it doesnt exactly do wonders for our reputation as a club. These guys ARE role models you know.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Given Keane's reactions to the Shearer incident/Irish fall out, do you think he needs to be more fired up?

No I definitely don't think Keane needs to be more fired up. But the rest of them do and that is my point. All of this create a bit of seige mentality again. We need that. We thrive on that. Keep the controversy coming thats what I say. (As long as no-one gets killed )

Do you reckon that the "siege mentality" that appeared to serve you well no longer exists then?
Keane to lose it and do something stupid this season? What do you reckon?

Well I reckon the likes of Bex and few of the others have been believing their own hype too much. Bex was a better player when he was England's anti-Christ. But over recent years the likes of Bex, Butty, Scholesy and even Giggs have all been glorified by the English media.
Keane's point about the team last was that they weren't hungry enough and you have to say that was precisely the reason why they lost out to Liverpool home and away (again). Pool were hungrier. So yeah, the seige mentality had dimished. They were too comfortable, too popular and too spoilt. Its about time that the club felt like it had something to prove again.
And as for Keane. I don't think he will lose the head this year. I think he will be so focused on performing on the pitch that he will be awesome. Why do you think he'll flip out?

I don't think it was hunger alone that resulted in you losing to us every time...
I just get the impression that Keane is a timebomb waiting to explode at the moment...the Shearer incident in itself was not enough to make him threaten to quit IMO, which leads me to believe that he's been struggling with the pressure etc....this coupled with the Irish incident suggests that he's on the edge..
And now he's given his knockers, including other players and fans, a stick to beat him with....how is he going to react if you suffer a bad patch, bearing in mind a possible court case etc...I can see him lashing out again, leading to more trouble...
How much more will he take before he decides to jack it all in and feck off to Celtic, or just quit...

Ah thats all just wishful thinking Davo. He's on the edge all right. On the edge of greatness! In any case, I think this Haaland thing is being blown out of all proportion. These quotes from a book that Keane has spent ages getting together. I don't think the rew lines we've read so far should be taken out of context. If anything, Keano has had all summer to relax and unwind after the WC fiasco.
The exact statement on the FA's website says: "These comments have been used in newspaper serialisations of Roy Keane's forthcoming autobiography. Having read the comments we would like to see the book in its full context before making any decision. However we clearly would never expect any one individual to set out to physically hurt an opponent at any level of the game."
In other words, their going to look at it. When they do I think they'll find that Keano was just giving an example of what a silly boy he has been in the past.
He knows that this season people are going to wind him up on the pitch. If he gets sucked in then you can be sure he'll take his punishment like he always does. But I definitely don't think he'll just walk away from United.

All decent midfield battlers have a Haaland like tackle on their CV.
Gerard's just added one on Viera that wasnt a million miles off, and that in a so-called friendly.
Thankfully its still a mans game.
I'm not defending Keane, I'm simply saying that things like that happen in football. There are worse challenges like that every single week in the Manchester Amateur League.
Everytime a player brings out a book its a massive media free for all to find some juicy morsel to cling to while real issues are quiet.

I thought that he came across as being very ashamed of himself and felt that his team mates, his manager had all, justifably(in his eyes) become sick of that carry on from him.

Wrong
Who else has let a feud wind them up so much that they plan to go out and injure a player with a cowardly tackle?
