Wouldn't his Champions League experience be an indicator of that though?
How many BIG games has he, and Lyon, played in CL in recent years? It's not like he's carried the best national team in the world on his shoulders or singelhandedly won the CL trophy yet. I just think that no one would offer him what Real offered Kaká, if you think otherwise I'd say you're delusional.

Lyon has bid £18m for Porto's striker Lisandro Lopes which is on the verge of being accepted, and another one for PSG's Guillaume Hoarau, this time around £8m which was quickly refused.

This does not mean Benzema is to leave (this summer) as Lyon were anyway in need of a forward to help Benzema not feeling lonely up front.

If they'd gotten Hoarau as well I think Benzema would seem likely to leave, or even if they just got Hoarou, because I can't see them two working well up front together.

Lisandro Lopez and Benzema looks like a quality partnership though.

Don't they already have Frederic Piquionne who they just signed last season? I think if Lyon sign both of the above mentioned names it is highly likely that he will move on this Summer.. However I could be wrong too as Lyon have released Juniniho too and may want to go back to playing a 4-4-2 and thus in need of 4 strikers..

Babelfish translation of http://www.olweb.fr/fr/Accueil/100007/Article/50447/Revue-de-Presse (official OL site)

In France Football, in addition to the OM, a question: “Will Benzema, leave, will not leave? ” four clubs would be interested by the Lyonnais attacker indicates our fellow-member. Manchester United, Ferguson in dream, it ya also Real where its coast would be in rise, Barcelona less hot finally it Inter replacing Ibrahimovic. Laurent Campistron finishes his file by this sentence: “the idea would be to take date with a club for the next year and to tie up, as of now, an agreement under signature deprived for a transfer in June 2010. ”

Finally Progress, Benzema is entitled as to an article on its future and our fellow-member to specify as the OL had not received any offer of Manchester yesterday.

I've just read through the last 5 or 6 pages of this and i get the feeling a lot of people are trying to convince themsleves that we're going to sign the lad.

I'd love us to sign him, he's young and talented and probably well suited to our team. However I've seen all this hype before about players some of us have thought would be perfect for us - but we've very rarely ended up signing the player.

As much as i'd love it to happen I sadly can't see it.

Thanks for the update. I wasn't prepared to read through the whole thread so you saved me a lot of work. I'll take your word on it jgraham

No quotes, no sources.

Quality journalism as always.

In fairness, its all smoke and mirrors at the moment.

No one has a great deal to go by. But I do find it telling that the entire press is persisting with this.

Or maybe I am wishfully thinking.

What's fair about that?

If you make something up, don't try to prove it at all, and then put it out in the national press, I'd say you deserve to have the piss taken out of you.

I've heard a few journalists say that a lot of the stuff coming from an "unnamed source" or generally unsubstantiated rumours can come from very credible source, on the understanding that the journalist involved won't name anyone in their final article.

One journalist said that whenever you read something from a "friend of" any footballer then it's safe to assume the quotes are from the player himself, only off the record.

That said, they're also fond of simply making shit up, just to flog a few papers / get some more hits on their website.

It's not really made up though is it?

This Benzema link is not new.

The journo has put a story together out of the whispers and murmurings. It is by no means a brilliantly backed-up article, but its too strong to say its made up.

I'll go out on a limb and say that a situation like that is the exception, not the rule.

A mate of mine works in the area, and he says they're like dung-beetles...they just push bullshit around the place.

Totally agree.

Anyone know the Sir Alex is back at Carrington? I heard was yesterday and I've also heard Wednesday. Always reassuring to see the Master back in the operations room again, always feel like things can happen...

This is spot on. I spoke to a well respected journo who said exactly the same thing. Granted, its hard to tell which journos are lying and which ones are speaking the truth when such a style is used. But nonetheless, the fact that this Benzema thing seems to be gathering pace is telling.

A player is happy to speak off the record because there is no comeback to them. If a journo went and quoted them directly, the player would likely never give them any quotes again.

So United value him at £36m odd and Lyon will accept that? Unless both of things are true, and the bloke has a well-placed source, I'll call bullshit.

So basically - we may or may not bid for Benzema....

Lyon may or may not accept the bid we may or may not give

Benzema may or may not accept going to United, if Lyon may or may or not accept the offer we may or may not give

I think that sums up everything nicely :)

I was gonna get my cock out, but then i realised it already was.

So this thread is like dry humping - feels good but really nothing productive will/is happen(ing).

Even more pathetic than dry humping. At least dry humping involves someone of the opposite sex.

More like a balding, middle-aged used car salesman - who's just been made redundant - sitting in a squalid one bed flat, forlornly tugging at his wilting erection, while flicking through old photographs and gently weeping about missed opportunities.

Like that only lonelier and more depressing.

Benzema = Viagra.

We'll all have hard ons come the opening day!
