Music Kanye West

Read the last 2 pages of this thread and I'm baffled at some of the positive comments, I thought everyone thought he was a nutcase and hated him.. clearly not redcafe

They do, but he makes good music similar to how Suarez is a cnut but is a bloody good football player.

Genius

"You tried to play nice, everybody just took advantage / You left your fridge open, somebody just took a sandwich." — Kanye West, "Wolves"

"My momma always warned me, of people of your ilk / You took the last of my cheddar, and drank the cream off my milk." — Kanye West, "Dairy Diary"

"You don't have to be disrespectful/Just 'cos I'm exceptional/You shouldn't be rude like that/You f*cking short-arsed twat." — Kanye West, "Buy My Sneakers, Please"

"Fashion show in the reservation, I need another totum / PETA's mad 'cause I made a jacket outta scrotum." — Kanye West, "Me Kanye"

Anyway, having made my way through an evidently crap copy with some songs left out, I think it's solid. Don't know where I'd class it in his entire catalog, but I do prefer this one to Yeezus. Closer to what I actually like in rap.

Although, as some might have guessed, I'm not a huge fan of his new stuff. Where do you all (who like his newer stuff) rank it?

This album was much better then Yeezus, I really disliked that album apart from 3-4 tracks. That gave me little expectation coming into this album but i've been impressed with it. If I were to rank the albums in order of personal preference:

1) College Dropout (Classic)
2) Graduation
3) Late Registration
4) MBDTF
5) The Life of Pablo
6) Watch The Throne
7) 808's
9) Yeezus

I read today that he claimed to be millions in debt and keeps tweeting Mark Zuckerberg to invest in his ideas.

Has he finally gone completely batshit?

I'm fairly certain he does have some sort of mental disability, but also mixed with a lot of drugs and anti-depressants. The debt is surely from him entering the fashion world, he said something in an interview ages ago about how he was a millionaire entering a billionaire's world, so probably some debt there.

He needs someone around him to just tell him no to his stupid ideas, a bit like that ridiculous video game, but then Kanye is the sort of guy who hears no and sees it as a personal insult and a challenge to overcome.

He also made the claim, again on Twitter, that he is $53m in debt, and called on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to “invest $1bn into Kanye West ideas … after realizing he is the greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time”.

He continued with a bizarre series of Tweets through Sunday night and Monday morning: “Mark Zuckerberg I know it’s your bday but can you please call me by 2mrw … You love hip hop, you love my art… I am your favorite artist but you watch me barely breathe and still play my album in your house … World, please tweet, FaceTime, Facebook, instagram, whatever you gotta do to get Mark to support me … I’m this generation’s Disney … I want to bring dope shit to the world … I don’t have enough resources to create what I really can.”

He insisted that “one of the coolest things” Zuckerberg could do would be “to help me in my hour of need”.

He then widened his appeal to other tech billionaires.

said: “All you dudes in San Fran play rap music in your homes but never help the real artists.” He added that they were more interested in opening schools in Africa. “like you really helped the country”, than – by implication – giving money to the one of the world’s most high-profile celebrities. “All you guys had meetings with me and no one lifted a finger to help,” he concluded.

 What a fecking buffoon this guy is.

"Chicago rapper Rhymefest is a longtime friend and collaborator of Kanye West, responsible for helping to pen a number of his best-known songs, including “Jesus Walks” and “New Slaves”. Rhymefest was also involved in the creation of Kanye’s latest album, The Life of Pablo, but removed himself from the project last month.

As he explained to fans on Twitter yesterday, “My brother needs help, in the form of counseling. Spiritual and mental. He should step away from the public and yes men and heal.” He wrote in a subsequent tweet, Kanye’s “mind and spirit [aren’t] right,” adding, “I love my brother. I pray for his health not our entertainment.”"

"Coming through like my class, from the lump in my ass / Philosophy, a creative wonder, my abcess makes the fart go DONDA" — Kanye West, "Anal Oprah"

Having read some of the tweets, I can see Rhymefest's point.

Surely there's a y missing from that.

Jesus, Kanye, WTF is wrong with philanthropy like ^that^?

I'm (perhaps generously) assuming that Kanye is appealing for financial help in order to create things beyond fashion, watches, trainers etc etc. In other words, things which would genuinely improve life for people; am I correct in this? Please tell me if I am (or not).

I think he's chatting shit because he's a self obsessed narcissistic attention seeking prick who should just feck off.

He said some awful remarks about Taylor Swift recently, saying she should sleep with him because he made her famous, iirc.

Yea, it'd be way beyond fashion, because he'd try to rename fashion 'Kanye Klothes' which is, obviously, more important than hospitals in Africa.

Tbh, I can't really comment on how good/not good his music is. I just hate the man I view through the eyes of the media. He just seems to be a grade A Bell-end imo

I used to hate him. Then I realised I can enjoy the music without liking the guy behind it. Worked out just fine.

There's a long, tedious thread waiting to be written about whether it's fair to conflate high-achieving, famous people (Kanye, Giggs etc etc) with their personal lives, and 'judge' them on the basis of those personal lives or perceived personality-faults. I'm too lazy to write it though.

If zuckerberg gives all of his money to Kanye within the year we will have highly advanced kimbots fecking us relentlessly, thats his actual goal.

I'd love to see what he would actually spend that money on.

You just know it would be something completely mental.

Ive listened a couple of times, and although a enjoyed the first track, which in itself is very Frank Ocean, the rest of this album is chaotic and many tracks sound like demo's of ideas. As for his ability to rap, it is poor at its very best. I feel Mr West is spreading himself to thin, and needs to focus on one thing at a time. I do think the hype is now almost teenage girl type bullshit, and although I loved the fantasy album, his body of work does not compare to Dre's or especially, the RZA's, who I was far more creative and influential in hip hop production.

As usual Pitchfork are falling over themselves to proclaim its greatness. I do like the site but they are insanely over the top when it comes to certain artists. Radiohead get a bit of it as well.

Decided to give it a listen, five tracks in and the bits with him rapping are by far the worst.

He should never rap.

As I type there's a fecking bizarre skit/interlude in the middle of the track (feedback).

Suarez is another example. Lots of glorified musicians tend to be real life cnuts too. Since I don't pay him or endorse his views, I guess I can enjoy their products quite well. Or at least appreciate it.
