Koulibaly was wrong footed as he had to take a chance on Salah cutting in. He owned Salah in a few foot races though, so definitely faster. Didn't Young also beat Salah in a foot race last year? Great acceleration, but only good top speed.

I'm not talking about just running speed. He also lost Mane on a Liverpool counter attack where Mane missed his chance at the end, not because he wasnt fast enough but because he didnt track him

And yes I saw 1 time where had a run against Salah and kept up with him

At least three times beating him, but yes. He looks great physically, but not that impressed with his composure, passing or technique. We don't ned yet another defender that relies on physicality. I think Alderweireld is our best bet.

I’m not sure if you noticed but Koulibaly played the last 10 minutes as a CF, I don’t think he was meant to defend considering every ball forward was directed to him.

Thank you!

Oh god,Jose is now dreaming of a front trio of Fellaini-Lukaku-Koulibaly with McTomminay and Matic behind.

Anyone who has watched him regularly over the last few years will tell you how good he is. Quality player.

Aside from the goal (which I wouldn’t call a howler) I thought he was imperious. Can’t see how anyone couldn’t be impressed.

In saying that due to his age I wouldn’t be a fan of paying £100,000,000 for the guy. Seems very reliant on his pace which won’t last for ever. I’d much rather we go for one of the younger CBs around. I’m firmly on the De Ligt bandwagon but can’t see him joining us.

There's no CB in EPL as good as him but the guy is still not good enough for Man United according to some of you. Incredible.
 There was a guy on the same pitch tonight who was clearly better and who's team shouldn't have conceded about 6 goals.

Despite the Salah goal, Koulibally just owned him easily, outpaced him, perfected tackle, take balls out from him easily. the Goalkeeper should save that goal.

What the same guy that should've been sent off after 10 minutes?

The one who kept yet another clean sheet and the opponent created one chance all game yep. Meanwhile the great Koulibaly cost his team a goal and Napoli have a mediocre defensive record in Serie A. Let's all pretend he's amazing because we got linked in a newspaper though.

I agree he is quality, the real question is would Ed pay the 100m it would take to get him

Dont know if Ed would be willing to fork out that much money. As Ed being the genius he is in football matters , would be concerned about potential resale value or if he would be a big enough name for Ed to satisfy how much many shirts he would potentially sell.

We will all get to see how good he really is if he joins us. I really hope we get him while Mourinho is still here. Guess he wouldn't be able to outperform Smalling.

Funny comment. Several PL CBs performed better than this against Liverpool

If you can't see how this guy consistently dominates his area in football games then go watch something else.

I'd swap Varane for him in a heartbeat.

Yes please.

He plays like what we hoped Bailly would become. Plus, he seems like a leader, something our defence sorely needs.

Inter and Napoli both out.

Just curious for the Serie A watchers:

1) who would be better for us out of Koulibaly and Skriniar?
2) who would be easier to attain? Would there even be a chance in January?

Koulibaly is better.

Not a real chance unless we offered silly money for either. Koulibaly would be VvD money.

Inter and Napoli may be out but they're certainly more likely to be in the CL again next season.
Whereas ,minor some odd miracle,we wont.

Who needs Koulibaly when we have Rojo and Jones?
During the transfer window(s) Jones and Rojo will be fit and 'in-form' and get injured a day after the transfer window closes.

Koulibaly is good, relies on pace and physicality to bail him out,but his positioning seems suspect (I'm judging from today's game alone).
He is more of a Vida( no disrespect) than a Rio. I would prefer Toby to him, given that he's cheaper, knows the league and more experienced.

Rio made errors too. Koulibaly was excellent otherwise and for the goal Ospina has to be saving that.
Yep, excellent apart from ultimately costing his team a place in the CL.

Never really paid any attention to him, but based on tonights game I really hope you don’t get him.

Koulibaly was immense tonight basically two positions at once - LCB and LB. mario ruiz was a joke in the defence . Now I understood why they called him "the wall" tbh . Naples created 2 gilt edged chances actually and both should've been converted.

I think his passing was good tonight

It was a bit before that I think, he was right there and just didnt track him in a 3 vs 3 counter. Mane missed anyway

This post doesn't speak well about you tbh.

I'm not the only one who'll be thinking that though. It shows you need to know more about football. Try to watch more games.
I couldn't care less what an armchair Utd supporter thinks, I'm sorry. When you go to a game at Old Trafford, I'll take you seriously, maybe even meet for a beer, you can tell me how Koulibaly is the best defender ever.

The only quality CB which is attainable. Of course we wont sign him though. Cant see Woody signing off on a 80-90 mil CB.

Ed would still probably happily pay 100m for Varane

Could only see Woody spending that type of money on someone like Varane as he has the superstar profile and would sell lots of shirts. Although I sincerely hope this is not the case.

I think we should spend whatever it takes, on whoever we need to get us back where we should be. Challenging for the top honours.
