Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

These international breaks seem to get longer & longer. Still, once Hendo () & the lads have bravely seen off Malta & Slovenia, one hopes that things can get back to normal.

Penalty-pool are already whingeing about the appointed ref favouring the away side. At Anfield,  .

He does live in altricham for god's sake.

I do understand why Liverpool fans would complain, especially when Friend was taken off the Leicester game this weekend, but personally I don't think it really matters where the ref was born.

I agree actually. Someone posted before that it's probably better for Liverpool as he's likely to be more lightly to be harder on utd.

If he makes a genuine mistake either way though he's going to get torn a new one.

His job will be a lot easier now that slippy and hopefully Rooney are not on the pitch to referee for him. That said, I would rather they picked a referee from the South, Taylor will bottle a big decision if it goes in United's favour as he won't want to be called biased.

Klopp on the christmas period:

“We play two games in 48 hours, there will be injuries and then some Dutch guy (on Twitter) will say things.”

Jurgen Klopp says Manchester United's physical, long-ball game has given Liverpool a taste of what is to come when they play West Brom this weekend.

From the Daily Gossip thread as a quote from the Daily Telegraph. Pretentious gobshite.

Can't shake the feeling we'll struggle tomorrow. West Brom will no doubt target set pieces as a weakness and it's Pullis so I'm expecting a tough game.

@SwansonsTache Did Klopp actually say that? I watched his pre West Brom press conference and didn't hear anything about United's tactical approach. He was asked about Mourinho's post match comments and said he didn't care about them but not much else.

Jürgen Klopp says Manchester United’s physical, long-ball game has given Liverpool a taste of what is to come when they play West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

The Liverpool coach identified similarities between Jose Mourinho’s strategy at Anfield on Monday and what he anticipates from Tony Pulis’s side this weekend, with packed defences and rampant conservatism becoming a familiar problem for the Merseyside club.

Just when I thought I couldn't dislike the Ritalin infused toad more.

It's a fair point to make - West Brom are going to play in a similar way to United did on Monday.

Not really. The joke was over the next post which said Liverpool played more long balls during that game

Considering we had more possession and played nearly twice as many passes as you, its not surprising that we played 10 more longer passes.

According to the same source quoted earlier our total passes was 627 with 11% of those classed as long passes - your total passes was 342 with 17% of those going long.

Use the heatmaps ffs, they will show a lot more activity in our half or penalty area if we were nailed against the wall and defending deep with six players like you claim.

The match was decided in midfield, and you all have sand in your vaginas because Brick Top couldn't find a way for your Pound Shop knockoff Dortmund to break us down, something his vintage Dortmund would have done with quality and pressing.

He is not wrong. Jose took a swipe at them, and he made a cheeky remark in return when he got a chance. Nothing wrong with it.

Liverpool on an average play 10 more long balls than ManUtd, not just in Liverpool vs ManUtd match.

I don't agree with Whoscored.com stats though and the way they use the term long ball but Liverpool fans used that to mock Van Gaal's team.

No it's not. West Brom Brom aren't going to pin Pool in their own half and press them on that territory of the field.

It's funny how people conveniently forgot the first half ever happened but instead focus on the second half where we were happy to let them have the ball because they weren't threatening us at all.

Just go on and scream "they park the bus" instead.

The same Pound Shop knockoff Dortmund who have had the most difficult start of anyone in the top 6/7 yet remain two points off the pace and three above United who appear to shop in Harrods for their shiny new things. It's also the same Pound Shop knockoff Dortmund that beat the real Dortmund only a few months ago.

With such a poor set of players, Klopp deserves high praise, indeed.

That's true. United will be the best proponent of this type of approach. When they do it they do it excellently. Hull tried the same thing and so will West Brom but won't have the same level if control of the game. However, the general principles are very similar in terms of the intent.

No one is claiming you aren't on your best run of form for decades, which is exactly why we approached the game as we did, as much to stifle you as to play ourselves. What bothers me is this fictional reality that opposition supporters, scousers and pundits try to peddle with us being nailed against the wall and defending deep \ parking the bus. That is not how we did it, and if we did we would have lost since you would have been able to move your pressure further upfield.

Besides no one fills a council house with stuff from Harrods. That is mostly for villas and mansions.

i don't know how accurate those stats are - I used them in this instance because that was what @Classical Mechanic used to mention the 10 longer passes stat.

I would be very surprised to find out from an accurate source that overall we played more long balls (% wise) than Utd. Considering we play out from the back, we have a small team and rarely cross the ball unless its a set-piece.

I don't think anyone's screaming. Mourinho's ridiculously defensive in big games, particularly away from home, and just like he was on Monday. Pulis' teams press as well, though clearly not as successfully. You're going to witness a lot of performances like that in the future, you should make your peace with it now.

Spoilt for choice between the dole and council houses eh - classy digs indeed.

Who has said this? Best run in three years at a push.

From about 60 I've never seen a United team so intent on not losing - a back six with wingers playing full back. It wasn't 'backs-to-the-wall' stuff but it was certainly defensive. To deny this is a bit defensive. Liverpool weren't great, credit to United but it was a largely negative display. Did Karius even make a save?

No it's not. Hull properly parked the bus against you, same with Burnley.

What we did is came at you in your faces and spent the majority of the first half on YOUR side of the pitch.

You guys felt the pressure and couldn't string 2 passes together without losing the ball to one of us or just out of play.

As the game progressed you lots finally started managing some decent passing and moving out of your own half. Second half we decided to let you have the ball and dropped the high pressing game we had going in the first half which is understandable because we surely couldn't keep it up, we don't play that way.

However despite letting you guys have the ball we were still mostly in control and were hardly threatened and it seemed easier to play that way since you guys were pretty toothless going forward anyways.

A team that park the bus get put under heavy pressure and have to dish countless last takle and outstanding saves. Something that happened to Hull, Burnley and will happen to West Brom. You guys barely made 2 shots on target against us with one being a long shot from distance.

We were as comfortable as it get at Anfield, hardly threatened and in control. Teams that park the bus don't walk away from game feeling hardly threatened.

It depends what is classed as a long ball, and whether they differentiate between long balls and long passes.

Does a long ball necessarily have to be a ball over the top or can it be judged simply based on distance?

You know there's three points for a win, right?

I'd feel much more comfortable at being 2-0 up.

Good point - I don't know what criteria they use to define passes tbh but one thing they do take into consideration is "Height" of pass which they break down into a "chipped" pass or a pass on the "ground". It then gets very confusing because they list Utd making a total of 342 passes - 32 of which were chipped and 349 on the ground!

Conclusion: Whoscored.com are not great at mathematics, which is bit of a drawback when it comes to statistical accuracy. Maybe their abacus was broken on Monday.

You know Arsenal also had 35% possession at Anfield and against City, did they park the bus?

Average position clearly tells the story of where the game was played, for obvious reasons it's ignored.

I did anyone actually read beyond the headline?

He was specifically asked if the united game was good preparation for pulis. He said yes in the sense they they are both physically stronger teams and we defended well against united on this count and also that it will help if we play good football, same as it would have helped if we did against united.

Then he goes on to say he is not really interested in talking about the game after its over.

Nothing story concocted out of a leading question

Can't remember the Anfield game you're referring to - but that City one where we barely had the ball was glorious, I loved it. Couldn't care less if that was considered parking the bus.

This is spot on. United forced Liverpool back into their own half not just for most of the first half but a bit of the second half too. The game changed a little as it closed but it's wilfully stupid to focus on the small closing 15/20 mins especially after United were forced into an unplanned unchange.

Still seems to be some sand in vaginas amongst the resident scousers at how comfortable we had it, and Klopp doesn't seem to be over it either (though he may have just been walking into a journalist trap for a headline).

Only time Wenger used common sense in last 10 years when playing stronger team away from home.
