Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Course it was. Half the teams that year they played had their best players isolating. Literally the most compromised title win of all time, I think even most Scousers would agree with that.
They had practically already won the league before the covid break as well as running City very close the previous season.

Pep's a bit mental, he apparently moved Cancelo on because he was annoyed about not starting as often as he wanted to, and Pep has this mental philosophy of 'no unhappy faces' especially if you're not picked. It seems controlling for the sake of controlling, people should be able to react as they want to as long as their professional.

Someone else mentioned that Klopps approach is to protect everyone and be their mate so maybe he's just too soft and hope people will buy in because they like him?

It would possibly explain why his teams seem to follow the same cycle?

It’s strange really as he’s clearly a top manager but whatever it is appears to always catch up with his teams around the same period.

I don’t know enough about his stints in Germany to know if this was levelled at him there?

Didn't Klopp face something similar 2 years ago (terrible results, performances, and downed tools) and then turned it around to us having our hearts in our mouths until Real and Gundogan saved us?

My guess is that if he stays, Liverpool will put up a title challenge next year. The problem for him is that they need to start performing at least adequately for the remainder of this season to keep him in the job, and that doesn't look like happening.

Was watching soccer Saturday (I was bored) and heard Jeff Steling tell Merson that Klopp has won 6 major trophies. The only ones I could think of was the 2 you have mentioned and the 2 cups last season. Can anyone help with the other two .?

If we count Community Shield, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, he has 7 actually

Before the COVID break? It was a season of COVID breaks. You didn’t know who you would play one game tk the next based on who was isolating. Absolute joke of a season.

I actually thought post-WC he'd get them going and I share your thoughts. I don't think Klopp is done yet, but he will certainly have more competition other than City next year if Arse push on, the Fulham Globetrotters get their team going, and (please footballing Gods) Ten Hag continues to improve.

It was a joke of a season. But its reasonable to assume that they would've won the title even if it wasn't a joke of a season. They were in a upward trajectory and had gathered a title winning number of points the last season as well. Also they won it by around 20 points, its not like they won it by a couple of points which can be attributed to luck.

Liverpool were worthy league winners, throughly deserved it and would have won it with or without the Covid break. But my god it was the perfect way for them to win it after 30 years. No excitement, no drama, nothing overly memorable, no fans, a total non event of a title race and as little fanfare as we could possibly have wished for after all that time. You can put an asterisk by it if you want, but the reality is funny enough anyway.

As much as I hate the dippers, it would be churlish to attempt to dismiss the title they won in lockdown. They still won it and, had we won it, I would have laughed my arse off at oppos attempting to diminish the achievement.

They won it behind closed doors. That title will always have an astrix next to it. There were still more than enough games left where the wheels could have fallen off if there were fans in the stadiums. Like how people dismiss Ole's record away run, Liverpool's title should be viewed in the same light.

If anything I think Liverpool finish with even more points if no Covid. They were on it, it was finally their moment, it all fell their way. It’s a bit dare I say it RAWK like people wanting to pretend Covid helped them massively. Just enjoy the fact no one was there to witness or truly enjoy it.

Who actually dismisses Solskjear's record?

That's about the best of it. We were spared the packed house title party (not that I would have seen it). The record books will state they won it. They'll be no asterisks or anything.

Spot on. When footage of Utd wining the PL is shown, it’s great to see Utd lifting the trophy in a packed stadium, parading the trophy to the fans and spraying bottles of champaign. I dont even think Liverpool fans can remember when they actually lifted the PL trophy.

Tons of posters on here dismiss all of his positive records, for example he only finished 2nd because our rivals had excuses for poor seasons. It was bloody ludicrous. In the same way I would not dream of dismissing any of Klopp’s records.

They had one amazing season and a couple of other strong seasons. They won two of the proper big trophies - one league and one UCL and came close to a few others. Credit where it’s due but when all the ifs, buts and maybes have faded away, the trophy haul is not that amazing and I don’t think it’s enough to prop him up indefinitely.

Agreed.

That season was a bit of a freak with injuries particularly at CB.

This season is a team imploding.

The only one the title because they had a legitimate 3 month break in the middle to recover. There is 100% an Asterisks next to that league title.

Only in your head, they won it fair and square because they were better that season than anyone else, everyone else had the same "break"

We had 26 wins and a draw from 28 games when football stopped. 6 points (or 4 and a City loss as it turned out) away from being champions. We’d already done the hard work before covid and had the league won.

If anything, the 2020/21 season should have the asterisk. No fans, players/managers missing due to Covid, games being postponed and moved about. Even last season had more disruption overall than the last 10 games of the 19/20 one.

Yep 3 month break, when football restarted everything was behind closed doors, 5 subs vs the 3 before lockdown, water breaks every half. The rules that season were completed under made it practically a different sport.

A team that were famed for flagging in a big way in the second half of the season get a three month break in the middle and go on to win it…

5 subs allowed after the restart, water breaks, no crowds. Never a legit title.

To be fair they were stating to crumble a bit before the break. They were still going to win it but it wasn’t all sunshine and roses

City will get stripped of most of there’s at some point, or no one will actually care in 20 years that they won some stuff anyway, all their titles have an asterisk

That’s true. Also I remember reading about how many anti vax players that the EPL had yet there’s when was the last player who missed a game due to covid?
Are clubs allowed to cover it up now?

Not suggesting that that but it's a bit pathetic to discredit it all because it's the Scousers

Rumour has it… klopps been pulled over by the police for speeding. He’ll do anything for 3 points at the minute.

They were 25 points ahead of City with 9 games to play (27 available points) and 10 games for City (30 points). It was legit title with no bs * next to it.

Liverpool ju

if they lost every game after the restart they’d still have enough points to win the league at the end

Not remotely the same. The season two years ago was because of a historic injury crisis they had. This year is genuine lack of quality/players that are completely finished still playing big roles in their XI.

They were miles ahead before the break. I'm all for laughing at the scousers but their title was deserved, they were the best team that season by some distance. You'd have to be Paul Merson levels of dim to believe covid had any affect on the outcome of the title

Doesn't matter. As far as history goes, it was covid year and they never would have won it otherwise :p (at least the history in the wiki article where United fans can edit)

You're mixing 2 seasons up. That terrible season, featuring 6 home defeats in a row was in the behind closed doors season.

Our hoolies got the home game against them called off with a ground invasion and by the time we played them again there was a packed schedule and we lost. Giving them even more momentum to come back and come to 4 still.

The saved by Real and City season was last year.

But the poor season was with about 20 sets of centre backs and no fans. This season they've had a few injuries but not as critical in defence as Van dijk for one was in poor form anyway.
