Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

I might be wrong, but this season doesn't look too good for Liverpool. They can easily finish outside the top 4 the way I see it. Not impressive watching them play at all and half the squad needs a serious revamp. I don't place any blame on Klopp though. He has done a spectacular job with what he has been given but similar to his other clubs - not enough money has been invested when he has needed it.

I wonder if it would have been better for him (and us) to come to United, even with all the Disneyland shit. We would have offered him an equal opportunity to go toe to toe with Pep instead of having to compete with a fraction of Pep's resources.

Read a theory that every team presses now with 5 subs available so his pressing start isn’t as special anymore. Apparently they’ve been outrun in every game they’ve played this season

Nah, I really don't think so. On another day today they could have still won quite comfortably. As long as Klopp is there can't see them finishing lower than 4th. When he packs his bags however they'll drop like flies.

In fairness they’ve dominated possession every game this season so they would be expected to run less.

I think the slow start is mostly a hangover from having played every game possible last season and little or no rotation. Mane going is also a big loss.

Maybe just maybe, it's more than that but I'm not convinced, they area still a good side and have a lot of know how/experience.

Here is hoping they are finished however and Klopp is going through a Dortmund like ending.

They almost finished out of 4th 2 seasons ago and it took to Rodgers bottling it to get in. Right now Spurs, Arsenal, City look far better and I wouldn't put Chelsea and us that far behind. Sure, Klopp is the best manager in the world currently, I've always said it, but he is no magician.

Interesting run of fixtures coming up between now and October 16th:

- Napoli (a) CL
- Wolves (h)
- Ajax (h) CL
- Chelsea (a)
- Brighton (h)
- Rangers (h) CL
- Arsenal (a)
- Rangers (a) CL
- City (h)

The CL ones should be ok but those PL ones look tough. Brighton would batter us as things are.

Thiago should be fit this week which might help. The fullbacks have been poor so far though. Big issue because that’s where most of our creativity comes from.

If football should teach you anything, it's don't speak too soon. We're in early September.
But it's looking promising that they've had such an average start.

Na I am pretty sure they won’t win anything Atleast this year….

I mean PL or CL

I just still find it hilarious that the only league title that they’ve won in 498 years was lifted in a empty stadium with fireworks and glitter bullshit to absolutely no fans whatsoever, almost makes it worth them winning it in a perverse kinda way..
Yep, truly hilarious stuff.
Could only happen to Liverpool, karma.

That could point to them being found out tactically. Let them have the ball and hit them when they make a mistake instead of attacking them and being punished by their pace.

One thing Ferguson/guardiola/mourinho we’re/are all great at when trying to build long term success, was consistently refreshing/rebuilding the team from a position of strength, not weakness. Klopp or FSG (hard to tell which) seems to be content just replacing players they lose, which isn’t the same thing at all. Take city for example, lost Jesus and went out and got Haaland AND Alvarez.

Think Liverpool and Klopp are in danger of letting there good work over the last few years go down the pan for a whilst, and the train could have already left the station when they didn’t strengthen more this summer.

Yeah funny how Messi and Pep lasted for the whole 26 years Ferguson was in charge for. :boring:

The first 3-4 years we played in the C.L - we never really stood a chance due to the foreigner rule. We quite simply didn't have enough english players since irish and scottish players were considered foreigners. As I recall we used Gary Walsh in goal against Barcelona :)

That rule impacted every team, I don't think it was restricted to just English clubs, do you can say it weakened the opposition as well.

Thoughts on Keita being left out the CL squad? Some speculation he’s had a falling out with Klopp.

For a team starved of midfielders, that seems like a weird move

Klopp’s put Bajcetic in over him. Keita’s injury is either really long or there’s something gone wrong with his relationship with Klopp behind the scenes.

We would have more issues though because Hughes/Giggs and so on all counted as foreigners and we simply couldnt deal with that in comparison to the other European sides.

You realise the size of violin being played among opposition fans with this repeated shaggy dog story?

You were the biggest club with lots of Sky/flotation money from back in the 90s. What the feck was Ferguson doing for those years before 1999? And where are the CL trophies from 2000 to when Pep and Messi appeared? Why the feck did Liverpool win it in that time? Where was Ferguson?

Bob Paisley won three within 9 years. No excuses made for him. None needed.

what dirt do you have on the moderators to be allowed to keep posting here? All you is say Liverpool are the best and laugh at man utd. I do not want to infringe upon forum rules, so I will say that you clearly have no problems with your personality and are confident in your life decision to post on here. It’s not weird at all.

feck each and every one of your posts.

Todays result must’ve been rough for you

I fear for your sanity in march when we are 20 points clear at the top of the league.

Yes, but traditionally Scottish, NI and Irish players played a big role in English football. They were considered foreigners under the rules back then

Exactly this. And let's not forget what caused English clubs to get banned in Europe.

Fergie should have won one more CL in 2001 and should have played more defensively in the 2009 finals, but realistically one more CL was the best case outcome.

They had a fallout. Keita wanted out in the summer, no? I think here is more to it.

Soon as the ban ended and we adapted we reached 4 CL finals in 12 odd years with quite a few semi finals in between. He really was unlucky that Messi rise times with the prime of this period

It impacted english teams a lot more - because there were so many Scottish, Irish, Northern Irish and Welsh players. These players were an integral part of the english clubs in the late 80s and early 90s - and in those days, clubs didn't have 20 good players in their squads.
United had Blackmore, Irwin, Giggs, McClair, Keane, Ferguson and Hughes - in addition to Schmeichel, Kanchelskis and Cantona. Other leagues had a limit of foreign players just like the english league had - but Scots, Irish and Welsh players weren't considered foreign in England. As I recall - English clubs were allowed 2 foreigns or 3 Welsh/Irish/Scottish players - or 3 + 2 - so basically United had to leave out 5 of their 10 regular players in every game in the C.L the first couple of years.

So when United lost 4-0 to Barcelona - we had no Schmeichel, no McClair, no Cantona, no Blackmore, no Ferguson - and we basically just had kids on the bench

Plenty of banana skins in there alright. The worry for you guys is that the fixtures haven't been that rough for the first 6 games bar United away.

With this compact season, if you're on a patchy run you don't really get time to set it straight on the training pitch. It's a massive test for Klopp. Feels like this season could either be the end of a cycle, and how he manages it will be interesting.

Everyone is talking about the midfield, but Salah doesn't look on it so far either. With Mane gone, if Salah drops off by 5/10 goals, it's a huge ask for Diaz and Nunez to replace that.

For me, Salah has been playing too wide this season. I think it’s tactical but it’s nullified his goal scoring threat. Interestingly Salah is top for creating goal scoring chances this season but very low down in terms of shots on goal himself.

Meanwhile Mane has 5 in 7 for Bayern.

Selling him for £30m and going for Nunez at £85m looks an absolute howler of a move to be honest.

Mane is worth double that fee and Nunez probably half of his.

That’s partly because the Bundesliga is a cakewalk for Bayern. In the first half of last season Mane only had 7 goals and an assist before he went to AFCON I think?

But yeah Mane is clearly a superior player to Nunez. No doubting that.

I think Mane wanted to move on. Not sure what’s gone on in the background but he’s had his nose put out of place.

Wijnaldum alluded to something similar when he left?

Yeah there was a stat where he's created more than double the chanes from open player over the next PL player (Kulusevski) before this weekends matches. Salah's doubled his own "scoring chances created from open play" stats from previous seasons, but his own shots at own goal stats have also halved. So he's creating but not getting into scoring positions - probably because he's being instructed to keep more width? Unless Diaz and Nunez can combine to pick up the slack in goals (I doubt it), Salah needs to move closer to the goals or it'll cost you. Especially as you don't really have goalscoring mids either.
