Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

I think in the cold light of day and upon reflection Klopp will know the decisions were correct. Him creating a "the world is against us" mentality deflects away from a woeful 2nd half performance. It also deflects away from the fact that 75m quid after VVD his defence is still a shambles. Lovren's swipe at the ball was sunday leaguesque. The keepers refusal to catch the cross that lead to Wanyama's goal. All these gets swept under the carpet while they wallow in self pity. They really should have down something keeper wise in Jan, even a loan for an experienced one until the summer. There was twice in that game when their keeper came out to collect and the defenders still played the ball. He clearly called it but they don't trust him and that doesn't inspire any kind of confidence.

Karius does nothing wrong for the Wanyama goal, it's a good punch. 9/10 Wanyama smashes that into row Z. The second pen was a blindside clearance that Lamela buys (and was offside anyway).

Otherwise, the defence did well yesterday. Spurs controlled 60%+ possession but actually created not one proper chance from open play in the second half.

But narrative is narrative.

Can't believe he hasn't been charged yet. Surely the FA cannot charge other managers now? How will that work?
If I were a manager and they wanted to charge me for similar behaviour to Klopp's I would tell them to feck off and come back when he's been dealt with.

For what it's worth, I don't agree with punishing managers for these types of interviews which they do immediately after a game when emotions are running high.
However, the FA has this rule and if they claim it applies to all managers, then that's what should happen. Not one rule for the managers and another for Klopp.

An absolute disgrace if they decide not to charge Klopp. If they don't it absolutely proves that there are different standards for different managers. Jose has received touchline bans for a lot less.

Also Wenger the other day. I don't even think he went as far as Klopp did.

Definite bias going on. As I said, if they try that with another manager, that manager needs to point this out to them.
Rules should be for everyone.

How was the second pen offside? And how is being booted in the back of the leg buying a penalty?

And Klopp's comments are, as usual, ridiculous and warranting punishment from the FA.

Not sure I can see the offside or how Lamela dives. I see Lovren getting a very good hold of Lamela, losing him, VVD letting Lamela get goal side of him and Lamela being in position for a shot on goal if VVD doesn't kick him in the back of the leg.

Is it just me or do you think that result yesterday was the best for us in terms of finishing 2nd? All I need now is Chelsea to actually lose to Watford. That would be fantastic for us with City drawing too! Ever the optimist.

Lamela is offside when the ball is headed from the throw in. It was even shown on Sky just now.

And there is no attempt made to play the ball by Lamela. He jumps into VVD, looking for contact. I can see why it's been given, but he was looking for it.

"9/10 Wanyama smashes that into row Z." Karius catches that weak cross and there is no goal, simple as that.

Looking at the video above, it doesn't look like it but I can at least acknowledge that isn't the best view for ascertaining whether it is offside or not.

Again, looking at the video above, I struggle to see how anyone can not see that is a penalty? Or sees what Lamela is doing as 'jumping into VVD'. He's being pulled by Lovren first of all, then gets ahead of VVD and would be in possession of the ball if he wasn't kicked.

Because Liverpool Football club, because...

and don't try and reason with a Liverpool fan

Spurs created two of the 4 best chances in the game in open play actually(first one was incorrectly flagged for offside, karius made a great save on Son), and the game itself had very few chances on either side. That was just the type of game it was. I agree liverpool's defensive unit didn't do badly at all, though you're still far too easy to attack in your own half in my opinion

Didn't see any major issues with the defence yesterday. I actually thought we defended the box really well. The problem lay further up the field, where the midfield struggled to string more than 2 passes together once Henderson (much maligned himself) went off.

Rodgers did better (and very nearly won the league) and he was binned off.
Rodgers is criminally underrated for what he did at Liverpool. They played some astonishing football.

Yes, his team didn't pay attention to defending, but he didn't make Gerrard fall on his ass.

You did a good job of defending the box, but a fairly poor job at preventing spurs from getting the ball into the box in dangerous situations. Basically, rather than good collective defending, limiting dangerous situations, it was more Karius and the defenders clearing dangerous situations. Not that surprising you ended up conceding 2 goals

(and yes, the problem, once again, is the midfield)

I don’t remember Vidic and Torres ever being involved in an incident like that.
Apologies... it was Sturridge.

I remember us being up in arms about with the "no contact" argument but I recall Liverpool fans and the media usual suspects (Graham Poll, etc.) saying it was a penalty as he obstructs his path without winning the ball...

That was a dive by Sturridge. Pretty sure that was the general consensus at the time as well. Sturridge later got fouled by Carrick in that game but didn’t get it. This incident probably influenced that a bit.

There were many at the time saying it was the right decision as it is still a foul for a defender to obstruct your path and force a change of direction without winning the ball. So yes it was clear simulation by Sturridge but many agreed also a foul...

If Lamela is offside it's millimeters. Hardly clear and not surprising it wasn't called.

The smash in the back of the knee by van Dijk though was a great spot by the lino.

Thanks. Despite your heavy handed style of argument, including unfortunate references to disability, your points did help me get my head around the legalities of the case. You have persuaded me that the goal should have stood. But looking at the rules around offside brings home what a bloody complicated rule it is.
Are you one from the politically correct brigade?

The modern game is a joke. I reckon the penalties/offside decisions in the Liverpool v Spurs and the penalty tonight for Watford v Chelsea were scandalous. I don't give a monkeys if there was any physical contact, in every case the players made a complete meal out of it. Clearly looking for the slightest of contacts and going down like sacks of shite. It happens in nearly every game. It makes me sick to the stomach. As to the "offside" decision in the Liverpool match. He was offside when the ball was played forward towards him, doesn't make a blind bit of difference if an opposing player makes contact after the ball was played. Offside is offside...end of. I guess I am one of the older posters on here, I'm sixty. All I can say is that if any of our generation acted like that when we played then we would have been laughed off the pitch. "THE BEAUTIFUL GAME" my arse! Honestly, watching the majority of games today is truly nausea inducing. Players rolling around in mock agony, diving etc etc. Tackling has almost been driven out of the game. Teams happy to pass the ball aimlessly amongst themselves while the opposition are just as happy to let them do it. A total bore fest. The modern game stinks, rant over.

Both penalties. It's not attackers duty to avoid contact, Goal keepers should know better.

It's an offside so marginal that it's completely unreasonable to expect a linesman to spot it.

If you're complaining about that, you're complaining just to complain.

Also, I'm pretty sure Lovren is holding him. I'm pretty sure holding in the box is a penalty, even if the player being held is offside. So if you really want to get technical about it, a pen should have been called long before van Dijk booted Lamela.

Of course, calling a pen for that would have been dumb, just like your (and others) whinging about Lamela being an inch offside.

It's just about justifying their opinion no matter what.

I don't see any offside either, unless it's by millimetres for a couple of frames, is it when he's held sightly?

In that vid, this one just looks like an ordinary fairly stonewall pen to which there ought to be no controversy attached - Lamela moves between VVD & the ball without any fuss & as he's entitled to do, and just gets booted from behind - doesn't even appear to ham it up particularly in that one.

The real point of complaint here is that LFC are having a run of decisions being given against them at Anfield and they don't like it.

I would concede that they're being a bit unlucky with the run of the ball (Kane's missed one) & how these things are getting spotted but maybe if their defenders weren't (appearing to,) kick people (VVD) or push people (Lovren vs Everton) or could execute a routine clearance competently (Lovren again, for the missed pen) it wouldn't happen quite so much as it is, atm.

Jurgen Norbert Klopp, how about you actually coach the defence how to defend rather than blame everything and everyone else you scruffy, overrated, one dimensional, gurning cnut.

First penalty was very doubtful, should't have been given, Kane missed it any way. Second one was a cert, Kane scored it, so basically the ref made a mistake, but in the end it didn't actually affect the result. Klopp needs to focus more on the deficiencies in his team's defending rather than looking to apportion blame elsewhere.

feck me, that is the offside? That is what they're complaining about now? And whilst Lovren is bear hugging Lamela as well?

Yeah. After video came out showing that Lamela was actually properly booted by van Dijk, they had to find another reason to be angry about the penalty.

Seeing as Lamela's arm can't be offside then if his knee is offside then it's so marginal that the fact that the line isn't drawn straight probably means he is onside.

That "offside" falls under the benefit of doubt to the attacker unwritten rule.

It's centimetres and there is a Liverpool player directly blocking the linesman's line of sight.
