Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

He's done well to get them play as more than sum of their parts in the first half of the season but they'll finish fifth or sixth because their squad just isn't that good. There's an argument that Klopp takes some of the blame for not bringing in right players but there are so many factors to consider in transfers that it's hard to pinpoint on one person usually.

It is a little bit strange to see modern football fans mocking Klopp, always with the same argumentation, overrated and all that.
It's not strange at all. Here, on a United forum, anytime anyone associated with Liverpool FC says or does something a bit daft they're bound to be mocked. No need to take it so seriously.
@Dumbstar How can you have been a pain in Utd fans backsides for a decade and a half when Liverpool have not won anything?

He got ripped into by a fellow scouser. He's not level-headed, realistic or good.
:D

Where's all the big Klopp fans gone?

We're licking our wounds mate. Our bad run has finally seen us tumble out of the top 4 - probably will be 6th when we kick off against Spurs. Although we will no doubt win or get a spirited draw against them and then lose to Leicester. I'm sensing a pattern.

Spurs next? That'll be a tough 'un.

For whatever reason they don't lose to top 6 teams. Have played 8 matches this season and have only lost once which was to Chelsea during their win streak. Now granted they don't really win either as they are 2W-5D-1L against the top 6 this season. So I can see this being 2-2, hope to be wrong but it's not like Spurs has been exactly dominating teams lately. Could have easily drew against Boro yesterday, drew at Sunderland, needed Son and Dele to save them in stoppage time in the FA Cup against Wycombe, and had to fight back to get a draw against City.

Yeah it seems that way alright. Their record against the bigger sides is pretty good. It seems to be against the lesser sides that 'park the bus' when they really struggle.

If Pochettino is smart he'll bring the bus and have confidence that his attack has enough quality to get a goal or two playing on the counter against that shite defense.

yeah but so far thats the games we've done really well in - where teams will generally come at us more. If teams sit in we struggle to break them down. Its a great fixture for everyone else challenging for top 4 - you can't lose. I expect you're hoping for a draw.

I personally hope Spurs win 3-0. Liverpool are done and dusted then. It will mean we can focus on just overtaking one side. Arsenal or City.

Have a feeling Spurs might do them at Anfield. It's probably the unlikeliest result, but it honestly wouldn't shock me.

Liverpool have a fantastic record against the top 6, but they rode their luck in the last few. A team who can match them physically could be a nightmare. Even though this is even more of a must not lose- concentration won't come to them as naturally as it did for the Chelsea game because of the unique rivalry. A Draw would be a fantastic result even.

Yeah I actually fancy you's to beat them but a draw would be the best result.

What if we draw 1-1 with Watford? Even if we beat them, Liverpool could easily rule out a 2-point league in the following 13 games. It's still extremely competitive.

We can run 'what if?' scenarios all day and night.

Let's just see what unfolds. :)

If you read this forum in January you would swear a 2 or 3 point gap was impossible to close even then.
It's a Godsend that we have those games towards the end of the season, it allows us to go on a run where we should gain points and allows things like Chelsea already being champions and are just seeing out the season or Spurs having already qualified for the CL and we've seen how they play when they have nothing left to aim for.
We can approach it like CL games, Arsenal could be in the position that they have to win which would force them to come onto us etc.
It's a huge advantage.

It's going to a dogfight! With Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal & Liverpool all fighting for the 4th spot. After looking at the squad in the summer, my realistic expectation for the club was challenge for Top 4 with a decent Cup run; However, finishing #5 or #6 was looking more 'on par'. I hate to say that I was right (cause I don't want to), but it may have been the right prediction.

We have deficiencies in the squad. Anyone who thinks otherwise is blind. And Klopp is a manager with limitations. Any manager at the helm can only motivate and get so much out of you. Ultimately it's the players on the pitch that are running and executing. If we make Top 4 this year, it will be a test for FSG to see how ambitious they are going forward. So far they have spent - but mostly on sub-par average players.
Do you get the impression they are trying to moneyball a team together? I know the Fenway group was responsible for the baseball version but it would be a mistake to try and do it in the premier league.

We had this discussion on here before. Too many variables and too dynamic a game.

FSG wasn't responsible for it at all in baseball. In fact they've consistently spent a ton of money since taking ownership of the Red Sox as one of the top-3 spender every year. They did try to hire the GM that introduced "moneyball" to the mainstream, but were rebuffed by him. Every team in baseball uses "moneyball" strategies now which was basically just valuating players using different metrics and exploited inefficiencies in the market for how baseball players were evaluated.

IF the CL places are not yet settled, its actually a huge advantage to us that those games are at the end of the season. As well as helping your cause you could end up inadvertently helping us to a CL spot by taking points off Spurs, Arsenal and City (if its rearranged for near the end of the season - any word on that?).

Of course that is providing we don't blow it against the smaller teams as per usual!

I thought he was pretty likeable when he was at Dortmund. But he's become very unlikable since he's been at Liverpool. Behaves like a lunatic.

Liverpool ( the city ) is on some kind of weird leyline . Trust me Iam from here and deffo feel different heading down the M62.

I think we are being a bit hasty to write them off & wrong to dismiss their pre-Xmas performances except that they were a bit lucky to get Arsenal on the 1st day of the season & Chelsea before Conte had rendered Chelsea virtually unbeatable. I would still have Burnley down as a freak loss - they had enough play to win 998 games out of a 1000 that day. I think the idea that they were always going to turn is shite is flawed. Argue I'm wrong if you like - cos there is some evidence to say that knocking about just now, :D.

The performance levels and/or expected performance levels of the front 6 (inclusive of the back-up players) have fallen off a cliff, compared with the early season. The defending might have improved slightly in the numbers but of course the mistakes are more expensive now the scoring rate has turned to shite.

Firmino - burgled, drunk driving, playing like a drain
Coutinho - injured
Studge - rumbled that he won't sprint past you anymore, loss of confidence, bit of a diva
Origi - flattered to deceive briefly
Lallana - really good form has plateau-ed
Can - has always been crap imo, now proving it
Hendo - injury, carrying injury
Wijnadum - water carrier anyway
Mane - went to AFCON, no replacement

The back lot have turned out much like you'd expect, Milner has done well. Clyne is decent enough. Matip is the best the middle & GK can offer at the best of times. The back up is TAA - not ready. Moreno - not trusted, Lucas - not competent & Gomez, world star after 5 games, just back from career threatening injury & Klavan the journeyman. And Sakho - not wanted.

Right, I've argued myself out of it, they could be back but maybe they won't. There's too much needing turning around, too many need to find good form again. But if Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Mane do refresh they will be winning games again. They're not all crap by any means.

It's at WHL

This. To be fair not one of them claimed they'll win the title or that Mane will make them a force again or something. Not that I've seen it.

Only divvies say otherwise . Good post.

Iam as perplexed as anyone as to what has happened . I don't really give a shit to be honest .. but .. still it's crackers as to what's happened . It's not fatigue or training methods I think it's we lost a few key players at the same time ( more or less ) and this effected us.

As most of us have known all along we don' t have the squad and that old fragile mental strength has surfaced once again.

To be honest I really don't give a shit . Of course I want us to do well but I stopped giving my energy to things I can't control a long time ago.

Saying that...

Apologies if already posted but has anyone read this:

Yeah, on reflection it does appear that the Liverpool hierarchy got a little giddy and thought it would all be sunshine and rainbows.

It's not to say that they were wrong to do so, if he stays for the length of his current, then the club will have obviously achieved success/silverware.

The biggest issue Klopp is going to face going forward is with that farcical transfer committee that the club insist on using.

So much so, you signed up to a United forum to discuss it. You definitely give a shit, just like we all do.

There's no daring to dream this year, we are looking at classic Liverpool boom bust cycle here.
I love it, the boom is so brief too. Like a bird leaping from a mountain face, brimming with pleasure as soft winds tousle it's feathers. Then it remembers it's an ostrich.
