Julien Escude latest

I don't know whether to believe the fees reported. It is fecking offensive! After all the tapping, coming out and talking to the press and all, I wouldn't want to be Escude!

According to the Guardian, PK has indicated that we will increase our offer before Saturday. Be patient. ;)

I still think we'll get him much like we did with Rio, but we'll have to pay up more. Why oh why did we wait for two bloody weeks after the last round of talks? we just backed ourselves more into the corner.

I was rushing just now .... didn't manage to follow up on it ... Yes I think 2.5mil is too little ... should be around the same as Mickie's 4mil previously ... Escude is now the same as Mickie previously ... U21 fullback for France ... The only difference is Mickie was probably much more high-profile then with Inter ... So I would rate Escude 3.5mil here just to be a bit reservative ... 2.5mil is too crazy ! just 'cos we sold Yorkie for that ??

With the amount of money already splashed on Rio, the math is easy to figure out.

Qualify for CL, have $ to buy reinforcements.
Fail to qualify for CL, no $ to buy reinforcements.

Frankly, I was surprised that the sounds the clubs were making was that a deal would be done before the Zala match, cause it would make more sense to wait and see the outcome.

Be prepared for things to move quickly if we qualify and to die a quick death if we don't.

WHAT THE feck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes sense to me!
If we lose tonight we don't need him and we can't afford him!

Escude will still arrive. It's just a matter of time. United will up the offer before the weekend. Escude has apparently told Rennes again last night that he'll never play for them again now that United are interested. He seems the sort of player Fergie would go for - one who desperately wants to come to Old Trafford. Expect a deal before the weekend. And perhaps two more ;)

We're toying with them for a lower a price, it's easy... Keep offering insulting offers like this, then come in with say £3-3.5m, and they'll take it... I think ;)

That's about right. Fully expect United to tie up a deal soon. Not likely they would go public about their interest in a player without being confident he will arrive.

I guess we will offer them £4m tommorow now that we are through to the CL.

I don't understand that fuss about Escudé. First, I don't like his attitude towards his club. Secondly, he's not necessarily the saviour. He plays for Rennes, and Rennes is not a top club. He doesn't play for the French team. You don't even know if he has the level for United. I must say that in France his brother is more known than him.

That's very unfair Elfie. First, he's been tapped up and would love to join us, what player wouldn't. Rennes is not a top club, so what? Plenty of good players come from not so good clubs, like West Ham for Rio. He does play for the French U21's and was the star of that team in the U21 tournament. He may not be known so well, because he's still U21.

So you have a problem with Rio's attitude do you? And Yorke's too, when he first signed? If United make it clear they want you, you do whatever you can to engineer the move. And don't compare these scenarios to Hasselbaink when he was at Leeds because he was after nothing more than money.

Yes, and if he doesn't do well, people here will be keen to slagg him off. He should prove what he's able of in a good French club like Lyon before joining a club like United. We have seen Rio in the English team.Ferguson has talked to him, Bergeroo was not even aware of that. Now Reveillère does the same. No wonder why Rennes is at the bottom of the league. Rennes may be a small club, but deserves some respect.

Bergeroo wants to keep him, but money will probably have the last word (Rennes is owned by one of the wealthiest men in France).

forlan hasn't been slagged off... generally, you find that the fans are more patient towards young potentially good players

I'd prefer us to sign him while he's still cheap, its called good scouting and good business.

high comedy or french farce...I don't know?
maybe it's just the papers...but here we are yet again embarking upon another season with a depleted defence and scrambling around to meet last minute deadlines to cover for that fact.
Could someone please answer me this?...why did we not sign Escude before or during the World Cup?...before he tripped up over his dog?
The Ferdinand saga is irrelevant...we still needed to sign a full-back no matter what.
It's as if we have to lurch from the sublime to the ridiculous with our transfer dealings.

Of course I've seen him play. But it's much more difficult to be a defender in England than in France.

I just think that we have a good formation system, and that the players should give to the French clubs what their clubs have given to them. They could wait a few years before joining the big clubs. Like Zidane for example.

It's sad for Bergeroo. Ferguson should have talked to him before talking to Escudé.

Are you joking ? He has been criticized for not having scored. Just ask Redpie...and some others. I remember having written to someone "he has just played two games and you're already slagging him off".

Yes, and if Real offered 4 millions a month to Van Nistleroy, and if he refused to train, etc...would you be happy about that situation ?

It wasn't a consensus at all.

Redpie wasn't the only one.

May be the opinions have changed after the goal Forlan has scored during the WC.

sigh!

'most' ..or the 'majority' of fans have backed him even before the WC... you always get a minority...but they don't talk for all.

do u have to always argue??

;)

Ah, your points actually about wanting the French league to keep hold of its good players and sell them later for more money. Hmmm I don't care to be honest, I want us to buy him for as little as possible. This kind of signing is the sort we always complain about us not doing enough of.

No, not at all, it's not for more money. That's not my point. It's just a question of respect. I remember an interview of a certain French player I won't name who said "If I have an offer, I will discuss it with my manager and my president. And if they don't want me to go I'll stay, because I have a contract and I respect contracts".

I must say that my position is shared by many people in France, I've heard Michel Hidalgo (the manager of the French team during the Platini years) who was extremely severe with Escudé.

Why do you think I'm arguing ?

Escudé may be talented, but I don't like his attitude, that's all.

If I was a Rennes fan, I'd hate his attitude. I'm not though. As a United fan its exactly what I want to hear.

I have this reputation here because I'm such a big fan of Fab and it always hurts me to read all those threads about him. But people who know me won't say that, because I'm quite reserved and even shy in real life, even if I'm never afraid to voice my opinion.

As for Escudé, I understand that people here don't care about Rennes, but me I care (Rennes is in my region, Brittany). The situation of French club who can keep their young players is sad.

TBH i care not about Rennes.. i just want United to get the best youngsters around.. altho i understand your point.

Welcome to the world of football run by money men. I haven't seen a promising player stay in the Uruguayan league until he is 20 for about 10 years now (actually, last was Recoba who just made it to ~21). In Brazil they just about get to 21 but they "export" a massive 900 players a year (from ~200 in 1996). The same process started in Argentina about 2 years ago.

It's sad but I don't see any solution.

The worst part is not necessarily the small clubs and local leagues being utter shite but a lot of very promising young talent going downhill. I remember Zalayeta was brilliant at 17, he went to Juve and spent the last 4 years in the reserves, now he reminds me of the Donkey.

Yes I am shy. Actually I laugh when I read some things people think about me on this forum. I'm not hysterical at all, not crazy at all.
