Julien Escude latest

We'll see. I hope so, but I'm sceptical about the names mentioned so far as they are too expensive if you take any truth out of Kenyon's statement.

I just don't think Crespo is a realistic target with or without the Stam money they owe us. They paid 35m for him, and probably wont want to part with him for anything less than 25-30. I don't think we're going to buy any one for 15-20m this year (but I hope I'm wrong) ;)

I reckon we can get him alot cheaper, perhaps £20million.

With any deal, it doesnt mean we need to pay up front too. They are talkin about it I'm sure.

As for Ronaldo, he wants out of Inter and he wants to go to Real. However after their reluctance he has been thinking very hard about joining an English side - and theres only one side in England big enough for Ronaldo. I think this is one is going to end one of 3 ways, joins Real, joins us or stays put. Its had to say which one is more likely since they all seem quite unlikely!

I reckon a loan deal is very much a possibility considering how much he has damaged his Inter career, how Real have said they dont want him and how we've got Nike onboard, heard rumour after rumour and left the no.9 free. And then we have Ronaldo doing all he can to leave Inter.

Watch this space I reckon.

I'd prefer us going after Ronaldinhio. He's younger, would be cheaper, more creative, and would compliment RVN more than Crespo. AND PSG might have to sell him. ;)

he would be perfect but its not gonna happen

About Crespo & some of the other top-notch strikers being mentioned, over n above their price-tags, United has to also consider their wage demands, & someone in the Crespo category wud expect at least 50-60 thousand pounds p/w.

Will the Board go for it?

From the sounds coming from the management, if ever they were to go for a 4th striker, he would be more in the mould & wage bracket of Forlan, i.e. relatively unknown, relatively cheap, relatively more decent wage demands, & prepared to accept the Squad rotation system! ;)

Can we ever see the likes of Crespo willing to sit out matches?

Yeah but Lazio are desperate. Just how close are they to doing a Fiorentina?!?

They apparently want a package worth 29m. They owe us 12m, that leaves 17 to haggle over. The rumour is that we can pay the remainer (maybe dropping to as little as 10m) over 3 years.

This could be the media and their dodgy 2+2 maths again, but there's a lot of smoke for there to be no fire (shit! I think I'm turning into Cliche Man )

I doubt they'd do that though. They can sell Crespo to an Italian or Spanish side for more.

I'm beginning to think this article from 4thegame is bs. There are no links about this story on Red News, Red Issue, Planetfootball, Teamtalk etc.

BTW, I actually applied to join some 4-5 months ago but didn't realise OO is not 00 & kept typing in the wrong password! ( FP would know I'm telling the truth since I'm a computer idiot! )

Take a guess ;)

No I don't, I think they yanked it off when I checked back again.

Hey another SFT mod here! You guys like to do things together huh? ;)

Is very odd how no other source has picked up on that story. Must have made it up, and there were no quotes.

I know :)

For a fleeting moment, I thought this was gonna degenerate into another me versus you "slug-fest" ;)

Only time will answer how credible this is. Personally it sounds logical to me. United want the player, the player wants to go... It will probably happen.

Sounds like a winning tactic. Find good players who want to play for us and get them to publicly ask for a transfer, thereby putting pressure on their club to sell.

It sounds like a deal that will happen. Rennes have not been able to sell their other FB, so they don't have that excuse anymore.
The fact that the player has said he wants to go is key. For Rennes I would think it is better to first secure a replacement, before letting him go- hence the stalling story.

On the subject of strikers, its almost unthinkable of having only three, should RVN go down to injury, we would not be in good shape.

If Escude is our next signing no new Strikers will be coming in, if what Kenyon said was remotely true. All I can assume is that a Striker will promoted from the Reserves, not sure who though. I will be delighted if we can get Escude for under ₤5m. It will be great to finally have decent cover for the LB position.

I still think it's a wait 'til we've definitely qualified for the group stages type thing.

Maybe even the targetted striker has said he wants to wait and see, although, I think it's the PLC saying no dough 'til the Hungarians are beaten.

BTW: Anyone know why SAF seems to like having French players (Barthez, Blanc, Silvestre, Escude...) in his back-line ?

We've already loaned Davis and Webber, I doubt we plan to promote. It's obvious we're going to try and sign someone and if we get a good result in Hungary, I expect the process will be sped up.

But who ? After spending the 5m or so on Escude, we won't have enough for a decent Striker, esp. once we get the traditional United treatment on any potential deal. The only names i can think of are PDC, Chiesa and Crespo, and even those are highly unlikely.

Like was said, we'll probably have to wait until we have qualified for the CL proper, to see what kind of cash will be made available- just a precaution, in case the unimaginable, unspeakable should happen. CL has big financial implications obviously.

After spending the 5m or so on Escude, we won't have enough for a decent Striker

How do you know that?

We've dropped 4 significant salaries (Irwin, Johnsen, Rai & Wallwork) and so far only Rio has signed for a big salary. We paid the sheep £15m for Rio and if Escude comes for £4.5m that's less than £20m spent this summer.

Now, I doubt the PLC thought at the end of last season that they'd only spend that much revamping the squad. The Nike check, which I assume was in the region of £23m, went in the bank on August 1st and then there's £2m from Disco's sale.

By my reckoning, if Escude comes, the PLC still has £5.5m left over. Add that to the £10m +/- that Lazio owe us and basically, another £5m and Crespo could be ours!

Of course, this is all conjecture on my part... ;)

Well, it is indeed exclusive.

As for the 4th striker, strongly believe there won't be any before Christmas.

If Fergie really has the money, he could have spent on the 4th striker first, which I think is more critical than LB. We still have O'Shea, Brown and Phil on the bench. That's better than having 3 stikers to choose from.

Since Escude is more likely to sign now, I guess Fergie will scout and sign a reasonably price striker later.

RedIssue

‘Final details are still to be thrashed out between United and Rennes, but it's understood the deal has been done in principal and will be completed well before the Champions League transfer deadline of August 31,’ according to the supersorraway.

But then the official site says:

‘United's reported interest in signing French under-21 star Julien Escude is said to have waned over the weekend.’

I'm not convinced. I will not be satisfied till I see Escude smiling next to Fergie on the OT turf, holding a Red shirt. But it's sounding more and more like the Rio transfer. Interest is leaked to the public, the player says he wants to leave and play for us, club want time to think and United decide to throw the bait by apparently relieving their interest. I'm confident we should get him though, if SAF pushes for him.

As been posted in a different thread, the official site has no inside clue. It is fed by the regular media, unless the club wants to release any official information, which it doesn't do before deals are done.

the guy's desperate to join, and there's no point in hanging onto to a player when his dream move comes about, imagine his attitude if they kept him.
