phew
luckily it's not too serious

with a transfer possibly not even completed until close to August 31 it's not too bad. I doubt Fergie plans to throw him right into the deep end anyway.

That's only 11 days away, and he won't pass the medical to get the insurance, not sure if we could still do the deal in such a situation.

We signed Jesper Blomqvist when he was injured. A player doesn't actually have to be fully fit for a medical, which is there to make sure there isn't any unknown injury rather than a known injury that we know can be cured in, say, 10 days.

Ruud too was injured when we tried to sign him previously. The problem ofcource wasn't that he was injured, but that the injury was much worse than people thought.

Don't you think guys that Man Utd should invest seriously in some good hospital for football players? Everyone is gettin' injured, is it a fashion or what? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Seems any defender playing, signing, & now even thinking of signing for United ends up with 'freak' accidents!

Maybe Fergie shud enquire about Hyypia & Sol?

BBC:

Man Utd's hopes of signing Rennes defender Julien Escude may be over after the player strained ligaments in his left knee while walking his dog.
He is expected to be out of action for three weeks, making a move to Old Trafford before the 31 August transfer deadline almost impossible.

Is this true or not?

The obvious speculation is that it has ruined the move, and we'll go after Sorin again. But its nothing more than presumption at the moment.

If he expects to make a full recovery within three week, why would we not bye him? This is only a sprain. If he failed any tests the reason is unlikely to be for such a minor item. This is nothing more than the BBC building up a story from very little. In any case we need a new left back and at this stage of the summer we are unlikely to get anyone else!

<a href="http://www.football365.com/All_News/Premiership_News/story_38253.shtml" target="_blank">We've got an obvious interest in the player</a>

Seems like we should wrap it up this weekend for £3.5m - £4m. They must be a little worried now about having a player who's not training with them, begging to join United, but with an injury, so it should be for less than the £5m that they would've liked.

They must have been worried that we'd pull out of the deal though.

its more to do with him refusing to train with the team

but it would be a great deal for 3.5mil

I just wish I'd heard of the bloke before we were interested.

Surely we should be going for some 30 year old 25 million player?????

Can't say I like the idea of signing well priced young talent with the potential to save us millions.

Look what a F*** up it was getting that bloody cheap OGGY striker Olly goooner solsharrer

;)

Innit!

The meeting in paris was put back to today no news yet though

The Scotsman:
Manchester United’s attempt to capture Rennes full-back Julien Escude appears to have ended in failure.

Old Trafford chief executive Peter Kenyon met his French counterpart in Paris this evening but talks broke up without agreement after three hours and no more have yet been arranged.

Unless the deal can be revived, it means manager Sir Alex Ferguson may not be able to make the reinforcements to his squad he had hoped for ahead of Saturday’s international transfer deadline.

Understand them turning us down where just taking the piss with these fees as if we'd get him for 2.5 Million

They not like us who just give players away <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

United's Escude talks end in failure
Manchester United's attempt to capture Rennes full-back Julien Escude appears to have ended in failure.

Chief executive Peter Kenyon met his French counterpart in Paris on Monday evening.

But talks broke up without agreement after three hours and no more have yet been arranged.

United were believed to have offered in the region of £2.5million two weeks ago, while Rennes were holding out for double that amount.

"There was no more money, so there is no agreement," said a Rennes spokesman.

"Maybe there will be another meeting at some point but at the moment nothing has been arranged. We will wait to see what Manchester United do now."

Fair play to Rennes. We're shite at transfer negotiations, let's face it! We overpay for Rio, and underpay for Escude.

We have an unbalanced squad - too many midfielders, not enough defenders or attackers. We lack strength in depth and have lost the ability to find gems at bargain-basement prices.

Sigh. (I'm depressed coz it's back to work tomorrow, sorry. ). :(

That's what I am saying ... we have been the victim of our own success .... The crazy payment go out everytime has shown the world how much "spare cash" we have in the pocket ... Only an alien might not know it and prepare to do decent business ... Others - why not !!? It's Man Utd ... just up the price 100% for god sake ...

I think £2.5mil is a bit cheap on our part for such a high profile player.I don't think auxerre would accept that price for cisse and mexes, would be nice though. :)

To be fair to Rennes would you accept £2.5 million for an under 21 international. It not a case of them upping the price just cause its MU.
They need to see a return on their investment, They would be selling a player who would be a first team fixture for years. They need to get a fee that gives them the cash to buy a replacement.
