A similar approach was made for Rayan Cherki and it was reported we had a Helicopter waiting for him in addition to a £10m signing on fee. Cherki decided to stay at OL.If the likes of Sir Alex, Woodward, Judge are all present to meet this kid who is probably doing his GCSEs in a few weeks, then the club must be real fecking serious about trying to secure his signature, and it’s not just a ‘You win some, you lose some’ approach like what seemingly happens when clubs try to secure players that young.
Dortmund are financially more powerful than the likes of Monaco, Ajax etc and can afford to get it wrong without the formula coming crashing down. It's baffling yes, they doing the same thing Monaco did but more successful. Kind of the way Ajax refreshes their team every year. Some owners are just happy to do this because it keeps the money ticking over and as long as they play Champs league they will be able to sustain it. But if they get this formula wrong just 1 time the whole house of cards can come falling down.
Someone on BT said hes the best English talent at his age since Rooney. We paid £25 million for Rooney, so to get him for £30-40 million would actually be a bargain, in these ridiculous inflated fees days.Depending on where you read, we could sign this kid for anything between £30m - £50m.
He's 16 years old, so many other 'wonder kids' in the past end up fizzling out with the weight of expectation. At £30m you could maybe justify a gamble but anything around £50m would be mental.
I heard when he came out of the tunnel to go onto the pitch the guard of honour that clapped him on was Giggs, Scholes, Van Nistelrooy, Keane, Robson, Rio, Schmeichel and Ronaldo.Getting Sir Alex and Cantona involved, feck me. Talk about bringing out the big guns. If that doesn't do it I don't know what would
Loan him to the Villa. if he can play there he can play anywhereI don’t get the idea that we loan him back to Birmingham. Championship football is a decent level and he’s very comfortable with that. Surely he needs to step up to continue his rapid progress and getting 10-12 starts with us next season in the cups and odd PL fixtures will be best for him. Chelsea wouldn’t dream of loaning that Gilmour lad out, nor City with Foden and if this kid is as good as they say he needs to be valued and nurtured in the same way.

The Cantona thing is nonsense, nobody is even reporting it.
Don't see what the hype is about with this kid tbh. Looks technically good, strong for his age and has size, but doesn't look like a generational talent by any means to me.
Is playing week in week out in the Championship....at 16. This doesnt happen often. Happens pretty much only a few times in a generation.Don't see what the hype is about with this kid tbh. Also, this kid is 16. If Cantona turned up he'd probably think "what is the bloke from the Paddy Power adverts doing here?".

Ed likes that. No DM though.Out: Pogba £100m, Smalling £18m, Andreas £15m, Lingard £10m
In: Bellingham £30m, Sancho £120m, Grealish £45m
Net spend: £52m
Have enough money to invest a top striker too if Ighalo doesn't work out
Mejbri is one of the top players in the world for his age. I'd say Bellingham is very much up there too. We've got a nice structure in place for youth at the moment that's for sure.

Please no Rooney comparison. The boy was a freak at 16. He took the piss out of us at OT a year before he joined
We're without doubt moving in the right direction regards targeting the best youth and Woodward deserves credit for that after Gill had left the academy in a bit of a mess.he looks like a brilliant player in the making. We are identifying the really top young players and aggressively trying to recruit them. If they chose to stay or go to Dortmund etc what can we do?We are a brilliant club for a talented young lad.
That’s odd, that Gilmour did play for Rangers. He’s been up against decent opposition prior to Chelsea
If it’s true that the club got both Sir Alex & Cantona involve to try and sign a 16 year old, then the kid must incredibly talented.

Pogba surely is on his way out. Matic can still do a job if used sparingly or rotated. Mata (much as I love him), Lingard, and Pereira need to go this summer. Garner should be in the first team already. That leaves Bruno, McTominay, Fred to be joined by Garner and Bellingham and one of the last 3 you listed. Not too crowded! Sign him up!Looks like he's got very good close control. What's his passing range like?
If we did sign this lad and Grealish then central midfield (including number 10) suddenly looks a bit crowded. If you make a power rankings you probably have Fernandes, Pogba, Grealish, Fred, McTominay, Bellingham, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Pereira, Garner, Gomes, Mejbri, Levitt.
Got to think that Levitt, Gomes and Garner will all probably look for first team minutes elsewhere soon and Lingard and Pereira will probably be shipped off in the unlikely event that all of the above comes to pass.
We need a DM, I think that's actually the most important signing we need to make alongside RW, our ceiling as a team lifts massively if we can acquire a very good one.Out: Pogba £100m, Smalling £18m, Andreas £15m, Lingard £10m
In: Bellingham £30m, Sancho £120m, Grealish £45m
Net spend: £52m

Completely agree with you. I've always preferred the same approach.I much much prefer this transfer model. Bruno has seemingly made it all click. We have a hungry team that are still a few players away from being a top side again. The best youth has to look at our club and feel like we are going places but also that they have a chance of getting substantial minutes with us. If he does come I’d fancy him to play early cup games and be used as a sub and eased into the squad. season after next who knows what his ceiling really is. It’s obvious that clubs who recruit smart are looking at him and his fee isn’t putting people off. That should speak volumes. It makes me happy to see us strongly in the running for these top young and hopefully really hungry players.I love watching young players develop here. It’s my favourite part of being a united fan.

Tomorrow never comes if you don't prepare for tomorrow.Tomorrow never comes.
Tomorrow never comes.
If we could recruit as well as Dortmund and actually were able to hold onto our top players then we will be a real force again. Mark my words. The amount of talent that club has turned over is pretty great. If they’d been able to keep teams together for longer they’d have done a lot better. They’ve been a lot more shrewd in the market than we have post Fergie finally it looks like we are catching up. Their signings have a lot more upside than say someone like Alexis Sanchez? It’s lower risk and higher reward. We have a few leaders in the squad now too so signing young players isn’t as much of an issue as it may once have been. Fergie always championed giving young players a chance as they have the power to surprise you. Who was a better signing. RVP or young ronaldo or Rooney? I think buying for the future is the future.
Or you could be like Arsenal were in Wenger’s second half and never actually arrive. All your good players ‘will be good players in a couple of years’.
It’s an important balance to be struck. The first thing to remember is that half of these players will never amount to much anyway. You could bet big on a tomorrow that never arrives. Then when that happens, the team itself never arrives, and then the one or two players who do actually become top players want to leave to go and play at a team that can win things, because they are surrounded by players who are not up to it, and the club’s solution is to being in a few more 18 year olds and ask them to wait another few years again.
I’m all for bringing in talented young players, but first and foremost, a club should try to be competitive in the coming season ideally.
