and then there's Mejbri in the youth teams who is apparently doing very well.
Seen very little of the younger teams this season but Mejbri and Hoogewerf have been outstanding. Add Bellingham and they could be very destructive in the next few seasons.

It's a no brainer, best club in the country, really good chance of a game.

His parents spotted leaving Carrington. Woodward left an hour later.

fecking hell! What does Woody look like? Nightmarish

I agree that it’s a very hefty price but we paid £25 million for Rooney in 2004, that seemed like a ridiculous amount at the time and the rest is history. Not saying this boy has even half the potential of Rooney (I’ve not actually seen him play) but surely worth the gamble if the ‘generational talent’ chat is anything to go by.

Let's not forget that Rooney was scoring goals and played in the PL for over a year before he joined us.

However, their body-frame maturity is comparable, at 16-17 he looks well built and ready to handle the physicality of the PL

Having SAF come in is obviously great, but also, the kid is 16. He was 9 the last time Sir Alex managed a game. It's not like he will have been exposed to a lot to SAF as a cultural influence or icon. Not in the same way as a player in his mid twenties or thirties. Still, I bet his Dad fecking loved it.

That's like saying I wouldn't be overawed if Bobby Charlton was there when I was on a tour. I was around to see any of his greatness, but you'd still be amazed at meeting such a presence

If we get him we will have 2 of the top midfield prospects in the country, if not the top 2 then very close. If our scouting is as on point as it has been recently then this lad turns out to be a baller. He’s not a punt at 35 million. He’s as close to a sure thing as possible for a 16 year old.

Mejbri is one of the top players in the world for his age. I'd say Bellingham is very much up there too. We've got a nice structure in place for youth at the moment that's for sure.

Please no Rooney comparison. The boy was a freak at 16. He took the piss out of us at OT a year before he joined

I'm a bit petty in the way that I want players who are desperate to play for us. So, if he says no to THAT (imagine bringing SAF to convince a 16 year old, crazy stuff), I actually have no problems with "missing out" on him. Don't blame players going to a development-centred club instead, but yeah, not going to blame the club in that case either.

Nice to see the positivity

The doom merchants not long ago felt our youth system was rubbish

Getting Sir Alex and Cantona involved, feck me. Talk about bringing out the big guns. If that doesn't do it I don't know what would
Matt Busby via a seance. It'll be like the scene at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Exactly. We’ve done our bit, can’t do much more, clearly pulled out the big guns for him.

Kids in our school know who Pele was. If you know your history, you know the GOATs

I don’t get the idea that we loan him back to Birmingham. Championship football is a decent level and he’s very comfortable with that. Surely he needs to step up to continue his rapid progress and getting 10-12 starts with us next season in the cups and odd PL fixtures will be best for him. Chelsea wouldn’t dream of loaning that Gilmour lad out, nor City with Foden and if this kid is as good as they say he needs to be valued and nurtured in the same way.

Should loan him to Sheffield Utd, did wonders for Henderson.

I am really trying not to go muppet mode. I would love for us to sign him. It's such a no brainer.

edit: Oh, and we don't loan him out next season. We actually play him. The kid is ready.

That’s odd, that Gilmour did play for Rangers. He’s been up against decent opposition prior to Chelsea

Since we changed it up, it seems we've made big strides. Seems we are targeting the best young talent from abroad to add to our academy before they're picked up by the big guns. I like the patience we are showing as well. I'm happy to see we are taking our time integrating Emeran and Mejia rather than just throwing them straight into the U18's. It's a sensible approach.

In fairness, the U23s got themselves relegated and the pickings were a bit slim. Even Jose said the U23s werent good enough but the U18s and U16s were full of talent but too young. Fast forward 2 years and this current batch of U23s are all under 20 and almost in every position there could be one or two of them who could break through. The U18s and U16s also have lads we are very excited about going forward. I have followed the youth teams religiously for 4 years and am incredibly positive. It helps that Woods is on the same wavelength as Ole.

Probably asked already but can someone answer what kind of midfielder is he? Who in our team is he likely to compliment? And is the hype so big that he would feature in games almost straight away like James, or used in patches like Greenwood, or not really at all like Gomes?

You can’t possibly say no to those two!!

Who can the others bring out?

Both got huge injuries though so weve been forced to be patient

Liking this don't know if he is any good but we should be competing for the best youth players all the time.

Hes an all rounder. Has played on a variety of midfield roles. Has played left, right and centre. Has also played attacking mid and defensive mid. Even played up front for a game.

He is far from the finished article but Birmingham have used him as a midfield utilityman. His composure is his biggest strength and he has a decent pass on him. I've only watched him 3 times myself and 4 or 5 times in highlights only but it's hard to believe he is 16. If someone told me he was 20 and had been playing first team footy for 3 years I would absolutely believe you. If I was to hazard a guess at his long term future it would be deep lying playmaker probably off the left of a double pivot. But it would not surprise me if he becomes a box to box style full time. He has excelled with that style too!

Regarding the Dortmund links. People maybe forget the impact going to Dortmund would have on family life. The kid is still 16 he won’t want to go on his own nor will his parents want to leave him.

United makes much more sense and is much less of a life upheaval for the family. Money is important clearly but not everything

I think if we manage to sign him, he'll be coming straight into our first team squad as a 17 year old.

It's odd that people consider Dortmund the pinnacle for a young player these days.
They buy talent and play them, then end up selling them, rinse repeat...
Not saying thats bad for a young lads career, but they're playing in a league were beyond Bayern, they've mostly been able to have a freeish run at second.

United are up their with Dortmund when it comes to giving youth a chance, especially from our own academy, so I find it intriguing how people paint Dortmund as the pinnacle
