Juan Mata

I'll be sad to see him go, but I've been reserved to it since the Mourinho rumors started. I'd rather have Mourinho than Mata if I'm honest. Still I really like Mata and think he's more than good enough for the team. Everton is definitely below his level.

He's slow, not assertive enough & clearly doesn't fit into what Mourinho will try to do, why do people here not understand why we are selling him? He has often flattered to deceive, yes, he's a nice guy, and writes a blog but of what relevance is that to me? From a purely football perspective, it's the right decision to let him go.

Agreed.

I dunno does this make me a 'bad supporter' or whatever, but I really won't be bothered when he leaves. Clearly he's a very decent bloke, by any standard, much less a footballer's, but by and large he's been pretty underwhelming in his two and a half years here. Some good moments, pretty productive at times, but IMHO he never fully convinced (and, in fairness, some of the reasons for that were beyond his control). Obviously Mourinho doesn't fancy him, so why delay the inevitable?

I thought we all complained about lack of pace in attack last season...?

We'd be stupid to sell one of our most productive players
SAF sold RVN, and opened a new successful chapter for us. Sometimes, productivity is misleading if it hinders the team progression. Collective productivity is what we should aim for. Last few seasons, we're all for individual productivity.

Only if we replace him adequately. If we sell Mata then we have no quality back-up to the likes of Martial, Zlatan and Mikey T. Which is fine if they all perform and don't get injured. If something goes wrong though I'd sooner see Mata coming off our bench than the likes of Young, Lingard or Depay.

I don't Care who Mourinho sells unless it's Martial, Rashford or de Gea.

Mata is a good player, Everton would be a fitting club for him i think.

Edit: Add Shaw and Smalling of course.

Arguably, Mata is not that much of an impact player. I meant for him to work, we much need to tweak the system a lot. You don't want to do mid game. I'd also like that sub chance to go to Rashford. Maybe Januzaj and Pereira, too.

If Memphis stays, I do see him an impact sub. He has better movement off ball than Martial. You know the movement into goal scoring position the like like Ronaldo from the wing. I am not impressed with him as ball carrier, attack/chance creator. That would be a useful impact sub without tweaking too much mid game. He needs to impress and survive the cull first though...

Everyone keeps writing Everton off. They have just been taken over and have a large transfer kitty, coupled with the fact they've got themselves a very good manager in. The team they have isn't half bad, with Mata in their ranks and a few other sensible additions they could be a threat to anyone next season.
Its not whether Everton want him or not. With the TV money, every team is rich enough to afford the 21m pounds being quoted. It's whether Mata fances the move and I don't think he does. Everton have no chance of finishing in top 6 for next few years, and that rules out any european football he'd play. He is definitely good enough to play in CL and I feel he'd be way more valued in more "technical" leagues

I think a player as productive as Mata is almost by definition an impact player. I kinda get what you mean in that he probably wouldn't suddenly change the flow of the game but there'd always be a high possibility of him producing a decisive moment, regardless of the system he's deployed in. That's a happy knack he has even when not playing well.

He's not a player to come off the bench and do something though & he's not versatile enough, we'll sign players of the right profile, and who is to say that Depay won't improve? There's no point keeping Mata really, he won't accept sitting on the bench, and rightly so.

Im a big Mata fan but we all knew he would be sold as soon as Jose was appointed.

I think this was something we all expected would happen, when Mourinho was announced. I don't know why people are surprised, Mourinho like Pep has a certain style and he fits those players.

I am glad we have a manager who knows what players will fit in his style and which players won't. Mourinho prefer strong and athletic players which suit quick counter attacking players, Isn't that we all wanted, quick players and moaned about lack of pace, slow and tumescent style of play.

Lastly, I am disappointed like everyone regarding the price quoted, but then again, we are poor at selling players, for example Madrid will sell James or Isco at steep prices.

What he said.

Whilst Mata has scored and assisted a bit, he doesn't produce enough for the team as a whole. His build up play is too slow and his defending is non existent. I'd have no qualms about him going as there is better in the squad to come off the bench as an impact player and i'd prefer us to sell to a team where we can get one of our targets back - ie Everton (Stones) or Juve (Pogba) etc.

I like Mata a lot, he's been one of our better players when things in general have been shite and he conducts himself very well. However, it's clear Mourinho doesn't see him as a player he can use for his style.

If we get Mikey T in and flog Mata for a reasonable price I have no real concern. I'd only be concerned if there wasn't an alternative brought in.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't sell to Everton as they have always been hard on United when we tried to buy any of their players. Sell Mata out of the Premier League.

Never had a problem with Everton or their fans (probably because we both hate the dippers), but i'm just reading one of their froums and they are talking shite. "They are mugging us off getting Mata for only £20mil, We are on the decline and Mata wants to leave for a team on the up, Mata is arguably our best player and they are taking him off of us", etc.
Total laughable bollocks lol.

I'm not talking about whether Everton want him or not, I'm saying about people writing them off from mounting a challenge on the top 4. New money, manager and new players and with some of the players they already have they could threaten the top 4. West Ham were very close last season after a disappointing few previous seasons so to dismiss them out of hand is a bit hasty.

I don't think Everton have anything to mount a top 4 challenge. Certainly not this season. I think their side is terribly overrated and they have far too many weaknesses. They're changing their GK, Stones isn't that good, Jagielka is getting older and so is Baines. Coleman is decent. Barry is old now, Deulofeu and Lennon are ok, Barkley isn't as good as people make him out to be, Lukaku is terribly overrated. I think Koeman has a much harder task here than he had at Southampton, where he had lesser expectations and basically smaller side and more money to maneouver.

I love mata and i was hoping he'd be able to worth things out with mourinho. Let's not forget that most of our good players have struggled under van gaal.

?? what do you expect them to do , roll over and say OK you can have him , of course they are going to be hard , they want the most money they can get for their player.
Dont have a problem with Everton and if he wants to go good luck to him.

I don't think Jose will want a player here that he has 'history' with and that's why I believe he'll go, regardless of whether he is or isn't good enough.

I don't think Mourinho has ever admitted being wrong about something or making a mistake. Even when he sees how good players like De Bruyne and Lukaku have become he would still say he was right because they won a league without these players.

Very little chance Mourinho will give Mata a chance to prove him wrong no matter how good he plays or how hard he works in pre season.

Obviously!

I too like Mata, but I don't really object this transfer.

What a load of crap. I'm pretty sure his CL medal, World Cup medal, European Championship medal would disagree with your analysis there fella.
He contributed nothing to the World Cup win or Chelsea's champions league win. And the European championship is one Everton would be proud to win. His level.

Would like to see Juany at Juve. I think he'd do really well there.

Mata + £60m for Pogba please.

1)He took the corner that Drogba scored from in the CL final so he kind of did something.

2) How would Everton (a club football team) win the European Championship which is an international tournament. Please explain.

They're getting very giddy over on the grandoldteam forum, and fair play if they do get him becasue he'll be joy to have for them, but I'd like to see some sort of bidding war break out for him, surely we can get £30 million or so for him given how things are nowadays.

One of their ITK's saying it's imminent. That said, I've never visited that forum before, they could be about as ITK as me.

Would be better for us to drive up the price if another club comes in late.

I'm completely unfazed if he goes. Like a lot of players brought in over the last few years, I've not really grown all that attached because they're a reminder of a very disappointing period of the clubs history.

He's world class in the right system. But it's not a system that a world class team would ever employ.

Yep they seem to think it's done, it's rarely as straight forward as that though as we often find out, reckon they'll be a few more stories to come out before he leaves us, and hopefully a higher price.

Shame he isn't a bit bigger, and a lot quicker, becasue he'd have been dynamite for us if he was.

Maybe he wants to stay in England if he is to leave... But Everton?

Surely half a dozen better clubs would go for him.

Tell ya what, a team with Lukaku, Mata, Stones, Barkley and a few other shrewd signings looks good on paper. Know a few sound Everton fans who would love this.

We flew him over in a helicopter. He's going to have a bit of a shock when they tell him to catch the bus over to Merseyside.
