Juan Mata

I really like Mata. Just about the only downside I saw about bringing Jose in was the end of Mata.

Will miss him if he goes, hope he moves to Spain

I have to agree with the original poster. It's not about the quality of the player but the plan of how to use them. Mata and Fellaini summed up the Moyes era. Under Fergie there was a purpose to every signing. Even if the player ended up not being good enough you could see there was a plan for how each player would be used.

Mourinho and Guardiola's signings show the style of play each manager plans on implementing. Moyes had no plan at all. What style of play was he going for with Mata and Fellaini?

If reports were true, Moyes didn't want him. It was Woody who just said we are buying him. Also, Mata I feel could have been used very well last season had we been playing a faster game. We lacked movement and that made Mata's task harder. With Martial, Lingard, Rashford/Rooney, Depay, we had players who are pretty fast or were fast

My thoughts exactly. One of our best players in the period since we've had him. Hes been wasted at us enduring shit football. I hope he stays and jose falls in love with him but if not, then i'd like to see him back in Spain. Not at a mid table prem team. Hes better than that.

Easy with the fanfic mate, this is a family forum.

I don't recall seeing any reports like that but i seriously doubt that. We don't operate like that.

The real story is that he wasn't a target, his agent proposed him to United and Woodward asked Moyes if he was interested and Moyes said "yes".

I thought he'd left and joined The Preacher.

How about strengthening first before selling what could be one of the most creative player we currently have ?
This. I dont see the point of these 'Insert Name Here' out threads. Especially since every single one of us has a player we're not a fan of and they frequently arent the same ones. We'd have no players if we all got our way.

The Mkhi guy is almost done deal, so there is the strengthen part, right where Mata's usual position.

I think he could do worse than Everton, they have a fair bit of talent there and Koeman seems to know what he's doing.

Last time Mata played under Koeman, it didn't went well for Koeman team...

€25 million? I thought 2 English teams will deal in pounds.

There are many players in our team who should be cleared out instead of him. Very good technically, calm and cool on the ball and most importantly productive. I'd love to keep him considering he is a good player to have and our squad is thin as it is.

Still one of our better players IMO.

It's so strange going on the Everton message board and seeing their fans on twitter creaming over the possibility of signing him

It makes you realise how big United are when our unwanted players are so saught after

I'd rather take the 50m for Stones and buy Mata on the cheap which usually happens when United sell players. ;)

He's too inconsistent with through balls to play at AM and his best attribute is box-to-box driving runs. His defensive game has suffered a bit due to him playing at AM but when he first began playing it wasn't an issue at all.

Excited about this one? I'm a fan of Mata's, I think if a team's built round him as a playmaker with other players around him doing more legwork so he can back to his best. I don't think United ever tried this for long with the likes of Rooney taking precedence although United fans can feel free to correct me. For me Rooney should of been the one pushed out wide or up front to accommodate Mata.

The stumbling block will be his wages though, think he's on 8.5m a year

Mata is a quality player, nothing to do with 'how big United are' stuff.

Really don't want him sold. Think he can do well for us. Our squad is not that large to ship out players and if at all we need to trim the squad Mata shouldn't be at the top of that list.

Plus no point selling to a PL club if at all we decide to sell. Juve might need a player like him. If we are going for Pogba, we can always use Mata as part of the deal and I think he'd rather prefer Juve than Everton

£25m is good money, as much as I love Mata I'm all for selling him. That £25m could be used to buy one for the future.

If Mourinho wants Stones then we should leverage that deal with Mata, give them an ultimatum - no Stones to us, no Mata to them.

(not that I want Stones, but if Mourinho wants him)

Lukaku has been needing service from someone like Mata for a while now. To have a winger like Deulofeu and an AM like Mata behind him will be an attacking dream.

Indeed, and relates to the post above. Of course he's not going to be great at United when his best seasons have been as a pure AM and he's being played out wide in a tumescent system of football.

This is what we thought when we sold Mata to Utd. Mourinho does these things to you. Makes you believe everything is fine what he does.

Oh, it is in Euros? Tell them to feck off in every way possible. Just out of principle we should charge them the same that they charged us for Mop-Head. There are more talent in Mata's curry shits than Fellaini.

Everton fans on the GOT forum seem to think they've robbed us, have any of them actually seen him play in the last two years?

An inevitability that he'll go really now. On the whole I've been underwhelmed and don't feel we've managed to get his Chelsea form out of him, though his stats have remained pretty decent. Most importantly, a crucial goal in the Cup Final too.

I wouldn't sell him for less than £25 million though and don't see why we would settle for less. I think that's roughly what he'll end up going for.

I don't think he will leave but if he does I wouldn't mind. He's useless nowadays and looks a shadow of himself in almost every game he plays. He's really not that good, and if we get Pogba I will forget about him before the season starts.

If this is a bargaining chip to get John Stones in through the door then its worth it. A player the manager feels we need for one that he feels we dont makes sense for any money.

Last year he scored 10 and got 8 assists, he has a contract until 2018. There is no reason we should accept €25m or £25m...

With prices as they are there is no reason he should be sold for less than £30m. I'd rather he stay here and actually play (could be an effective option as a number 10 off the bench or starting) than receive such a stupid amount for him. Everton can definitely afford it and why strengthen a team that we will have to play against for such a small amount? We might as well make them pay for it.

It is so frustrating that we seem to bend over so much when it comes to transfers - pay whatever is asked of us and then sell at dirt cheap prices.

Not really. Even when he was playing through the middle for us last season, he was indifferent at best. He isn't the player he was at Chelsea anymore.

Mata was unlucky that he joined us at the time we had 2 clown managers and worst period in 25 years. However he still managed to get around 10 goals and 10 assists each season.

It never really works like that. Everyone thought that we were doing the same by selling Shinji back to Dortmund for such a pitiful amount but look how they treated us with Mhikitaryan. They struggled with us the whole way and made us pay quite a lot for a player in the last year of his contract.

I just visited the Everton forum and they're pretty excited regards signing Mata. They know that paying £25 million for him is a total bargain while some United fans here are arguing we can sell him lower. He is going to be their best player and would improve your them massively because a team is gonna be built around him and that suits him. TBH we shouldn't sell him for anything less than £30 million but I know that won't happen.

I'm really disgusted.

Not generally no but it would certainly sweeten their disposition. Teams like Everton dont sign players like Mata every season.
