Joshua Zirkzee | signed for Manchester United

Here's a recap of what I just wrote

a- There's a reason why Kia is insisting on the full 12m agent fee at Milan. Ibra had just outed him in public which really stinks of hypocrisy considering how close Ibra's nose was to the late Mino's arse. Anyway Zirkzee's agent had already stated that if United are interested then he'll lower his demands

b- Zirkzee's goalscoring record is underrated. This is basically his first season outside the Belgian league were he was allowed to be a regular first teamer. A forward can't score goals if he doesn't play regular football. Last season for example he started just 5 games

c- Zirkzee is not the typical goal poacher. He drops very deep, he press and he creates a lot. If you see his heat map you'll see a copy and paste of Bruno's heat map. I was listening to emi scouting analysis on him (a professional team offering courses on football data analysis) and they believe that he could develop into a Totti style of player. That's the sort of player we need if we want to take the best out of wingers such as Garnacho and Rashford whose main aim is to cut inside and score goals themselves.
So how much do you think he would cost?

Yep, definitely an option. I think Hojlund said himself he was able to play wide when he signed for us.
And do what? Nothing he's shown even suggests he could do a good job out wide.

Run and shoot, mostly. Christ knows he needs to be shooting more and having his back to goal less.

These are my thoughts. It's what Wenger used to do with his forwards until they were ready to lead the line through the middle.

A wide player needs to do a lot more than that.

Well yeah. I don't really know what you're expecting here. It's pretty common for young strikers with pace to gain experience in wide positions when they aren't ready to lead the line solo 50 games a season.

Think the split striker systems that made Lukaku look good for a spell. There are games where it would definitely be an option, which is what I said. That okay with you?

I mean, is this guy good enough?
To be a squad player, sure. He's not as good as Hojlund and his potential is below Hojlunds, so he'd be purchased to be the long term 2nd option up top who gives us something different there.

Mainoo played a few minutes against Serbia didnt he?
You got me there, I can't lie.

But the point is it's not necessarily a sleight on the player if a manager doesnt play them.

I would argue that we need to invest to improve on existing options , not just add numbers . I’d rather we go for someone who’s like a more experienced version of hojlund , ideally more prolific. Toney esque signing in other words. Anyway I could be wrong and this guy could turn out to be terrific but right now I’m not convinced. Up to scouts to get their money’s worth I guess.

There’s very little in this guy’s career so far and the stats that should warrant the current level of excitement which surrounds him. The PL would be a tougher league than Serie A.

Listened to Castles' latest pod, quite enjoyable (had Rui Faria the other week), and he said his character was quite unpredictable (or mad). Has anyone heard of this before?
What's the name of Castles podcast please?

The transfers podcast.
Thank you. So he's started up a new podcast finally. Used to listen to The Transfer Window podcast with him and Ian McGarry all the time. When the latter passed away, the podcast ran for an episode or two more and stopped.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking too

Cons he's far from a sure thing but he’s still affordable relative to his potential talent.
His agent.

But then he gives us something different tactically to Rasmus. He’s not going to be found physically lacking. He will be happy to be a squad player. Not huge wages. A good age if we want to sell him on in a few years if someone better becomes available on a good deal. He also has the kind of potential where he could become our main forward if he gets on a run

You could say the same about Salah at Roma. When Liverpool bought him, who was really that fussed?

Sometimes a player, the manager, the playing style he implements all just click. There are no guarantees.

If he joins us, his profile will be instantly bigger and more likely he will start to play games for Holland.

Yeah, I'm glad he's getting back into it. He's got some interesting bits too, like Palace being vary of Chelsea after they were given permission to speak with Olise, since they went behind Rui Costa at Benfica, buy agreeing to the buy-out clause for Enzo and then turning his head with a pile of cash and reneging on the deal with Benfica, offering less than the buy-out. I hope that kind of practice bites them in the ass.

Would be interested to know more about Zirkzee's alleged crazy character.

I wonder why would a player who is 23, just got a taste as a starter for a season or 2, is happy to be a squad player again.

Yeah I didn't realise he had a crazy character

Maybe he is confident that, in a fair fight, he can bench Hoijlund and its not as far fetched a thought given the latter's difficulty in getting involved in matches, average link up play and basic technique. Zirkzee, if he can settle in the PL quickly, is more suited to playing with Bruno, Garnacho, Rashford and even Amad as he is a connector not a poacher.

I think Rasmus is currently ahead and has more potential as a striker but the shortcomings in his games limit what we can achieve currently. If he gets it together he will do fine because, on balance of things, he did well last season.

Struggling to get excited by this honestly.

Yeah think it's the Dutch thing and I really think Toney is made to wear Utd shirt, will admit I don't know how you keep him and Rasmus happy or even afford it

Yeah but you say anything when you're trying to get a job. For example, I specialise in conflict resolution. The conflict I resolved? Two blokes about to fight in a pub.
So you are a bouncer....it's what you are supposed to do :)

I'm still fussed that we didn't get Salah after the game away against Basel. The pace and ball control of the fecker cut us apart.
