Much improved.

If he can be more ruthless in the final third (eg. score more) he can be an asset going forward,

Have to say, I've probably never rated a player less than Zirkzee but he really surprised me last night. Some lovely touches abd even some nice passes. Seemed a bit quicker too. Hopefully he's getting in shape and he will prove me wrong

We owe this guy an apology. Got slated few weeks ago. Now he’s playing very good. He’s a smart player.

I didnt believe that he will be able to turn it around but it looks like he is getting better and adapting to PL. Bit more sharpness and physical strength, he will be even better as technically he is pretty good

Yeah this. I feel the same way. He looks to be growing into the role.

got to be honest, I would have been happy to have never seen him in a United shirt again a while ago but he did well last night, he had more time and it was weak opposition whatever but he had some nice touches in our own half and got out well, I’d like to see him thunder a shot on goal instead of these weak shots he does though

zirkzees first season here. Players like Dalot have been here forever and we know that they need moving on.
Yeah, I just think that fans in general are waaaay too quick to write a player off. Countless players have been deemed “never good enough” just to be praised the next game by the same fans.

I agree. It is quite hard though to be fair to know if a player will come good with better players and a more confident team. We definitely need upgrades in certain positions.

The thing that stood out when he was getting slated was that he has inner resolve. Probably not the most outwardly confident, but he faces up to things when its tough.

I quite like him. I just find it hard to get over the idiots in charge buying him to play as a striker.
Maybe if / when we finally get a striker i can just appreciate him for what he is

I try to keep quiet on him for now. It's hard to judge a new player, playing for a rotten club.

There have been a few instances over the last few months where he has shown his ability on the ball and somewhat proving that being a striker is not his natural instinct.

The pass to find amad against Everton just after half time was brilliant, skinning saliva twice and playing like Zidane against RS, I think showcases this.

Some of misses he has had have been quite frustrating, the lack of runs into the 6 yard box and generally not being where a striker should, get ls annoying.

Right now he is gving me Berbatov vibes, but without the goals. Not the fastest, but can be great with the ball. It looks like he does things in slow motion at times.

It's his first season, ill give him 12 more months to really judge him but long term, I can see him being a great addition from the bench.

He was signed as a CF and he still isn't much of one. What he's morphing into now is of benefit to the team which is positive, but I don't think anybody owes him any apology for expecting a CF and getting the player he is. I'd still like him to be more effective in front of goal.

The club knew they wasn’t signing a prolific goalscorer. We all know he isn’t that. I think the plan under ETH was to use zirkzee as a false 9 and allow him to bring the wingers into play. Bit similar to Liverpool when they had Firminho with Salah and mane playing off him. Obviously the systems changed now and Amorim as found him a new role as a 10 and he’s shown he’s capable of being a playmaker.

That's fair enough, but it still doesn't explain why the club signed somebody with such little goal threat when Hojilund was and still is so incredibly raw. Zirkzee showing potential is great, but I don't agree with bailing the club out by claiming they had some kind of foresight. We needed a striker last summer, nobody can possibly argue with that given the season we've just endured.

There were and are f*ck all strikers around. Modern game is goals from every player, perhaps unfortunately.

It's interesting to me how much the club are already using Zirkzee and De Ligt in club promo. Not just on MUTV, but external outlets where the club's historically been a lot more guarded with who they put up. Speaks to the trust in their character. We've had recent homegrown players who didn't do as much club promo in the last 6 years as Zirkzee's done in 6 months.

Andy Mitten's said a couple of times recently that Zirkzee's already a real 'connector' in the dressing room - that he gets on with the young guys, the older guys, the foreign contingent and the English players. Just seems like a really good guy to have in the squad.

Example of some of the media stuff he's done recently:

That checks out from what I've seen on the pitch, he's always encouraging his teammates and putting a hand on the shoulder when they mess up rather than lambast them or show them up like some of his squad mates.

Seems a good lad mentality wise, not surprised that he'd be a well liked figure in the dressing room

once I got past that he’s not a #9, or even a 9.5, and just think of him as a #10, then i think he’s actually quite decent and improving quickly

Good vision and a bit of magic in his boots. Also, he’s a decent target man. If we had better finishers around him he’d have a fair few more assists. I think we’ll look at him as quite a good signing by the middle of next season, if we get a strong #9 ahead of him

As for casting judgement. Lest ye forget, vidic was nothing special in his first half-season (and then some), and evra took more than a full year (two half seasons+) before he was considered a good signing. getting up to speed can take time

Can't judge any of our signings in their first year. Especially if they come from another country (which all of them did).

I'm hoping that we will have quite an asset on our hands, once he settles in

Wasn't he a 9 at Bologna? Hasn't he always been one?
