He needs to have the mental strength to realise he got booed cause it was one of the worst collective 30mins of football this club has put out in a long time and was the easy target for the fans to show their frustration.

On top of this he’s hardly been playing well so I hope he’s more upset about that than the booing. If he takes it to heart and we have another ‘mentally weak’ player on ours hands we need to ship him off at all costs. We haven’t got the time for coddling another one.

Im not sure he really cares about being subbed today. He can see we where getting bodied in midfield and the manager needed an extra midfielder in there. Im sure Amorim has explained this.

I think he cared about being booed off

I already said I don't rate him but booing him was pathetic. tolerating sulking, selfish primadonnas like Rashy for years and then doing it to this guy of all people, come on.

he obviously isn't good enough, but shit attitude is much bigger crime in my book than not being good for United.

I wish him all the best in his future club.

I don't mind the booing if it's consistent across all players. Bruno and Rashford have had more than one of those performances and are clapped off.

I feel really sorry for him that he had to go through that but this is a club built off the backs of hard working world class strikers.

Alan Smith, Welbeck and Forlan had moments at the club where they were incredibly shite but the amount of work they put in off the ball meant you could never really be too hard on them because they gave everything they had in those difficult moments.

Zirkzee is like a representation of the complete opposite of a Manchester United player. This is also why Fellaini was booed, we’d had years of Robson, Scholes, Keane, Carrick, Ince and then for a bruiser with pretty much no technique with the ball at his feet being in our midfield was too much of a culture shock.

Any player could have been booed but he’s the one player no United fan can see any semblance of the United identity in.

I really hope he can bounce back and prove us wrong but that will have to be at another club. He doesn’t seem to have the mental resilience in the way Fellaini did to turn things around.

He has a 6 year contract. No, really, he does, I just read it. You couldn't make it up.

In my memory Fellaini did score quite a few big game goals, but maybe that's just me.

Why did he head down the tunnel when subbed off? he wasn't injured which is usual the case for that unless you are Ronaldo..
Perhaps he already knows he's being moved on in January and he felt that this was possibly his last game at Old Trafford, In which case I can see his frustration.

I can’t see any way back from him after that jeering from the crowd, the young lad will be dreading the thought of being selected. Can you imagine him coming of the bench to receive another jeering?

His only option is to move on in January at all costs.

Pathetic from our fans. We were getting destroyed in midfield for a number of reasons. How is singling him out like that meant to help the team?

I don't think they'd be thinking much about that in that moment, just pure frustration spilling out, it was harsh on Zirkzee, but you can't really blame people for been tipped over the edge right now.

It's also hard to deny that we improved alot the moment he went off.

That was due to Mainoo bringing some actual legs to an immobile midfield, we were getting ran off the pitch prior.

Even with chances, our attack wasn't any more decisive or clinical without him

Maybe he simply needed a shit and this has all been blown out of proportion. I've been close to tears needing one before.

I know, and Zirkzee was an easy target, but I still can't say I blame the fans for doing it.

It was more directed at the club as a whole right now rather than anything personal towards Zirkzee himself though imo.

How do you figure that? If true our fans are (somehow) even more brainless than I thought, it makes no sense.

What?! Is that the club being "clever" to shift that 40m fee across 6 years? Like Chelsea do?

Won't be so clever when we're paying most of that off to shift him.

There were a few chances, not many.
But that substitution instantly stopped an absolute free for all that could have ended in a record home defeat, to absolutely calm again.
You could argue some of that was down to Newcastle easing off, but it was a good sub.

It's a 5+1 contract, like our usual contracts. The last year is an additional option by the club

I don't see why you view it as brainless.

Are you suggesting that they should just sit there and not complain with the football they are seeing and the way the club is been run?

Zirkzee didn't deserve it, but then it's hardly the end of the world, maybe it could a turning point for him.

A transfer that’s not worked out. But no one was saying last summer that we had a bad transfer window. We actually sign players with good reputations. You can’t just turn into bad players over night. We’re a curse for players. Players are going to be looking at us and thinking I’m currently doing well why would I want to go there and ruin my career. That’s what we do, ruin players careers. Until the environment is much better, no player will succeed. We’ve been called out by so many players and managers including Ronaldo, Moyes, Rangnick, yet nothings changed.

If they’re not good enough and not mentally strong enough that’s their fault not the club. I’ve no doubt they trust their own ability but get shocked at the size and pressure at the club once here. Not everybody fails

Still amazed at the reaction by some to insinuate that simply booing a player is the worst thing ever when some clubs have their supporters racially abusing players

Name 3 signings in the last 3 years that have been a success?

I doubt there were more than ten individuals on this forum who had watched him thoroughly in the Serie A. He was a young player enjoying his breakthrough season under an up & coming manager. Typically, this is all it takes for a new signing to be rendered a good deal on here. As for his good reputation, it didn't extend beyond the notion that he's a false #9 who will do the heavy lifting between the lines for Rashy and Garnacho to score the goals. And now that he's struggling to adapt, he gets jeered for failing to meet people's false expectations. Because there's no curse. You only need to watch the Serie A for a month or so to understand that Italian football exists in its own bubble when it comes to intensity and time afforded on the ball. Therefore, you should always do your due diligence when purchasing from that league. Or let me rephrase that. The infamous curse is United signing/offering new contracts to players who, for various reasons, need more assistance from the system/tactics to maximize their (current) output than the assistance they can offer themselves to maximize the benefits of a system that has worked elsewhere. Because it's a two-way street, always has been.

First of all let me just say I don’t rate him as a player at all, and pretty much made my mind up within a few games. It was just so obvious he wasn’t a good fit for the PL and needs to be moved on for both parties sake. You don’t really need to be a genius to see this.

However, what happened last week was horrible and truly undeserved. We’ve had years and years worth of watching underperforming, overpaid, lazy mercenaries putting in the bare minimum on the pitch. And effectively getting away with it. Managers coming in, breaking all sorts of negative records and being clapped off the pitch right up to their final moments.

So for this 23 year old kid, who’s been here 6 months, to be the one who the crowd finally turned on like that was just incredibly difficult to see. It was completely unfair and I feel very sorry for him. He looked broken. Whatever you think of him as a player, he didn’t deserve that. For what it’s worth, I also think Amorim has to take a portion of the blame for the whole sorry situation too. He threw him completely under the bus.

Totally agree.

I was ashamed by what I heard on TV when he came off and to him distraught was awful.

His confidence is shot to pieces. I don’t think he will play again for us and will leave this month.

I fully support Amorim but could not understand the line up he picked. Casemiro, Erikson and Zirkzee in the same lineup. Nuff said.

I think two things can be true. The first one is that I believe that your fans have been incredibly patient, supportive and forgiving with the club for many years. Looking at the things you’ve been through, had that happened at Bayern, Barca, Real or the likes, they would have burned the stadium by now. Still your fans remain loyal and supportive. Until they aren’t anymore. And things start to heat up and they finally start to voice their concerns by booing. Which is not only justified, but long overdue and still far too little considering the shit you’ve been served.
The second thing is that I believe this breaking point was reached in an unfortunate moment, when your fans basically blew off steam by humiliating a single player, who is neither one of the important ones at your club, nor there long enough to be held responsible.
They just choose poorly once they started to be fed up.

Ideally, I’d like to see your fans channel their anger more towards better moments. Booing single players is always a bit extreme to me. At least in the way Zirkzee had to deal with. Booing the team, however, is fair game to me. So instead of unloading on a single guy who is already going though a career low by being subbed after a few minutes, they should just boo the whole team come halftime or the end of the game.
Be angry, be loud and be demanding. But towards the whole club, not some poor dude who’s just arrived at this dumpster fire that is your club.

That’s just terrible choice of signings buying from the Dutch league.
That was successful in that league? Granted it’s an easier league but they should still be showing qualities for us. Teams sign players from lower leagues all the time and they perform fairly well. Gakpo for example came from the same league as Antony. So I’m not falling for this ‘they came from a worse league’ excuse.

Gakpo went into a winning team and looks ok this year. You fill you team with them and you’ll end up mid table. The signings are still working but the combined quality is seriously lacking. We just haven’t bought good enough top players for years

I can’t argue with that. I still think we play a part in ruining some of them though. A bad environment will never help a player be successful when surrounded by players with bad attitudes.
