Jose Mourinho | Sacked by Roma

Good luck to him. Probably a decent shot of winning trophies.

I still hope his career has a small revival at some point, at least to the point where he wins something of note.

Is there a 4th tier international cup planned any time soon so he can extend his tattoo?

Good god Jose, just retire and enjoy life now
Severance money from Madrid, Chelsea, and Man Utd. This guy could’ve retired twice over at this point really.

I like this tweet that mentions he’s a former Man United manager and no mention of Chelsea, Madrid and Roma

Quoting a tweet from "@UtdDistrict" might have something to do with that though. Just a guess.

The original Di Marzio article only mentions his previous club Roma by name, no mentions of anyone else.

Good luck to him Fenebahce is a tough job, didnt they get 99 points this season with only 1 defeat and still not win the league.

Yeah was a crazy race between them & Gala. Trabzonspor finished 3rd and were closer in points to 2nd bottom (19th) than they were to Fener in 2nd.

Fenerbahçe?!

How far can he fall?! Not even the biggest club in Turkey, Galatasaray it is. But to take a job there, it was better to return to Portuguese League and wait for Benfica, Porto or Sporting to offer him a job.

With how volatile Turkish football is, Mourinho could be box office. I won't be surprised if does something like Souness did

Are there people that still think he's better than Pep?
I think there's a good argument to say he has the better achievements because Pep just won't ever take a mid to high risk job. Right now, though, one has clearly fallen from grace.

Don't see the logic here. He should wait for the Euros to end, let a few NT managers (Martinez w/ Portugal) get sacked and take that job for the 2026 WC cycle.

How the mighty have fallen.

Why did he not just go to Saudi and pick up 20* the money?

Or manage internationally.

But Mourinho only takes on these riskier jobs because no big club will touch him. He's not doing it out of charity or because he's looking for a challenge. Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real, Chelsea, United, Tottenham, Roma, Fener... The peak has been passed and the trend is clear.

Porto and Inter were early on

Are you saying he wouldn't have got a national job instead of Spurs or Roma ? No big clubs would touch him but He will easily land a decent national job if he was interested

This was in chronologically order.
Yes...you said he only takes risky jobs because no club would touch him but his best achievements are with the non favourite teams (Porto winning the CL, inter doing the treble) which were early on and when everyone wanted him.

The big three in Portugal wouldn't wouldn't match what big spenders Fenerbahce would offer him. It seems to me that Mourinho wouldn't take a job in Portugal, he even turned down the NT twice.

Galatasaray are the biggest Turkish club, but Fenerbahce have won the most league titles.

They also have a rich spread out tradition of enticing big name players in the twilight of their careers. Roberto Carlos, Jay-Jay Okocha, Anelka, Dirk Kuyt and ex united players RVP and Nani have all played there. It's not a bad gig for a coach with his best days well behind him

It has always been volitale but not at this scale. Fener's president is the richest man in Turkey. His family is the Agnelli of the country. But he is such a spoiled man and he can not accept failure. It will be his 7th year, he worked with I dont't know 10 different managers. He bought probably close to 100 players ( the figure is not an exaggeration). Yet he has not won any league titles. Fener has not won the league since 2014. Because of that, being the spoiled man he is, he can not accept failure and becomes more aggressive everyday. He says Galatasaray and its fans are existential threat to the country. He said Galatasaray fans are supporters of a certain terrorist organization ( you read that right). Last two years were very close in terms of competition and Galatasaray has won them both. That's why winning the league is not an object anymore, it is an obsession.

He is such an erratic man that he collected close to 50.000 people to show him support to withdraw the club from the league. It was a bluff, but the fans gathered. It only resulted in not participating in the super cup competition ( basically community shield version of turkey).

Mourinho is not an easy man to work with. Fener's president is an impossible man to work with. It has a potential to be a very toxic relationship. I don't know if it is best option Mourinho had to somehow show he is not finished.

Nah. Galatasaray has 5 more league titles.

Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Chelsea, United, Spurs, Roma, Fenerbahce. You'd think his next job is Portugal or some other NT.

Who knows but it could be good for Mourinho. Decent chance to win a league title (first since 2015 for him, first since 2014 for Fenerbahce) again after a decade. Could qualify for Champions League and he hasn't been it that competition for almost 5 years. I actually think seeing Olympiacos winning the Conference League the other night that it could be chance for Jose to do the same thing with Fenerbahce if they're in the competition at some point of his reign.

@gica_7 given your description of current state of Fenerbahce and their owner, Mourinho seems perfect. Of course it'll all go to hell in 24-30 months, but until then if they can win the title, it'll be worth it for them probably.

Agree with this post

I was initially a bit disappointed by Mourinho going to Turkey, but this description got me pretty psyched! Seems like a big challenge and the sort of volatile rivalry that Mourinho will relish!

He should seriously consider managing a national team I think it would be better for his reputation, he hasnt addapted to new football tactics and he's not a top manager anymore. He's going down fast, I mean Roma already seemed like a lower job for him but who would have thought he'd end up managing in Turkey?
