Jose Mourinho | Sacked by Roma

Perisic has never reached the level Sanchez showed at Arsenal. How are you sure he wouldn't have stunk up this place just as much as Sanchez if not more?
Because despite not being at a certain level, I’ve never seen him not put a shift in, which is something our players have forgotten is a requirement

He was right about Rashford not being a ST or good enough
He was right about Martial not being good enough
He was right about Pogba being a virus
He was right about Shaw not being reliable
He was right about Ed Woodward and The Glazers
He was right about Perisic being a top player and we should have signed him in 2017 when the valuation difference was only £5m
He was right about us needing a CB in 2018
If only we'd listened to him we'd be much closer to City/Liverpool than we are now.

He’s gone, he’s not had a top job since and he won’t ever have one again. Get over him.

I agreed with all but the ship has sailed. He did a good job to get sacked himself.

Yeah but how did he try to solve these problems?

He signed Pogba the virus.

He signed Lukaku

He signed Fred and put him in the reserves

He signed a past it Sánchez

I never got the complaint about the Lukaku signing.

Back then it was clear the original plan was to keep Zlatan for one more year and sign Griezmann. Zlatan got ACL and Griezmann deal failed, we shifted to Lukaku.

Lukaku was easily the best option available for the striker position in that summer. The other options were freaking Morata and Belotti. Both had a far, far worse career trajectory since then than Lukaku. Morata failed miserably with Chelsea and has been below average since leaving them, and does anyone even know Belotti now? The other option was entering the season with Martial and Rashford which would have been a disaster.

Lukaku scored 27 goals in his first season including 16 in the league. We signed a player with high value and when it didn't work in second season we sold him for a very high price tag, almost equal to what we spent for him, to Inter.

United lost nothing out of this deal. We signed him as the best option available back then, squeezed a lot of goals from him then sold him quickly for ton of money. Neither money nor value were lost.

Hardly a bad signing all things considered.

Now let's compare that for example to the disaster that's Harry fecking Maguire. We signed an above averave defender at best for 80 freaking millions with no resale value, gave him the armband, and now are stuck with him. Whenever we manage to sell him we will lose ton of money. We will never be able to crop what we paid for him, unlike high resale value players like Lukaku. That's what I call a shit business.

Lukaku was a decent business by United. Nothing wrong about this deal.

It was the same for Di Maria by the way.

He wanted and got Lukaku
He got Alexis Sanchez
He is the one who bought Pogba
He wanted to replace Shaw with Rose
Everyone knows about Woodward and Glazers, he signed the extension
He wanted Maguire in 2018
We would not be in a better place if we listened to him.

It's just that people get worked up into agenda driven hatred. Mention Fellaini, Lukaku, Jose and people get triggered so easily. All of them did a half decent job in truth just not the ideal standard we expect.

Seems like Jose is doing a decent enough job over at Roma. Not sure he's got what it takes to really propel such a team though.

Reading this thread it is iinteresting that Jose is polarising.
It seems that people either love him or hate him....no in-between.
I did want him to succeed here, but after the Summer transfer debacle in his final season, it was clear that the club were not interested in pushing for a league title. They wanted 4th place. Jose wanted to win the league and when he wasn't backed with the players he wanted, he gave up.

If not for the habitual bottling from Roma, Caf is going to witness the re-emergence the cultists en-masse. Wait for a barrage of posts of how the cultists had proclaimed that Moronho would win a trophy before United won another one.

You forget that aside from commenting on others he wasn't good enough at his actual job.

He signed Pogba.
He replaced Martial with our worst ever signing.
He signed the non contact sport defender Lindelof
He signed Bailly
He signed bloody Dalot, apparently one of the best young RBs in the game
He signed Fred who was useless under him for ages
He signed cups only player Mkhitarian
He spent shitloads (for that time a gigantic fee) on Lukaku

And we played mediocre football. Jose has nobody to blame but himself and we were right to sack him.

The thing is Jose would have found it hard to win the league even if he was given another £150m. The biggest reason was his average football that he had set us play each week especially against any half decent sides. Yes we won some but his defeat to sevilla and the manner of it really showed we won't be able to match pep or klopp under him.

To be honest, a lot of fans were right about these things. Doesn’t mean they would be great managers. It’s easy calling out other problems when he was one himself. The only way he could’ve been proven right was if he had flourished somewhere else.

On course for that 8th place finish now, expert 1-1 home draw to bottom of the table Venezia (who also played with 10 men from 25th minute).

Got sacked at Spurs and is doing an average job at Roma. To say we'd be closer to Liverpool and City with him is delusional. He's well past it.

Finishing 6th in Serie A (with only one point more than last season, I know) and winning ECL (Roma's first trophy since 2008) would be a good season imo. Will be interesting to watch them vs Feyenoord on Wednesday.

He simply lost the plot after Real sacked him. At Chelsea second stint he was not the same man. And when he came to us I got the sense he knew the job offer came too late. He looked burnt out. I don;t know whether he was or the game had changed and his system could no longer win.

Having said that. Utd 2013- 2021 was run abysmally. Did he sign many of those players or were they forced on him by Ed?

Like everything it's bit of both. It doesn't have to be 100% one side.

Winning the CL twice and winning the league in PL, la Liga and serie A is a great feat. His s days are gone. But you never know. Lot of people said the same thing with Ancellotti during his time at Everton.

Roma last season - 62 points, Won 18, Drew 8, Lost 12, Scored 68, Conceded 58, GD+10
Roma under Jose - 63 points, Won 18, Drew 9, Lost 11, Scored 59, Conceded 43, GD+16

What an impact.

i remember a lot of fans siding with the players and putting all the blame on jose at that time. I don’t hate him. He is afterall still our most successful manager post Fergie.

i agree with u that he was part of the problem by the 3rd season and he had to go. His negativity and the constant press speculation on his sacking were getting unbearable.

Points are worth more a lot more this season. Europa League position attained - only conference last season. They are not good enough for Champions League, so that was unrealistic. Not much place to go until next season.

In the first 3 seasons with us at Inter he could keep being not arsed from months on end.

Not blaming him much given the squad and the locker room we had but still.

Also: IMO his end-product as wingback in a 352 is way way more valuable than anything I've seen him deliver as winger in a 433 - 4231

Add to the fact that they've spent over 100m€. It's been over 20 years since they've spent such a large sum of money - net spend wise.

Net transfer is not a great argument when the manager has just taken over, particularly when the squad he took over was quite low value to begin with.

They sold Dzeko, their top scorer last season with 16 goals in Serie A, for £1m. Let's be honest, your chances of getting a similar player for that amount is low. The replacement, Abraham, cost £36m, which is not a bad price considering the market. He has done well, managing 17 goals, but it is only 1 goal more. So, that is £35m more to replace a similar output.

You can even look at the ages of the players to add to this. Last season, they had, at least, 10 players 30 or over. This season, they have four. It shows how many players have been shifted, and for very little money in return.

Net is based too much on what team is inherited. In the end, it looks like they have needed a rebuild and have managed to do that whilst climbing the table a bit and getting Europa League. They could even win the Conference League.

They clearly thought he was gonna bring some success to the club that's why the gave him such a large budget and then he goes and does basically the same as the last few managers.
Winning the mickey mouse of european cups is nothing to brag about.

He's done a decent job this season all told.
In a European final too, which can't be laughed at.
A similar season next season will be the end of him there though.

It's a fricking intertoto level of competition for crying out loud

If he wins it, then it's a trophy, one more than United this season.
It's only laughed at by fans who probably haven't played competitive football at any high standard, and don't realise that trophies are what players strive for, no matter what format
