Next season will be the most important of his career IMHO.

His United Career yes. Even if he fails here he will still have had an awesome career and personally I think he will always finish top 4 so his overall legacy shouldn't be too damaged. Can he go further than that though? Great result today but truthfully speaking it was very very close to sheer disaster so we are really going to have to make some tweaks with our approach to games next year. He's going to have to look within himself and make the necessary modifications both in terms of tactics and man management to transform the side into a truly elite outfit. After that second half he surely deserves that backing that he can come good and yes it's hard to believe Jose can modernise .. but I wouldn't want to write him off doing just that next year.

The man's won 2 CLs. The most important season of his career was 09/10, which cemented him as the special one.

Mourinho could get relegated with Utd and he would still go down as one of the best managers in the modern game. He is the spiritual successor to Helenio Herrera and is almost as big a legend for Inter as him.

I don't agree completely, his achievements are set in stone and nothing will ever change but for a manager to not compete, never mind for a big trophy (PL or CL) at a club like this would truly tarnish his legacy.

His best performance for United surely, restored my hope in him a little bit, hope this will make him ditch his cagey approach to these games, we can beat anyone if we're arsed enough.

I don't think so, managers like Mourinho that have very volatile personalities always have the chance of capitulating. Brain Clough got relegated with Forest, but he still goes down as one of the best managers ever because of his previous achievements.

Best in the world. Some must be so unhappy united won today, it doesnt suit their agenda.

How's the top 6 table looking now?

W: 5 (Home - Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs. Away - Arsenal, City)
D: 1 (Liverpool)
L: 3 (Spurs, Chelsea away. Home - City)

16 points out of a possible 27. Soon to be 19 out of 30 assuming we beat Arsenal. That's a fantastic record.

The players are with him.

Will stand us in god stead going into the summer.

Us-against-them, siege mentality in full operation.

Still fecking ridiculous looking at how shite Sevilla are in La Liga this season. Wouldn't have cared if we got put out by a decent side.

Today's performance needs to become something we see more often.

The second half, yes. We can't keep starting games like this. We were lucky not to be 4-0 down after that first half.

Its bemusing and only gets worse with every day. The more I think about it, the more it seems it was complacency that cost us a place in the QF.

Well we actually started decently. A lack of a leader seems to be a problem. Which would explain we improve so much after a 15 minute cooling off period. Someone needs to calm nerves and reiterate the game plan when we lose the lead.

Might've been a very frustrating result for us in the end, but that's so over the top. 'Shite' as they might be in the league, they've made it to Copa del Rey final knocking out Atletico by beating them twice. Recently drew 2-2 against an unbeaten Barcelona. Drew 3-3 in the Champions League against the dippers. Such a shite team.

We started the game off very well IMO, then Smalling got bullied by Kompany and the floodgates opened.

I can't really fault Mourinho for the tactics today, it felt like a game we could win until the players basically lost their heads.

IMO it was an even game until the first 25 minutes, then City dominated for 20 mintes. The 2nd half was all us, except for the last 10 minutes.

They're 7th in the fecking league! Lost 13 times, -11 goal difference.

I think the evidence is firmly on my side here.

If we had better defenders we could have gone in 0-0 and in the second half we finally used our attacking players like Pogba properly and got the results we needed.

Yeah for 15 minutes or so we were in the game, but after City's first goal we completely collapsed (like we've done too many times before), and that's very worrying. But credit to the players and Mourinho, winning 2-3 after being 2-0 down at Etihad against this City team is a remarkable achievement. I really did not expect that at all, and I'm still buzzing.

I agree. The pieces are finally coming together. Finish the season strong in the league and the Cup, wrap Mourinho's key targets up before the World Cup, and plan for next season. Signings of the quality of Sanchez, Lukaku, Matic, Bailly, Pogba, and you start to see a Mourinho team coming together. Left back, right back (competition/cover), CM, attacker, if any of those are of the same quality signed since his arrival it could be one of the best squads the club has ever had (assuming we keep the likes of Martial and Mata).

He needs to sort out the defence. Pogba etc can't be put into positions where they're recovering sloppy passes against a high press.

At least 4 defenders next season. He needs a pitbull terrier in the midfield too. If he’s got confidence in the defenders, he won’t instruct them to sit deep or do a low block in some of the games.

I am certain that the reason for the comebacks in the epic comebacks in the last few games are down to Sanchez not being another soppy head down merchant. His work rate is fantastic and he s always trying and puts a shift in as well. Instrumental and a clear difference where we did not have that extra little bit like we needed vs city at OT earlier this season where 2 massive defensive errors by Lukaku gifted city the win but we did not quite have the edge or grit to come back fully in that game.

Well done Jose. Credit for the first and the second half.

This proves that we have the players to go toe to toe against the best. Please let's get into the habit of not going defensive. Sets us nicely for next season if Jose buys well and we tweak our attack a bit.

Very Happy with the win and especially against city at home.

Now hoping for city to win against Liverpool

I love Jose but I cant stop thinking his decision to start Fellaini against sevilla and offered them way more respect than they deserved will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I think he’s perfect for us and he’s still the man to steady the ship after SAF I just hope he wins us more trophies. A summer clearout of deadwood and sign a fullback and 1 other should leave him in good sted for next season! I still support him!

Some positivity I guess from looking at historical tables.

22 wins so far this season. 6 matches remain. 69% of matches won in the league. That's a higher percentage than the average of title winners in the first 10 seasons of the PL (65% or 25/38 wins), and more wins (already) than United had in 1997 when winning the title. Same amount of wins as United had in the Treble winning season too.

From 2003 onwards, title winners have averaged about 70-71% or 27 wins. So 5 out of our last 6 to equal that.

Point is, despite City likely to break some records this season (hopefully they crumble a bit and don't) - United, at least on paper, might just be building towards something.

But Forest and this current Man Utd aren't of the same stature. It'll still be a blip in his legacy, specially with the bad football he's associated with, if he doesn't win, it becomes even easier to criticize him.

Whatever he said at half time, he should say it before the game next time.

Shows how fickle I am. Probably wanted him out since Sevilla. Texted that he must go again at half time.

After that I want to see where he gets us next season now. As someone said above, the players are with him.

Done some good things and bad things. Good outweighs the bad, so definitely hope he can weed out the problems next season.
