José Mourinho | 2018/19 Performances

Yeah i dont think the board really cares about anything else. Dropping out of top 4 is the only one that has a significant impact on the financial standing of the club probably. They don't give a feck about style of play, and while it's nice to win the title, I dont think they are that bothered as long as we stay solid and keep our name as one of the big clubs worldwide (which of course will change in time if we keep failing).

I think the board and Ed for all their faults do listen to the fanbase. The pressure will be massive, especially if the style doesn't improve. This is not Arsenal and Jose is hired to bring trophies. They can have another manager that can give them top 4.
They gave him a 1-year extension which also isn't a massive sign of confidence.

Don't forget the other side of a coin. Jose being happy with a 4th place and watching Pep lifting trophies. No way.

He said he can count on one hand the players he's interested in for next season in the post match San Jose press conference, all whilst looking depressed and completely uninterested with the pre season all together, why is it "nuts" to call that negative? Re Pereira don't be daft, obviously offering advice for improvement is important but there's a time and a place. He's come back off loan, put in a strong performance and instead of doing the right thing and publicly supporting the effort, he chooses to call it "okay" and says he needs to play more simple. He is shit at man management.

He didn't say the "players he's interested in" at all though did he. Try again

Preseason and the doom merchants are already in full swing. Anyone remember LVG's first preseason...beat Real ,Liverpool, Inter, Valencia, Roma....literally means nothing

What about the tail end of last season?
We finished the season creating few chances and the pre-season seems to be continuing in the same vein.

He looks bored and miserable. We can all speculate as to why. We don't know the full story.

However, in saying that, we looked worse than a pub team, at times, under Fergie during pre season and we looked like Barcelona mk2 under LvG in his first pre season so, I am not reading anything into it, regarding the football right now.

Having said that, if the first game of the season ends 2-2, Martial looks like he's in a moody competition with the manager and Sanchez looks like he's a Cocker Spaniel chasing his own tail, I'll have one leg over the side of the fence

OK, so this is based on feeling. I bet you that if Jose finishes the season as our manager we will finish in the top 4. Tagline at stake.

I would have thought so myself, but I guess it's that the collective spirit in the fanbase went sour (I mean the difference in the Caf in September and March would have been gigantic), the unfulfilled expectations when Sanchez came, Liverpool doing well in the CL and City not relenting at any stage all probably contributed to our moods being terrible by spring when in the autumn we were still naive and innocent.

It does give me a renewed sense of optimism because for some reason I thought we jumped off a cliff, but we actually had some great results.

It was failure to break down defensive teams that was our main downfall. Fred might help a little for speed of attack, but otherwise I'm struggling to see what we can do differently.

A natural winger would be one obvious option, so can get crosses in to Lukaku and Fellaini.

Otherwise its through balls so maybe Sanchez as a centre mid, or Lingard with the long shots, but that is hit and miss.

We do lack set piece specialists, both corners and free kicks, or at least with any degree of consistency.

Yeah, and under Moyes we were outplayed by some Asian teams in the preseason games. Looking for patterns in football is one of the most idiotic things I’ve seen, and I see it almost constantly here and on some other United forums. “Oh, remember when in 05/06 we were in transition period, and then season later were outplaying most of the teams? This is what’s happening now!”. I, for one, am not looking forward to this season, because I can’t see any cohesion in this team, just a bunch of individuals that may have one moment of brilliance in a game or two, but all in all it is gonna be the same boring shite, because that is Mourinho way.

I remember having a great pre-season under the GOAT SAF where I think we thrashed Milan and Juve at their pomp bit we made a mess of the league. Another season we had a mare and could not win for love not money and I think that we won the treble that year or a year we won the double? Could be wrong.

Missed his daughter's graduation for the first day of pre season training. I doubt he hates us (yet)

Probably hates her.
Or else that’s why he hates us.
Or maybe she hates him cause he’s a grey cloud.

Either way, something is rotten in the state of José. Players know it, fans know it and José knows it.
Once he’s gone you just know he’ll fling more shit at the club than an irate chimpanzee in a zoo.

Bit more positive..

I'm sure it'll be twisted into, "He has Matic waiting in the hotel so he can beat the piss out of Pereira and is shipping out young goalkeepers for David De Gea, who had a terrible World Cup! Terrible man management, Jose Out!!"

Can't make any judgements on the team based on pre season, as much as I want him gone I'll wait till a few games into the season to determine if we're making progress or not

That tweet shows the incompetence of the club. Why is Matic waiting at the hotel? should have just put him in a helicopter and follow Jose everywhere.

There’s a massive meltdown happening this year I can feel it. Results won’t go our way and he’ll blame (and maybe rightly so) a lack of investment in key areas and we’ll see a complete split between him and the board.

Jose’s last season at United this.
You guys read media too much and check the tweet which quote them , i am sure 90% of it was a bollocks.

Mourinho finished 2nd last year and didn’t win anything. Of course he’s not happy. Him and the club have been panned by all corners of the media for a good couple of seasons now and most of it is sensationalism or twisting of the truth and yet there’s a majority on here that are complaining and going after the man because he’s not laughing and joking with those prats. Some of you should take a look at yourselves. I wouldn’t be laughing and joking with those d!ck heads either.

None of you (I include myself obviously) have any clue what goes on behind the scenes or how jovial the man is with his players or what he says to them one to one. Nor should you. It’s none of your business. You’re not an employee, you’re supposed to be a fan. Supposed to be anyway....

Some of the football was dull last year but it wasn’t awful. The man has always been a winner. For fecks sake let’s give him some time to get it right before we get the pitchforks out. Some of you have bought into the media claptrap when all of us have to acknowledge he’s improved us from Moyes and LVG’s time here.

Providing we keep improving, he needs our support, the players need our support. All this shite about Klopp and Liverpool and how they’re doing so much better than us makes me want to be sick in my mouth a little....fecking Liverpool. Some of you are on the wind up surely. Klopp may win something with his headless chicken football, which would probably finish me off, but how long do you think the scouse will put up with his oh so pleasing style whilst still not winning anything...another 2 years, 4...?

Sometimes things get worse before they get better. Honestly, if you knew for a fact that Mourinho was only half way through his rebuilding phase but that when he was done, we’d go back to dominating again, would you see it out? I ask because he could be but there’s so many of the know it alls privy to the inner workings of the club and Mourinho’s mental state that you’ve already decided he’s finished and has to go.

I’m surprised/disappointed if this is a fair representation of our fan base. It has become so much more negative on the Cafe than in a dozen Mourinho interviews....

Do you enjoy the journey or the destination?
Do you like work or just bringing home the bacon?
Do you think foreplay matters or is it just about finishing?
Does gradual improvement lead to success in life or winning a lottery bring improvement in an individual?
Is football about firstly, entertaining or winning? (Mind you they are not mutually exclusive, and entertainment comes in different form)
What do you watch for entertainment, football or movie? (Thanks to that one poster for that one freaking great comment. You are a savior for us all.)

These are the questions that need serious answering.

Going by your team ratings last season, you should be some sort of authority on being a grey cloud.

Anyway, we managed to come 2nd last year and even played in the FA cup final. A decent season in my view. We have players who have improved in Lingard and Rashford. We have a player who has had a major psychological boost in Pogba. One or two more good signings and I think we are competitive for the league again.

The only grey cloud over the club atm is all the depressing fans weighing the club down with their negativity. Do you people spend your nights worried that the sun won’t come up in the morning?

Jose’s last season at United this.

He's drastically improved our playing squad, taken us from 6th to 2nd, to 3 cup finals, raised our standards from "we should get in the top 4" to "we should challenge for the title" in the space of two seasons.

The only meltdown I see is amongst a handful of RedCafe posters.

So in an article based on these quotes...
"I think the World Cup is the perfect habitat for a player like him to give [their] best.

"Why? Because it's closed for a month, where he can only think about football. Where he's with his team on the training camp, completely isolated from the external world, where they focus just on football, where the dimensions of the game can only motivate.

"During a season, you can have a big match then a smaller match, then one even smaller, then you can lose your focus, you can lose your concentration, then comes a big match again.

"In the World Cup, the direction of the emotion, of the responsibility, of the big decisions is always growing up.

"You are in the group phase, you go to the last 16, to the quarterfinals, to the semifinals, to the finals. This feeds the motivation. This feeds the concentration of a player.

Good post. Especially the bolded bit.

Until I see Klopp win them a trophy I can't say that.
Please...we as Utd supporters make light of teams winning the League Cup yet we dfend Jose to the bone bone when we take it....Europa isn't much better but still a decent trophy.....then we get I to the Champs League tuck our tail between our legs and play like cowards...what was the point of winning Europa in the first place? Klopp has those cnuts playing some nice football and it's getting better, you lot keep bashing him but pretty soon we will be looking up at Pool.

Jose' performances during this pre-season, thus far has been very negative, talking down the players, outlining mismanagement of the tour and looking miserable.
As fans we really need our manager to show a bit of positivity and I'd guess our younger players are very much aware where they rank in Jose' thought.
Jose needs to up his game, being a miserable cnut certainly isn't going to end well for him....

This doesn't make any sense to me at all considering Pogba played like this at Juve as well. Not the exact same role of course but the same quality of performances. It's only United that are failing to get the best out of him. Mourinho's comments would've made sense if Pogba was inconsistent at Juve but he wasn't. Obviously something clicked this summer but I don't believe it was just because he started to focus. He's played like this for us the majority of last season too bar maybe Newcastle away and Spurs. It doesn't get noticed though. He has to affect games by scoring or assisting like vs City for people to acknowledge he had a good game.
He's been asked to do a lot more playing for us then he has been doing for France. All the creative burden is placed on him but at France he's been more relaxed in the knowledge that other top players are there to take attention away and he kind of took a back seat almost.

You can't compare International Football with Club Football. 2 different worlds.

Klopp has been at Liverpool longer and has achieved less. In the span of two years Jose has won us more and got us higher on the table. When exactly will we be "looking up at Liverpool"?

Appreciating the work Klopp has done from an entertainment POV I completely understand, but people have been saying we are doomed to fall beneath Liverpool since Klopp joined now.

Anyone see the official instagram story? Zlatan came by the UCLA training ground and said something along the lines of "it's great to see the players training good and being ready for this season because something special will happen and I think the boss has something going on, so we'll keep that secret". What does Zlatan think Mourinho has planned?

He's going to shed his skin and expose that he's actually a lizardman after a grueling 1-0 win at West Brom.

We were so far off city the league was over in October and we lost the FA cup cause of José's continued tactical stubbornness.

Decent season and competing for the league?! I'd rather be a realist grey cloud than a delusional Mr Brightside.
The football we play is woeful and José looks like the only reason he is still at Utd is cause he has a gun to his frazzled head. Cannot be healthy for the players.
He won't see out the season anyway.

He is completely spot on, I see him as someone who says whatever he has in his mind, he never sugarcoat anything just to babysit some fans here or gave them false hope. Some people having meltdown here because they just don't like to hear the ugly truth coming from him and prefer him to say a sweet lies instead. Pogba play his WC the way Jose want him to play regularly United ( more discipline, more responsibility to defend, mark his man well ,cover and duel with everything coming around his area ) and we all see the best from him during WC.

He has been brutally honest and said nothing wrong there. There is no reason why Pogba cannot play like that for us. He is not being asked to do much different for his club side.

Sure, except...Mourinho failed to mention Paul having deal with his own terrible man management for 9 months, failed to mention the absurdly slow level of play he seems incapable of fixing which cripples the midfield and stalls the attack, the supreme inability of the back 4 to play the ball forward etc...

But yes, thank you for highlighting the until know, unknown truth that tournament football is different than a league campaign. Aces!
