That means losses, out of the top 4, no trophies...

Careful what you wish for. PSFE syndrome can be bad
We look set to be out of top four this coming season if he doesn't change his attitude. At best I can see us at 5th.

I’ve always supported Jose, but I feel he’s going completely off the rails in the last 6 months or so. For me I remember his time initial period at Chelsea and you could see those players willing to run through a brick wall for him. He needs and craves that loyalty.

For whatever reason he has turned against key players at United, namely Pogba and Martial, and has caused both of them to be keen to leave the club. Pogba of whom is right on the cusp of being a totally dominant player in the game of the next few years.

How has he not decided to build the team around Paul rather than ostracise him and his good friend. Pogba should be his most loyal of compatriots, whom he used to motivate others, some might say that’s his Captain. It seems that it could not be further from the truth.

I’ve always believed that the manager comes first at United, but when I watch us play compared to City, Liverpool and Spurs I can honestly say I’m jealous of them.

Jose needs to change his ways or I fear this truly will be his last few months.

Really build a team around a player who had six ok games at the world cup, [it was actually kante, who done most of the work] for those who have forgotten the season consist of 40 plus games,

Pogba hogs the ball too much and as a result, kills the teams transistion, posistionally he's poor, to compound the issue, first choice centre back was injured and linderof, struggled with the pace of the premiership

What more can mourinho do, but play a compact game, [mata is fading, the only other creative in the team],
all mourinho's teams had deep lying playmaker and and lampard type of runner from midfield, pogba is no lampard, and being the teams playmaker does not really interest him.

Martial is not a winger or left midfield player or attacking midfield left, he see's himself as a striker, but with lukkaku as the main striker, his opportunities in that posistion will be limited, sell and get a backup striker for cover, the lost shouldn't be that major if rashford is what everybody says he's cracked up to be.

What seperates pogba, martial from sanchez, lukkau and matic, is inherently they are winners, they want to win, great pro's

As for this season things will be slightly better if the full back position can be sorted, and with perriara likely to stay and play as a 6 or 8, and freds arrival, midfiield, options will be better.

you could line up fred alongside perriara and linguard, and still have a good shape to the team, even herarra, fred and linguard or perriara. [4231 or 4321]

as you can see i have not included pogba[talented no doubt], purposely, because if he does not buck up his ideas, this season he will be in for a rude awakening, mourinho gave played him in a three towards the end of the season, and his consistency issues where still an issue.

As a family man i guess, living in manchester for two years and wife in london is an issue, think play saturday then mid week...

Our rivals already have their shit sorted out with their playing style. Any weaknesses in their squad they have/are addressing. All the other top five teams have more progressive managers (imho) at this moment in time, than Jose, who doesn't want to adapt. His negativity feeds down to the players and us the fans - that's not a good atmosphere for success.

We know how competitive top 6 is never mind top 4, yet we're still going into the season with our issues still not sorted out. I can't honestly see anything better than 5th at the moment. I will be overjoyed to be proven wrong, but logically, I just can't see it.

Interestingly my first instinct is we got worse as the season went on. But last 10 games versus first 10 wasn't wildly different in the league in terms of results.

First 10 games last season, 7 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss. 23/30 points

Last 10 games, 7 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses 22/30 points

Goals scored tells a different story
23 in first 10
15 in last 10
That said tiredness can be a factor, but we would have hoped Sanchez offset that at least. Would be interesting to see the difference in a parallel world without Sanchez.

Honestly I'm really starting to loose all confidence in Jose Mourinho, it's not entirely his fault though but he really does not help himself either. His overall persona has most definitely changed and he is constantly alienating himself from the fans which is something that isn't typical of Jose. He was and arguably still is adored at previous clubs like Porto, Chelsea and Inter for his perceived "us against them mentality" as well as his ultimate drive and ambition to win with them. However we have only seen limited glimpses of this here and his constant negativity is a problem for sure, especially when he surrounds the club with this.

Obviously his style of play isn't exactly admired either and I would argue it's an even worse brand of Football from how he used to have his previous clubs play. This isn't our identity, Mourinho was considered a "safe bet" when he was hired to get us back to winning major trophies. However since then we do not look close to doing that in my opinion despite the positive start he had where picked up two respectable trophies up in his fist season. Things really have stagnated recently in many ways and this of course if a major concern on many fronts.

However the board must also share some of the blame as well, not signing two major transfer targets in Jose's second season was a massive blow to his plans for that campaign. The lack of vision, direction as well as the ambition to truly compete is seriously hindering us and this also stems largely from the board. Of course the set backs have not helped further the club either especially when you consider the previous managerial appointments and the differing styles each manager wanted to play. But if the board truly wants to bring this club back to where it should be, investment combined with ambition and an actual vision of how we want to progress is certainly needed.

Still, considering all of this I do feel we are better off than most other clubs and have indeed been spoilt through the years with the pleasure of having the greatest manager ever and the success that brought. But we are Manchester United and we should always aspire to be the best regardless and I truly believe that. I also do hope I'm proven wrong on this, however I somehow doubt I will be and change may certainly be needed :nervous:

I agree that we need to sort our shit out and that we'll be fighting for top 4 this season, but I disagree on the 5th at best. Spurs are having a dreadful window and I dont see them improving at all, while Arsenal are a massive unknown but obviously have a lot of weaknesses that they dont have the resources to fix like others do. I do think we're definitely behind City, Liverpool and Chelsea (if they keep Hazard) though.

I just think a big part of our problem is our dire coaching. We have winners in our squad. All we need is to have a proper idea of what the hell we're trying to do playing wise, and proper execution. Manager and players should also understand and accept what United fans want to see.

Yet, I don't see how we're even trying to implement anything at all, and actually think any team we come up against with a solid idea of what they want to do, will probably beat us. Arsenal (even with a question mark) and Spurs may not have a squad like ours, but their managers know how to get the best out of what they have.
Coupled with the fact that our manager is not into motivating anyone it seems, then I really can see us doing quite badly. Don't underestimate how a bad atmosphere can affect performances.

I'm just super pessimistic because the manager is giving me nothing to be hopeful for to be honest.

Anyway, we'll see.

Oh, come off it, we have a shitload of money. Playing good football and getting into top 4 shouldn't be out of reach for any decent manager. Van Gaal managed to do it almost twice in the row just by boring the opposition into submission.

And what has the money done for our position in the league? Not much. Also LVG didn't play good football for about 95% of his time here, amazing the historical revisionism is around here when an agenda needs pushing.

I am a Jose supporter, but I tell you what, after watching the 2 pre-season games, Jose looks like he is completely out of ideas.
The last time I saw this in the December, 2 years back, when LVG lost/drew every match. The guy had no idea what to do and that was my turning point. I knew he was done.
I am now seriously worried that Jose has also reached that point.
What I found shocking yesterday was that the team we played had more shots on target than us and they are apparently bottom of their league.
Our attackers simply had no idea how to attack. It was like watching a chef who didn't know how to cook. Or a carpenter who didn't know how to cut wood.
If our attackers lack the skill to shoot the ball towards the goal, then Jose needs to teach them this most basic skill or sell them. Hanging on to these types of players won't see us win anything. Martial in particular was dreadful. A player who looked like was playing to get himself sold or benched.
We have scored 1 goal in our first 2 pre-season games.

And before someone says, "it's only pre-season". This argument does not explain what I saw yesterday. Our attackers literally had no idea how to shoot the ball towards the goal. Just because an attacker has 2 months off, it does not excuse him of what I saw yesterday.

We finished last season poorly and we have started pre-season exactly the same way.

We need Jose to get his mojo back and take complete ownership of the situation, because right now, it looks like he doesn't give a damn.
If I don't see change in the next few months, then I will be in the Jose Out brigade (and I never thought I'd even be thinking this - I want him to say with us for the next decade and win every single trophy there is to win).

Agree. The feeling I've had for sometime is Jose knows this is Hobson's choice as where does he go it this doesn't work out?
The issue I have is I still have absolutely no idea of what our style of play is. The other issue is the issues don't appear to be resolved and we are still talking about the same positions needed as we did when he arrived.

It all feels a little scary at moment and feels like we need a huge dose of positivity......You get the feeling is Martial another DB, Sallah or even Rom on Jose's CV.

Which is why he said...

I'm pleased to see that he's started pre season with the same burning positivity as before. It's almost as if we fans can be justified in our relentless negativity. I certainly feel that way. I think Mourinho's entire approach to managing this club has been pathetic and somewhat ungrateful.

The board will come in for stick (as per) for the lack of signings so far, but it isn't the board that thinks Valencia and Young are amazing full backs. It isn't the board that decided to buy Lindelof and realise they need to replace him within the year. It isn't the board responsible for coaching a football team that can't score goals.

This is the least excited I've ever been about a new season in my lifetime and I'm putting it largely down to Mourinho.

Agenda. My absolute favourite around here.

As for the money, it hasn't done much because it hasn't been wisely spent. I mean, more than half of our team in the FA Cup final against Chelsea was from Ferguson time. And apparently and according to most here, he left a squad on its last legs. There you have some facts to move away from historical revisionism. That I never did in the first place btw.

Sorry, what's money got to do with it?

Loads on here saying they want him gone. The only way for that to happen is to go on a horrendous run of form and lose out on the top 4.

That's kind of my point here. If people want him gone, be prepared to suffer the consequences

Feck, I just wish he stopped moaning all the time. There’s always something, just shut the feck up you miserable git, and do your job.

OK, so this is based on feeling. I bet you that if Jose finishes the season as our manager we will finish in the top 4. Tagline at stake.

I would have thought so myself, but I guess it's that the collective spirit in the fanbase went sour (I mean the difference in the Caf in September and March would have been gigantic), the unfulfilled expectations when Sanchez came, Liverpool doing well in the CL and City not relenting at any stage all probably contributed to our moods being terrible by spring when in the autumn we were still naive and innocent.

Has something happened? I've read the past couple of pages, nothing there. Do you all just post to complain?

His negative pre match comments about how broken our squad is, no identity whatsoever in our football, players starting to fall out of favour, also decides to publicly downplay Pereira's performance saying it was okay and he needs to be more simple on the pitch, instead of offering encouragement.

We didn't beat an MLS team in a pre season friendly

Think its much more simple than that. I ask people who enjoy the football we play to merely define it, put a tag on it.

I just don't get it.

Nearly every other team may marginally struggle at accumulating points in comparison to us but why do we have to be the team who doesn't have a style that can be counted upon every day of the week? We have more half passes coming off opponents shins than nice clear, clean passes that come with a plan.

I watched that press conference, you all are nuts. He said that the preseason was going to be bad without the senior players being there, what is that other than a statement of the obvious?
Re Pereira -- would you prefer it if Mourinho said that he was perfect in every way, didn't need to improve a bit?

I can't imagine that anyone truly enjoys the football so many on here complain about, as in: find it pleasing in itself.

It's more a case of certain (reasonable) posters not having anything against a more cynical brand of football as long as it brings results - and other (less reasonable) posters sticking up for Mourinho no matter what. And, lastly, there's the fact that we haven't actually been utter shite for ninety minutes on end in every match we've played under him. There have been examples of actual, effective counter attacking football - which is something United fans should be able to appreciate (not least after LVG's brand, which was pretty much anti-counter attack). In other words, some people will claim (rightly or not) that Mourinho's football isn't actually all that terrible when it's executed properly - at least not in situations where he does go for it (which he does - he doesn't park the bus all the time).

His problem per now is that United don't play his "good" brand of football very well (and certainly not on a regular basis) - and his "bad" brand won't ever be enjoyed by a majority of our fans.

He said he can count on one hand the players he's interested in for next season in the post match San Jose press conference, all whilst looking depressed and completely uninterested with the pre season all together, why is it "nuts" to call that negative? Re Pereira don't be daft, obviously offering advice for improvement is important but there's a time and a place. He's come back off loan, put in a strong performance and instead of doing the right thing and publicly supporting the effort, he chooses to call it "okay" and says he needs to play more simple. He is shit at man management.

Bit more positive..

I'm sure it'll be twisted into, "He has Matic waiting in the hotel so he can beat the piss out of Pereira and is shipping out young goalkeepers for David De Gea, who had a terrible World Cup! Terrible man management, Jose Out!!"

@luke511 so I’m not one to defend Jose although I’ve found myself doing it twice today even tho I want him gone, but I kind of agree with his assessment of Pereira. He could have praised him for the good things he did but having watched the game I totally see why he has mentioned simpler.

From Pereira point of view I would imagine he feels under pressure to perform Hollywood passes and be the one that is unlocking and causing the damage so that Jose notices him and puts him in. However last night he turned away from so many easy passes that opened up space for someone else to focus on trying to play a killer ball, when that easy pass to someone else creates the angle for them to play the killer ball. He also instead of allowing the team to come out from defence would often just rush it and ping a ball for Martial to chase but on getting the ball had no support as the team was still moving out from the phase of defending. He was rushing it instead of dictating the game. Sometimes the simple thing is the right thing to do so I totally understand what Jose meant by that.

However just seems he poorly executed what he was trying to put across but for all we know he’s possibly explained privately to Pereira what he meant by those comments.

You think he will be here if he finishes 4th and doesn't improve attacking play?
Yeah i dont think the board really cares about anything else. Dropping out of top 4 is the only one that has a significant impact on the financial standing of the club probably. They don't give a feck about style of play, and while it's nice to win the title, I dont think they are that bothered as long as we stay solid and keep our name as one of the big clubs worldwide (which of course will change in time if we keep failing).

Bar Pereira the midfield does look a little lost. Cant wait to have Matic and Fred back.

I’ve been a huge Jose fan. However his negative demeanour of late has me very worried.

Thinking this is the beginning of the end.
