With Martial,Rashford and Lingard rotated in.
 
I keep reading about Fred, but I don't really watch the Ukranian league. Can anyone describe what kind of player he is? What role will he play in a midfield with Matic and Pogba?
 
Seems to me like William and alderwereld would add lots of experience and quality without really splashing much cash. Martial isn't playing anyway.

Beyond that getting deals done for rb lb and whatever cm would be good business. I don't even think the cm necessarily has to be a starter if we still look to play a 10 most games.

Starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel here. We could go into next season with a very strong and experienced regular 11.

Yep hard to moan at those signings, both look a shrewd bit business. Big upgrade on both positions with premier league proven players.

Sidibe, Sandro, Alderweireld, Fred, Willian. That's the five I think we'll go for too, possibly Talisca instead of Willian. No need for another CM with Pereira coming back.

Don't think anyone will be able to get passed our right side with the aggressiveness and agility of Willian, Fred, Sidibe and Bailly. Imagine that compared to Mata, Herrera, Valencia and Smalling. :lol:

I’ve noticed people mentioning Pereira across the forum. I don’t get the hype. I get he is talented but doesn’t seem like a player that will settle in the EPL. Him leaving rather than staying said quite a bit and with all the injuries we had last year, he would’ve definitely got playing time.

I’m pretty certain he goes out on loan or just as likely gets sold. Team is looking to add 2 CMs... that would mean 6-7 midfielders already (Pogba, Matic, Herrera, Mata, McTominay, new CM, new CM). I just don’t see where he’d fit in and quite frankly think his time at United is over.

I believe so too. I think if we can do business like we're being tipped to do, we'll be a bit of a machine next year with no glaring weaknesses. We might not play like Barcelona but I think we'll be a lot better to watch.

Yep, the first step to becoming any sort of great side is to have balance first and foremost.

Hopefully these signings this summer bring that and we can build from it moving ahead.
 
My fear is not so much who we bring in, or the quality, but actual numbers.

I’d hate to think we end up only signing two players, possibly three.

CB: Samuel Umtiti £53m release clause.
CM/CDM: Lucas Torreira £35m.
RW: Paulo Dybala £115m.
Optional RB: Djibril Sidibe £40m. (The position with most players available for a reasonable amount: Sidibe, Joao Cancelo, Ricardo Pereira and Odriozola are all viable alternatives.)

Pereira, although a different type of player, is on a different level to the massively over hyped Mctominay. We need to give Pereira chance this year, we will regret selling him, he is a real talent.

Highly doubt we would spend that much and sell that many players. Too disruptive and far too risky to the current squad.
 
Some of the people in here are in full muppet mode, no way are we buying Willian, Talisca and Bale.
No way are we selling 7 or 8 players and bringing the same in, no way.

N'zonzi & Fred would be ideal signings to replace carrick and the disloyal Afro.

If we are to sign an attacking player, one will have to leave, and sadly that might be Martial.
 
Why are people doing math with concocted transfer fees? Is there a known transfer budget we are working under? Or is it that self consciousness about how much we spend?

Jose wants six signings. Don't come out short like last year - get them all for him. Doesn't matter what we pay; value in the market means jack sh*t .
 
I love silly season but TBH for the first time in forwever I am MEH about it all, does it really matter who we sign if we are going to employ such slow build up play, early part of the season when we were going toe to toe with city it was with Martial/Rashford down the left flank, Pogba + Lukaku down the middle, we actually played at pace, the speed we play at now means that more often than not we are facing 10 men behind the ball by the time we approach their penalty area, that is not down to the players it is down to the coaching.

I love Rashford and Martial, do not get me wrong they are both slightly over rated and underdone as yet, but they are both no use in our current system, both utilise pace, beating the last defender or stretched defence, they are never in a position to do this.

So who are we going to sign???? probably more of the same number 10's with no true width and no crossing ability and defenders to replace perfectly adequate defenders (I mean we are looking to sign defenders, cos that was our problem last season???) right now cannot say I am looking forward to next season regardless of who comes in, as they will have to retard their game in order to fit into Jose's system.
 
Fred and Fabinho would be excellent replacements for Fellaini and Carrick.

The squad is already disrupted/unsettled.
Mourinho at Chelsea 2004/2005 season: Bought 9 players, sold 14 players. Most of these players were either 1. 11 or playing regularly. Won the EPL and league cup, semi final in CL
Mourinho at Chelsea 2005/2006 season: Bought 5 players, sold 8 players. Won the EPL
Mourinho at Chelsea 2006/2007 season: Bought 6 players, sold 8 players, 2. EPL, Won League cup and FA cup, semi final in CL.
Mourinho at Inter 2009/2010 season: Bought 5/6 new players for the 1. 11, won Serie A, Coppa Italia and the champions league.

So the argument that many changes in the squad will be disruptive and risky, and potentially not bring success can be argued against. In fact, some of his best seasons have been when he has done major changes to the squad.

Very much doubt Dybala would want to come over here. If he came to the EPL, he'd probably want to go to City or Liverpool (if they could afford him). As it is, we're already balking at SMS for a lower price, so I doubt we'd bid for Dybala at that price. TBH, it would be good to see prices get a bit moderated.

Actually don't mind the other IN's, but I can't see Umtiti coming either. We've probably sounded him out, but I'd think net cost would be the same or even lower with Alderweireld (figure we're luring Umtiti with a crazy wage). Not that Alderweireld would be on a cheap weekly wage, but if Umtiti was cheaper and actually wanted to come, we'd have sorted it out by now.

Too many who would be expected to start though? One of those and bringing through a younger player, be it McTominay or preferably Pereira would be ideal. The squad feels bloated as it is for some reason, letting more go than come in but upping the quality with 4 or 5 cast iron 1st teamers and opening squad spots to youngsters is what I would like to see. RB, LB, one CM and a RW is what I would like. Toby as well if we can move Jones/Rojo on.

This was part of the initial aggressive investment period when Roman took over the club. A settled club shouldn't have the need to swap out that many players, especially when the manager is struggling to show that he can win with the players he has bought the past two transfer cycles.

Every player at the club has been/is on jose's naughty list though.

You cant blame a player for wanting to go out on loan after being given no gaurentee of first team action here. Periera wasn't too know we'd have all the injuries at the time. And he's done well over at Valencia.

We should sign one CM and use him next year

What’s different from Fellaini contract and Martial how he’s holding the club to ransom? Both are well within their right imo.

Yes, we shouldn't have that need.
But if the manager is not getting fired and this is the only way the manager is able to improve the club he is at. What other options are there?

He's obviously going to buy several players and we are going to lose a few. But we shouldn't expect that transfers are going to magically liberate us from the problems we've had over the past two years, which are more down to squad ethos and the players not galvanizing around Mourinho's tactics and managements style. Only Jose himself can fix that.

Dybalas price it not the issue, and he'd be interested at the same wage as Pogba.

Levy and his "tax" demands £75m. So with some haggling and Woodwards open checkbook, it will not be cheaper than Alderweireld. And yeah, Umtiti might just be using us as "new contract bait" from Barcelona, like all players are using us. For the same price, i would rather have Umtiti.

I think he’s been hamstrung with key positions much like city last year with their full backs. Once we have full backs capable of getting up and down and not just supporting but over lapping we’ll see more fluidity in our attack and will open options for our midfielders imo. Full back is the key but midfield and right wing are needing upgrades also. Will be interesting as that’s 4 positions and I think signing 4 is the top number we’ll sign maybe only 3 and with Jose looking at or rumoured to be interested in Alderweireld and Fred then that leaves both full backs and right back not touched and we have a big budget but not unlimited given we signed Sanchez in January.

I don't think that buying players will fix the problems we had. But it seems to be the managers viewpoint.
As for the problems we have had; As most problems and issues there are more than one side to it. Blaming it solely on the characher(s) of/in the squad, and them not going all in for Mourinhos tactics has some truth to it. And they certainly should show more "charachter" and be more cooperative toward his project.
Then again, this is a big part of the job a manager has, and only Jose can fix that. And therefore some of the blame is also on him.

Playing defensive football, with zero/little instructions/system/style on how to attack with young inexperienced attacking players... It is not like he have helped himself in this way. And maybe he should be flexible and adapt his tactics and manegerial style to the current squad, the situation the club is in and how the best teams in the world are playing? He is already very tactically flexible on how to mitigate the oppositions attack in big games, so he can be adaptable in some ways..

I agree with the latter but then I also think it leaves us thin if Pogba goes down. We all saw how meh we were without him.


I’d like to see Fred signing as well as Fabinho (DM who transitioned to RB) as emergency cover in case shit hits the fan and our midfielders begin getting injured.

Pogba, Fred, Matic / Herrera, Pereira, McTominay (Fabinho, Mata, Lingard?). It seems fine but on second thought when you take Pogba out of the equation it seems very iffy so I wonder do United take the risk? Yes Fred could cover as he’s capable of dishing out the ball but then it has a trickle down effect and same sort of thing as this past season

...why I’m torn if United should get Savic or not, as that is what would give us bonafide depth and we wouldn’t have to solely rely on 1 player (Pogba). Savic is similar to Pogba so would be forced in the lineup to fit but is that better than rolling the dice with Pogba being the sole dependant midfield source? That’s the million dollar question and what we’ll have to wait and see what the club decides on.

I’ve always felt we’ve been short in CM. I’ve felt this way since 2008 and it’s never been properly addressed. We are an injury away from being very weak in there as it is, I’d love more than anything for Pereria to be given a go but let’s face it the odds are against Jose doing that.
 
I see a lot of optimism in this thread. And some people are having FM-level of optimism (when you forcefully take over another club, and get them to buy your players).

Many of the players that we are trying to offload are not worth anything. We were lucky to get Everton to buy Schneiderlin off us for 20 million pounds, and even they don't like him over there and think that he is a bad purchase. I can see Blind going for around 15 million pounds (since he is a main player for the Netherlands national team), but I don't see Darmian going for the same amount of price or Shaw going for more than 20 million pounds. Both Blind and Darmian are not going to the World Cup, so their stocks won't rise, and their stocks are only declining since they have not been playing much at all. And we are dealing with Juventus, and Italian clubs are famous for low-balling for players from top leagues today. They are just gonna ask for 1 or 2 years of loan to drive the contract value down. Shaw has lost all his value long ago. Everyone sees him as a liability. He would be lucky to even find a club. And there is Rojo. He would be worth 15 to 20 million pounds but he just signed a new contract, and I don't think the club wanted to sell him.

We just have to do what Liverpool is doing by trying to play them. Either they become good and they come back to the first team, or sell them once the value goes up. Liverpool has a bunch of backup players from mainly Southampton that are of mid-table standard, like Moreno, Ings and Mignolet. I can see them selling them each for 15 million pounds since they do play on a regular basis.

I think we can only get 2 or 3 players. The full back positions remain a priority. I see only 1 RB/LB, 1 AM, and I CM, and that's about all.

I fully expect this to be the case in truth. I think we will see 3 come in. It isn't enough but I think that's what Jose will do.

To beat city to the title we need more than 3 players.
If Jose doesn't get this transfer window correct then he is gone by next summer and he should know that.
