Jordan Henderson | New Athletic Interview: I strongly believe that me playing in Saudi Arabia is a positive thing

Exactly, that's how it should be. We laugh at Sterling and Lingard when they're playing for their clubs but we don't stop seeing what they can bring to the collective unit. That's what a team game is.

In the middle we need Hendo, Lingard and Sterling fresh for the next two games if we're going to win the thing.

Sterling? Really?

I have said for a longtime now he is a good player.

He's clearly not world class but he is very underrated not just on here but in general.

Every manager he has played under have made him an integral part of their team he has a fantastic attitude.

Sterling? Really?

I hate the money grabbing overrated pilchard as much as the next fan. Probably more so. But if you don't see what he brings to the dynamic of this England team then there are other threads that have discussed this at large.

He looks a much better player when he plays the forward pass quicker.

He's been very good for us in that position of single pivot to the extent I'm dreading him getting suspended or injured in fear of having to play Dier there instead.

Suspension is no longer a worry, provided he doesn't get a red against Croatia, that is.

I hated Henderson and genuinely believed he was absolute toss before this World Cup. He’s completely changed my opinion. Works very hard and the best CM option England have. He’s absolutely vital to the team and has had a great World Cup.

Can’t wait to get back to hating him and thinking he’s toss in a weeks time.

A couple of good games against Europa League level players and suddenly he's the man for the job :lol: There's a reason why Klopp's busy buying his replacement this summer.

He's had a good tournament and if you can't admit that then you're biased. He's a decent player but the setup was never going to work when it came to the latter stages. He was playing as a one man midfield and even world class players will struggle with that.

He essentially was the England midfield. Scrote though he is, he had a good tournament. Especially given he isn't actually all that good at football.

He was absolutely terrible tonight, like a deer in the headlights. Every forward pass he tried was overhit or just out of play, touch was terrible. I've never really rated him, he always think he's better than he is with some of his attempted passes and shots. However, he was having a very good tournament till tonight. Maybe fatigue played a part.

He's a spoofer and he runs funny. He'll be on the come the end of the next season.

I don't get it, how was poor team selection, tactics and subs anything to do with Henderson? Southgate is a lovely bloke and I've really enjoyed watching England for once, but ultimately he's a Poundland Guardiola with no plan B.

Southgate had a plan A, that’s more than we’ve had since Hoddle, had he had a prime Scholes or even a prime Carrick I think that would have made the difference last night

He just doesn't have the vision / composure to be the deep lying playmaker.

Rushes his passes so much and any sign of pressure just lumps it forward. Can't ride a challenge, he just gets scared and passes it backwards.

I said it earlier in the tournament it was pretty obvious.

He did a good job defensively but for the progressive style England wanted he just isn't good enough for that role.

 When he was replaced? Adding to the squad and depth doesn't mean he's been replaced?

Ah yes they bought Fabinho and Keita to give Henderson a bit of rest from time to time. Henderson will be the one that will be a squad player.

He's a box to box player hasn't got the composure to play DM. He should be a squad player for us but Rodgers made him captain.

He tends to hide sometimes in games behind opposition players and he'll just point at other players to pass to. In his position you need to be comfortable on the ball you need to demand the ball. The amount of times he'll panic and just pass the ball back instead of turning with no players around him is shocking.

We didn't sign Fabinho and Keita to sit on the bench all season.

People say shite like this every season when new players sign. Liverpool need depth at CM and it's a squad game. Henderson will be a first team player next season and get plenty of games.

He's a testament to how crap their options are. He's energetic, that's his main strength. Everything else you could get a better midfielder in there (for club football anyway).

Fully expect him to be a rotational option at Liverpool this season.

You're right. We missed a trick in midfield, Wilshere should've gone or even Lewis Cook who are both more creative albeit still not ideal, the latter young and inexperienced. I'd have dropped Alli and we could've kept Henderson in that role.

If you’re going to hoof the thing, at least have some sort of idea who you’re hoofing it to.

May be a somewhat weird bump and timing, but I just wanted to say that I think he's a bona fide cnut.

The way he told Bernardo Silva to get up during the match this weekend, after the clearest second yellow of all times ... my god how my blood curdled

I agree but then I also think we need a couple of cnuts like that in our team to be honest. He’s a proper Gobby Charlton.

He is an overrated system type player. If it wasn’t for Klopp he wouldn’t be this “legend” of the club. You take him out of that Liverpool side and put him in any other club team and he doesn’t even look half as good.

Good on him, a captain that never forgets. He choose to act a cnut refusing to clap in the guard of honour out of all his teammates by sipping on his brew so he could go viral and look clever. He's a disrespectful little shit, and no matter how good he tries to get back in City's first team, they would offload him in a heartbeat like they nearly done in the summer.

Tbh I don't think it had anything to do with that, and more to do with the fact that Silva had made a fool out of him dribbling around in the first half.

I was surprised to hear some Liverpool fans saying he's not having a good season. Klopp's stuck him out wide at times and he's still been pretty good.

I do think he's a system player though as others have said. I think he'd be a much worse player under any other manager. I'm kind of interested to see how Wijnaldum does at PSG because that might be a similar situation.

He makes a mockery of the argument that we can't win things with our midfield.

He at least knows where to stand to get the ball so he can pass it to a teammate. A system player yes but has the physicality and mentality to play a role in a top team. I think DvB is potentially a better player but the rest of our options are nowhere near.

He’s got a top class mentality, and he’s a good leader, but he’s no better than the likes of McTominay on the ball.
