Jonny Evans is a red...

Yeah although I’d say 1 year at the very most. See how he does before offering another year. Hopefully we will have funds to bring in a starting CB next summer.

Also was Evans in the 2013 Utd title winning team?
He’s now the only player in our squad who has won the Premier League.

Amazing on how many fans seem onboard for this. He left the club after putting on some shocking performances because he had to be the main man in defence after Rio/Vidic declined and eventually left. Him looking nervy on the ball and getting ragdolled by any half decent physical striker was the norm. And, now at 35 people are okay with him playing 10-15 games a season? When will this club not fall for nostalgia again/nepotism?

Upgrade on Maguire.

1-year contract with a view to becoming a coach. Sign the contract in front of Maguire when he's back.

He was part of 3 PL title winning teams!

Who said he'll be playing 10-15 games? He's signed to play in pre-season

Always been a fan of Evans. Wouldn't mind him signing a longer contract to act as cover. Always thought it was strange he was sold. If he didn't come up in our academy and played for the likes of Sheffield United and Leicester at age 24-28, people would've made YouTube videos of him and clamoring for us to sign him for a big amount of money.

What a load of nonsense. Evan's had bad injuries at United and was in and out of the team. Never really had a proper long run at it. He went out to West Brom, where he did the hard yards, learned his trade amicably as a solid, ball playing defender. He stats back this up. Pep Guardiola tried to sign him for City in 2017 & 2019 but he stayed at Leicester where he was guaranteed first team football.

Bringing him in as 5th choice center back is a masterstroke, because he is the consummate professional and he wasn't exactly on the scrap heap, he was playing in the PL last season, and he is still Northern Ireland captain. If our youngsters cannot learn from someone who has played 500 professional games then we are in the wrong business.

Good luck Jonny and welcome back

Is this the shortest deal we have ever given someone?

Didn’t mind Evans when he was here. Good defender. His Mrs will be delightedly he is back. Personally thought he was going to sign for Celtic with Brendan now back there.

Prunier was here on a trial contract and only played two matches. Think he also declined to stay on further.

Because it makes sense. We have little budget, Evans even at 35 has proven he still PL quality over last few years, comes with load of experience and its to be 5th choice cover. It's' no big deal. Its just a preseason deal for now but we can move Maguire, this isn't the worst thing that could happen.

ETH is no fool, why would he give Evans a short term chance if he didn't see something. He has an academy filled with players he should look to rather than letting nostalgia get in the way. Maybe its to help him get a new team, but after the way they moved Ronaldo and DDG out of the squad I dont see ETH being all that sympathetic in this scenario.

“You’re Jonny Evans.” “Yes.” “You play centre back.” “Yes.” “I play centre back too.” “So?” “Well, are you better than me?” “Well, I never met you, but... yes.”

(I know they were at Leicester at the same time, but)

A fitting opportunity to post this quote from Roy Keane's The Second half:
"Jonny was a centre-half. He had the qualities of a Manchester United player, and he was bringing them to Sunderland. For such a young man – he was nineteen – he was very mature, and a born leader. Jonny was unbelievable for us. He lived with his mam and dad in Sale, near my home, so I picked him up there and brought him up to see the set-up at Sunderland.

"I knew I was on a winner; I knew him, and I knew what he was about. I remembered an incident when I was still at United; there’d been a fight in the canteen and Jonny had looked after himself well – I think he knocked the other lad out. I knew Jonny was tough."

So... Who do we reckon eventually will get decked by Evans from the current squad?

A new message for Harry? I hope the 50 mil price tag quoted is bs and he moves asap as 3-5 more players.

When De Gea left he was the last Manchester United player that had a league title with United.

Until today when Evans stepped through the doors at Carrington.

Always rate Evans higher than Maguire, even back in his time at Leicester and when Maguire joined us for record fee.

I get the jokes but these three are the best performers at CB between the Rio-Vidic and Varane-Lisandro eras. The likes of of Rojo, Bailly, Maguire or Lindelof don't even match the former three's average level.
If we're talking Maguire's and Bailey's average levels versus those three then ai might agree with you but I'd argue both Maguire's and Bailly's early spells in the side were better than anything we saw from Evans, Jones or Smalling on a consistent basis.

Genuine shame that Bailly was so injury prone (would say the same about Jones to be fair) we he was brilliant in his first season. Maguire's confidence just seems to have gone entirely.
