He was excellent again. He doesnt have any trouble when the ball is on the ground at all. But with Rio and Evans we do miss Vidic full spectrum dominance of the air!!

That moment when he decided to appeal for offside and stop playing could have been very costly.

I thought Torres bullied him today. How many times did Torres take down a ball from a goal kick/long punt upfield and manage to bring it down and pass it? Plenty.

To be fair, Torres does that a lot even to Vidic. He's deceptively strong, and defenders have to be very careful about making the challenge as his combination of speed and strength can see him go through behind them.

Evans did some very good things today, but overall he wasn't as good as he has been over the last month.

Today's game aside, I ask the same question - has he vastly improved in any way since last season, or has he just been shuffled down behind DDG, 'the missing CM' and the Glazers in the scapegoat order?

I think he's been excellent this season on the whole with injuries factored in.

Nice to see him do well.

If he cuts down his customary mistakes per game he could be top class, which he is doing tbh.

I'd agree that he's stronger than most give him credit for, but the last few games against Vidic he has been back pocketed. Can't keep bringing up that one incident years ago.

Really don't want to bring Vidic up in an Evans thread btw, and I think it's clear that he is playing better with a string of games behind him.

I think so too, I used to worry when I saw he was playing, now not at all. The combo of Evans & PIG used to keep me up at night.. with Vidic, Ferdinand, Evans, Jones & Smalling we're extremely fortunate in that department. I'd say that perhaps now Ferdinand is arguably the most dispensable, being overtaken by Evans when you also consider their ages.

what was he doing when he was ball-watching allow torres through on goal? that was horrendous.

He was calling offside because someone was offside, funnily enough. Still, play to the whistle and all. There was another one within a few minutes of that where he inexplicably just gave it to Torres, caught in two minds between laying it off to Rio and just bringing it down himself.

Brainfarts.

Doesn't he look confident now, though? Love to see that happen, a player getting over a few self-doubts. Changes them completely. Not the only factor, but has happened with Tony and Carrick too at various points this season. Hopefully Sunday will help DeGea make the same leap.

Yeah, his confidence is the real difference from last year. He's surely got the backing he needs from Sir Alex and the staff for his performances this year. Glad he doesn't base his opinion on himself on what is being said at the Caf!

I'm sure he'll be a popular scapegoat for years to come, but for me his blip last season was just that, a blip, and he's now showing why we placed such thrust in him.

For all the chopping and changing of our back four, and the unstable goalkeeping situation, I think Evans has done brilliantly.

Been outstanding but to be fair he's had a generally very good season.

he has been excellent this season, a huge improvement from last year.

considering that vidic has been out for a while now, and rio is struggling a bit, huge credit has to be given to jonny.

He was fantastic, especially first half, won every header and 50/50 ball. I've always supported Evans, the stick he's gotten on here has been so over the top at times.

Some positive comments from Michael Cox now, who was at the game today

-Really impressed by Evans today. Positionally excellent, thought he dealt with Suarez then Carroll very well

-Also interested how much Evans was directing Ferdinand, pushing him up pitch. Had a go at Rooney late on too. Much more confidence

He's been good all season. Not sure why people are just realizing.

But today he was exceptional.

Since he got his white shoes, his game on the ball has improved.Very good match

It's true, the white boots have suddenly made him look like an extremely cultured ball playing defender.

Evans has been great this season, no denying he had a poor season last year but he's back to his best this term. His talent should never of been doubted.

Continuing to make certain posters in this thread look like fools. Awesome performance.
