Jonny Evans | 2011/12 Performances

All that said, if we could fecking pass we wouldn't be having this conversation. The signs were there in the first half where we defended well but in the second we were just overwhelmed.

I missed the last 10mins so didn't see the Mata incident or the Chelsea onslaught but I thought he was excellent. He and Rio held it together for us whilst everyone infront of them folded.

Hmm, looking at it again Jonny doesn't cover himself in glory, he is a bit flat-footed

But it's hard to legislate for those two world-class touches

Anyway, De Gea saved it and, so in the grand scheme of things it Juan Mata

Yeah it was poor defending, tries to get too tight and completely sells himself. But as you say, it is brilliant from Mata so I wouldn't be too harsh on him.

I thought he for the most part played well, particularly in the first half. Made quite a few very good clearing headers at one point. Judging from the second half I think lots of our players could uses a bit of a rest, or at the very least a bit of time to get the Madrid game out of their systems.

FFS he pulled across to Ramires at the last moment from another man as he was left with two, he was moving to his left to get into a covering position and a very quick attacker at pace shifted to the other side. He couldn't get any closer as it was a break and Ramires was breaking from the middle. It's not like he was marking him. If you blame him for that goal then your clueless mate.

You can't even admit that Evans made any mistake with that Mata's chance. Just watch that video by Cevo. I said it all along; poor positioning, poor defending. But you're in denial. If there's a clip for Ramires goal, you'll see that you're wrong again.

Hard to discuss anything (negative) about Evans with you, mate. I'm wondering why.

The Mata thing was just Mata being absolutely brilliant as usual.

but dont you know that United centre halves are not allowed to be beaten by a peice of skill ever?

I dread to think what the comments would have been on boards like this when Maradona dribbled around the English team on his way to that goal

Jonny shouldn't have let Mata get into that position to finish....he got mugged really. The thing is it's very hard for our central defenders to be flawless for 90 minutes when the players in front are so fecking useless in preventing the opposition exploiting time & space. Evans should not have been dealing with that situation in the 90th minute against a player of Mata's calibre. The pass should not have been allowed to be made in the first place. Doesn't completely excuse his defending but the most effective defending is preventative.....not reactive.

He was for the most part very accomplished yesterday....as was Rio. In the first half there was a 2-3 minute spell where Chelsea were throwing everything at them and it just came back out....Jonny in particular was on the fecking money. I have been critical of him in the past but he is a pleasure to watch when on song.

Think £12 million was the rumour at the time as well. Also he was clearly up for todays game when he came on and did well

Thought the Sland crowd were great today when Evans and Welbeck came on. Very class to give the lads such a warm welcome.

Evans was well up for this, some of his runs were WTF worthy.

He really has become such a fantastic player. Not just defensively, but how comfortable he is bringing the ball out of defence and getting attacks going.

WTF was he doing running up from the back to give Valencia an option down the line in the 90th (ish) minute.

His last game was the 1 - 0 win at Sunderland when he came on for Rafael. Hope he plays in these last few games, had a great season.

Where is Jonny Evans ?

He was injured for a couple of weeks, but it seems like Fergie's gone back to preferring Vidic-Ferdinand anyway. I don't think it's deserved at all, even if Rio's form has picked up massively since Christmas, but at this point it doesn't really matter, as long as Evans is the starter next season.

Very odd that the Smalling/Evans/Vidic/Ferdinand rotation has been cancelled in the favor of Vidic/Ferdinand. I don't think we perform better with both of them on the pitch compared to when we rotated and now our up and comers are missing out on experience.

He was injured upto the West Ham game from the Sunderland game.

So he's only missed 1 game since and that too when he was just returning.

Yeah, he was injured for couple of weeks. If he is fit for tonight, I think he will start.

Has had a great season. The return of Vidic + his injury shouldnt overshadow that.

Terrific defender.

It has for a lot of people. You only have to look at the players of the year thread to see how much short memories there are to when Jonny does good compared to when he does bad.

I hope he plays tonight. I don't fancy the thought of Benteke, Agbonlahor and Delph running at a Rio-Vidic partnership.

What kind of injury does he have? Seems like this niggling injuries is the reason he can't bulk up a lot more. After Vertonghen, he's the best ball playing defender in the league.

Our distribution from the back is ridiculously better with him playing.

He really makes a difference bringing the ball out from the back. You only realise when he's not there for a bit and something is missing.

I'm one of Jonny's biggest fans, it's incredible that we have Vidic, Rio, Jones, Evans and Smalling for CB. Feels like we have to let somebody go soon and that might very well be Rio. Jones is full on ready to be a first-team regular, Evans is good enough as well.

I am surprised he stayed on for the full game. Wasnt he supposed to come off in the first half after the half hour mark? Good to know it wasnt anything serious and he will be available.

Only Carrick (95) made more passes than Evans (70) tonight and he competed 94% of them. Impressive for a CB shows how involved he was.

Has there been any mention anywhere about what was wrong with Jonny last night in the first half? It appeared as though he was signalling to the bench that he couldn't see properly.
