John Stones | Done Deal

Chelsea had a lucky escape last year when Everton turned down £40m for Stones. FORTY MILLION POUNDS. I dont care how much you try convince me, he is not worth anywhere near it, in a million yrs.

Got to love when ITK on twitter whatever say like "was done months ago" No it wasnt. Shut up lying. Who the feck manages to keep a £30-40m transfer or whatever completely secret. Idiots. Someone will find out, like your pretend ITK buddies.

Same as that Spanish fella reporting tonight about it, he wont have the foggiest. He has probably heard that Barca aren't Stones first option and put 2 and 2 together and linked him to Pep and City and decided they're his next club. feck me, i could write transfer gossip :D

Last season, Manolas, Koulibaly and even Mustafi were better than Stones. It's a big concern that Stones was error prone, but the season before he showed a lot of potential. Next season, he could improve or stay the same.

So, would you prefer to sign Stones or someone else between Manolas, Koulibaly or Mustafi?

I just don't see him developing into a great player. We rave about him because he is good on the ball but what about his actual defending? Add the fact he is British so his price doubles and you might as well look outside the PL to get someone with just as much potential for half the price.

This reminds me of signings like Henderson £20mil and Lallana £25mil who are supposed to be these great hopes for English football and are, quite simply, bang average.

Our transfer policy should be simple. Name the 5 best CBs in the world and get one of them. I know it is not that simple but if we can't sign someone world class we might as well develop players like Fosu-Mensah rather than shell out on players like Rojo

He'll do well in Guardiola's system. When you have 90% possession defending is not the most important skill in your CBs.

Great news. Hopefully city also sign Barkley, in their quest of assembling the most overrated young English players.

Would be great if City sign Stones. Double win:

1. We won't sign him
2. He's a bit crap in defending.

Dele Alli ?

He comes under the 'not done enough yet'
If he does better next season, then he's worthy of the hype.

Problem is, the hype about a player is right like 1% of the time.

Plus if Utd went for him asking price would be 40-50mill.
Not worth that yet.

i think Paddy is just as good as him. Never saw the big deal with him and was laughing at chavs wanting him for 30 mill. Hes decent but i dont think he is better than TFM or Even Paddy, But thats just one mans opinion

I prefer the MUTV Paddy in our defense than Paddy Mcfail

and I would rather Paddy Mcfail in our defence than John Stoned

That's stupid.

I am not a big fan of Stones. Not that I would mind having him in defense but simply because I don't believe he's worth half the rumoured fee. However there's a big gap between Stones and that poor excuse of a defender.

English press reporting he turned down Barca had me in fits of laughter. The headline even said he turned down £90K a week, well maybe he chose City because they're giving him the wages he wants.

It wouldn't strike me as strange to find out that is actually true. A lot of English players are afraid to go outside their comfort zone and play abroad.

not in my View. I honestly don't see the big deal in stones. perception is a hell of a thing. And media make him out into something he truly isn't in my view. If stones was our player I can bet most would have the same things to say about him as they do paddy McNair.

I agree on Stones. However he's much better then 1 big mistake per game Mcnair. Its like comparing Silvestre with Prunier

Alli is absolutely superb. He has done a lot more than Martial and we don't question whether he is overhyped or not.

What's strange about that? I would say 90%+ of players from the UK and ireland would choose a top PL club over any foreign club. Bale was the tragic exception.

How much more has he done?
Statistically they're pretty similar.
Then you consider Utd had one of the most lethargic attacks in the league and Spurs had one of the best..
Martial has pretty much carried Utd along with De Gea this season.

So I'm not entirely sure how hes done a lot more..

Sure my point applies to both Martial & Rashford. They need to continue with this form!

Allis an excellent prospect could be world class could drop, like Barkley, Stones, Sterling and about 100 other English players regarded as the next best thing in the past decade.

True that, English players are often hyped up as potential world beaters far too early, and it only really serves to increase the pressure and expectation placed upon them to unrealistic levels. Hardly that surprising that they usually fall below those early expectations. Stones is by far and away our best future prospect, but he is being judged too harshly as if he is an experienced CB. He is young, and will make mistakes while he learns his trade.

Rio was no different, he was often criticised for ball watching and getting caught out of position, but with experience he clearly learned from his early mistakes and became world class. I would take Stones in an instant at OT, I think he is potentially top class, but the ridiculous overpricing of English talent will probably rule it out. Varane may be far cheaper option.

Depressing if we have to spend anything over £40m for him. Chelsea were offering that last summer and if anything he's regressed this season and is not looking like playing for England at the Euro's either. Missing out on Laporte and Everton's new owner though will mean he does not come at all cheap, not that he was going to anyway.

To turn around and spend that on Stones after trying to sell the notion of deeming Laporte not worth the money might result in Oxford English Dictionary updating the definition of hilarious.

Everton are in such a strong situation given their new found wealth and with City's likely desperation given yesterday's news. If he does leave I don't see them accepting anything less than £50m which is a ridiculous figure.

And then Savic, Boateng, Lescott and Toure before those.
He only asked for 5 years, not since the Arab takeover :)

Bar Kompany ( Otamendi and Demichelis to an extend), their CBs are pretty meh.

9 years (counting the current transfer window). Use the link I post above.

ADUG took over at the end of the Summer '08 window so doesn't really count. They've been in control for eight 'main' transfer windows (counting the current one).
