I'd say, he's similar to a Xavi type i.e. high volume passer, always showing for the ball whereas Mainoo is more Inesta i.e able to jink past players and do the unexpected but still good in possession. Not a perfect comparison but still good I think. Where I'm going with this is that we'll need a "big" behind them that's decent on the ball but also physical and athletic enough. Don't ask me what we do with Bruno.
Be interesting to see how Toby Collyer progresses? This is how I see it. Get him in this summer, and hopefully have ourselves in a position where we can spend big on Wharton next summer if we don’t need much else (assuming he continues to improve next season).

His price won't be impacted. He's a "release clause or nothing" player, so it's 120m or you don't get him.Very frustrating knowing nothing can be properly negeotiated until after the Euros by which time he could have had a great tournament and interest from other clubs comes in + his price sky rockets.

Spoiler, we won't get him.
Probably just a euro vs pound differenceDidn't it already come down? It started at 120M and down to 90M or something from last rumors.

Shades of Roy Keane. Smaller version of Declan Rice. Bit of John McGinn. Bit of Rodri. Bit of Verratti.

The no 8 in 433 is different to no 8 in diamond formation.I'd be happy for us to move away from the 4-2-3-1 with him in it and adopt the 4-3-1-2 ala Madrid.
Onana
Dalot - XXX - Martinez - Shaw
Neves - XXX - Mainoo
Bruno
Hojlund - Garnacho
I'm actually not particularly advocating his signing, and was weighing in more on how to best use him in conjunction with Mainoo if he was in the squad. Both players invite questions and obviously Mainoo will be an integral part of what everyone is envisioning our future midfield to be - so unfortunately I don't think you are going to get unanimous calls for a particular player or exact type of player to line up alongside him.
Keeping it simple, buy a defensive midfielder. Kobbie is pure silk - compliment him with grit. Aggression, tenacity, physical power. And he's an 8, so pair him with a 6.
That's a short term look at building a team. We already know we're not going to be amazing next year. Just getting him improves us though compared to our midfield options this past season. So even in the short term it's an improvement. However, you don't always have to solve every issue United have in a transfer window. As long as you have a plan that we will solve that in the following transfer windows, it should be fine.Yes, then I think we agree. Your last line there sums it up for me. Wonderful as Neves might well be, we simply aren't in a position to spend that kind of money on any player this summer, let alone one who isn't the obvious uncomplicated 'right answer' to play in the same XI as Mainoo and Bruno.

The balancing act can be done. I don't like thinking of it as impossible. The club management just has to be smart.
Much more combative against Sweden for those trying to ascertain his CDM credentials. Nice bit of tapping up by Bruno at the end:
He still looks raw getting disposed a couple of times and losing a couple of battles but there’s definitely talent there.
I'm convinced that him and Mainoo would be able to play in a double pivot.
Looks like a 60M player at best, and a risky one at that. Very raw and lost the ball in dangerous areas of the pitch. I didn't see the aura great midfielders have. Kobbie has shown flickers of it. Only 1 match though - I'd love to see more of him in the Euros.
I cannot see a midfield trio of Kobbie, Neves and Bruno working defensively, though.
