He's distinctly playing DM tonight. Holding position and not using his CM traits.
The notion he can't play DM, well it's evidently false.

Excited to watch him tonight. Sorry to the Irish lads in advance.
Nah. The long ball. That was Ronaldo
Don’t be silly they can’t play together.
Was more the revelling in his good performance. nothing personal! As am I and sure we (Ireland) know we haven't hope.
Like Anderson attacking the space? His ability to suddenly burst forward and play a pass at the end of it completely alters the pace of play.
Oh man, he attacked the space like noone else, didn't he?Like Anderson attacking the space?
Boss: attack the spaceLike Anderson attacking the space?
Yup!Oh man, he attacked the space like noone else, didn't he?
Oh yes Ish! Those were definitely the days!Boss: attack the space
Those were the days!
I think even at a lower fee there is too much financial jiggery pokery needed to justify another PL club coming in for him.
You also have to consider the Portuguese contingent we have at the club too, the clear openness to play youth, and the opportunities our midfield options creates for him to play a significant starting role.
Big up to Boss, but yes. Neves eats up the ground so quickly whilst keeping control and maintaining his balance.Like Anderson attacking the space?
I'm of this opinion, and I don't think it's this big issue to have him at base of midfield in his first season if we can't afford a dedicated DM on top of purchasing him.75m and I'm happy honestly. Don't really care if he doesn't "fit" right into a 2024 starting XI, him and Mainoo is a foundation you build an entire squad around and win titles. Especially with how young he is, people are foolish to wonder about how he "fits" into next year's team.
Any smart agent is going to hold out until after the Euros, unless a City, and their dodgy dealings, come in and secure him before the tournament.Every big club is tracking this player so the chance of a free run is very low. Mendes is also his agent and no mug so he will have a very good understanding of the market.
My strong suspicion is that he won't move until after the Euros but I don't think his Euro performance will matter that much. The clubs with the funds to potentially buy him and potential interest in a central midfielder this summer (United, City, Arsenal, maybe Bayern or Liverpool) are not clubs likely to be swayed that much by performance in an international tournament.
At the end of the day, I think United's best chance of buying him is if Benfica actually hold to the release clause or close. Because if the true price is substantially lower, a club currently more attractive than United to the player is probably going to get involved.
Is he more defensive than Mainoo? Think we need a solid number 6 and don’t think we can get both if we pay the money for this guy.
He should be signed. Bring him in with a proper DM. We can use Bruno as a false 9. We would also have the option to rest one of Mainoo or Neves and play Bruno as part of the midfield three. We'll still have Højlund as an option. Plenty of games for him. It's a very flexible approach.

Throughout the course of a PL campaign, he'll get loads of minutes as a CM anyway as Mainoo's got no business completing a whole midfield campaign at his age. The two of them would see solid rotation outside of playing alongside one another.
Me too. He can cover many roles for us in midfield, which makes the price tag more doable.I'm convinced that him and Mainoo would be able to play in a double pivot.
Amad hopefully tooNeves, Garnacho, Mainoo and Hojlund could make our future look the brightest its been in over a decade.
Nowtradamus has spoken.
How often have you watched him play?
Now he's staying, welcome Joao then?INEOS are still faffing around deciding if they can replace Ten Hag. Possibly ruining our chances of signing great talents like Neves this summer. It's a shame.
I'd be happy for us to move away from the 4-2-3-1 with him in it and adopt the 4-3-1-2 ala Madrid.
Onana
Dalot - XXX - Martinez - Shaw
Neves - XXX - Mainoo
Bruno
Hojlund - Garnacho
Both can play anywhere in midfield to a high level, Neves looks a little more physically ready for the combative midfield role right now.Me too. He can cover many roles for us in midfield, which makes the price tag more doable.

Wouldn't surprise me if we splash out on the lad. Not seen much of him, but hear good things, and Sir Jim, despite him not having a say in our signings, seems to think we need a ''Paul Scholes''. Therefore, I can only imagine, from the outside looking in, he, along with other fans, feel we need a ball playing midfielder, who can control the game.
He and Mainoo as a double 6 pivot would be amazing. Problem is, ten Hag no longer plays that way.
If “Sir Jim” is calling the shots we’ll be no better under him than Woodward. From when Sir Jim was asked if there's one player United need and he responded with 'Paul Scholes', I had a feeling the club would target him.
Nowhere near a done deal but you'd imagine it gives us an indication of the type of midfielder ten Hag wants?

Not seen too much of him to be honest just a few YouTube clips and yeah, looks tidy, but I would like to think/hope he’ll have no say on who we go after and let it be down to the “experts” he’s invested heavily in to make those decisions.I don't think he is. I just find it interesting how he, along with plenty of others, have stated that we could do with a ball player and it now seems we are targeting what could prove to be an elite ball player in the future. Yes, we have Mainoo, but someone who has that long range passing that Mainoo doesn't quite possess but Neves has in abundance. It would make for a great partnership, although some would argue it could be too lightweight.
