I agree with you in that however; the one thing I will mention is look at the teams that play with a No. 10. They have 2 out and out holding players, we have Paul Pogba who does a No.10 role playing deep. This is the reason Lingard gets in this team, I agree he can offer more in assists / goals but the criticism is beyond me. Fans on here who just look at numbers rather than the in game contribution.

If we didnt have Paul Pogba, I am sure we would go a different style, James Madison in the hole with a defensive minded CM alongside McT.

Madison plays with 2 holding mid behind him
Mount plays with 2 holding behind him

I think Pogba will go more than likely next season. So we should use that money to buy a MF and a new 10 like Maddison IMO. I am not saying i want Pogba gone, but more than likely he will push for a move. I think ole wants to get one last season out of him like Ferguson did with Ronaldo.

Don't be so sure, as it stands atm we're sacrificing playing Pogba further up the pitch to accommodate for Lingard playing as a #10.

We are not. You realise who plays as CM if Pogba isn’t? Besides Pogba played well.

If we want a CAM, the answer isn’t internal. Fred won’t cut it, Lingard definitely won’t, Mata is past it and Gomes won’t get the chance as things stand. Should have signed someone.

Yes we are. We're limiting his offensive imput to a long pass behind the defense lines here and there and an odd run with the ball. He's playing nowhere near the box from where he's the most dangerous, where he can send a final pass, shot, make things happen.

We can play a MF trio with MCT and Fred playing behind the Pogba. Fred at least has some creativity in him and iirc he was very good in winning the ball back last season. Anything really just so we don't have to suffer Lingard as a starter because running as his only strength isn't enough.

20 year old right back Trent Alexander-Arnold got 11 PL assists last season.

26 year old 'attacking' midfielder Jesse Lingard has 10 PL assists in his entire career.

Been saying it for years, he's nowhere near good enough for Utd, not even as a squad player.

You describe him like he's the new Herrera. Everyone in this squad can press in the opponent half since Ole has fixed the fitness problem.
He's not a CM, #10 should be given to the most creative player on the pitch not the hard working one.
Would you put Gatuso as #10 intead of Kaka?

Pogba was given the No. 10 last season. He done well then teams realised that you can mark him out the game.

And with Gatuso, that is just a very silly argument because they are clearly 2 different players.

If you look at this Manutd squad there is NO midfielder who can get the ball up to Pogba if he is No. 10. And again if you were a Manutd supporter, you will see that Ole likes counter attacking, this means sometimes playing balls over the top. I.e Chelsea game, and there is only one player in the squad who can even see that pass let alone make it. Also, there is always space for a CM to go forward like Pogba did for the penalty. he cannot arrive late or drive with the ball if he is playing No. 10.

How have I described Lingard like Herrera? Lingard can connect players - please watch some football.

I agree on both counts. Once Pogba leaves, we need to replace him with two players. But its slightly annoying where everyone wants Pogba to play this No. 10 role and Lingard to be dropped. We have seen Mata, Perreira in that role, they haven't worked. The one thing about Lingard is he will get the ball and move it.

I have full trust in OLE that he will soon realise this guy is just waste of everyone's time. He lacks quality and looks so lost on many occasion. He is 26/27 and should be the leader of the pack but he is just there to joke around. James in his short career has shown more leadership than him. Sooner or later his time is up here.

Hoping he gives Gomes his chance on Saturday against Palace, a run of games he could easily become a fixture in the side, has everything you want from a No. 10 and says it all that Barca/PSG are sniffing around him.

Lingard/Pereira/Mata for me not good enough for our No. 10, especially if we aspire to challenge the top sides at home and abroad.

Hopefully Gomes get's his chance this weekend, poor decision from Ole last night to bring on Mata, game was far to quick for him, think he had about 7 touches and lost it on three or four occasions.

Pogba for me is playing very well in that deep lying CM position, can see him and McTominay growing into a solid partnership with Gomes in front and then the pace around them, happy to go with that personally.

Become another Rooney situation.
You mean in the sense where people come up with argument such as "silent domination" to justify his inclusion? Because if that's what you mean then you that's spit on and a way to discribe his situation.

People are coming up with these pressing, movements and other non tengible argument to try hiding from the fact that he isn't the quality player we need.

Shoehorned into the team because of his standing on social media, the club uses his presence to make money :wenger:

Worst player on the pitch, normal. 1007 minutes without a goal or assist for United now. We'd be much better if Gomes or Greenwood could get a run of games instead of this virus, but Smeagol loves his precious. @GifLord can you please post Lingard trying to control the ball at 48:something and his miss at 49? It's a good laugh.

This one?

What is he? We have the same problem wherever he plays.

He is rubbish and needs to be moved on.

We're not going anywhere if Jessie fecking Lingard continues to be a key member of our starting 11.

Said it in another thread but against the big sides/Wolves/Leicester you're going to need to have players in the midfield that offer more on the ball than he does. He's excellent at creating space and creating things with his movement but on the ball he's not good enough to get by unless it's teams lower down in the league unfortunately. Good squad player to have but shouldn't be starting.

Should let him go to Everton for 30m.

Not a fan of his by any means but there has to be a confidence issue without a goal, assist or any meaningful contribution for so long now. Ole should take him out for his own good for a while to find some form in the reserves.

There was a moment in 74th or 75th minute where he had the ball and we were breaking forward and he could have easily passed it to James who had acre of space but he passed it to AWB who then passed to James and by that time the counter got killed. These are small things that he doesn't do correctly. It is also clear for some reason his confidence looks short and for a limited player like him it is a huge blow. Lingard without confidence is a horrible player to have.

I’m sure the bloke on sky sports just said he hasn’t registered a goal or an assist in 2019. Is that right?
redefining the role of an attacking midfielder. According to transfermarkt he has one goal one assist in 2019. 1 x assist vs Burnley (league) and 1 x goal vs Arsenal in the FA Cup. This covers 18 appearances including this season. its just not good enough.

The assist against Burnley was him winning a penalty.

I suppose that counts as an assist.

Because we're quick to trash on Lingard when he creatively wasn't much worse than some others. Creatively yeah poor but he was getting about the pitch extremely well and pressing tremendously. Obviously that's not obvious to certain fans and they only get a hard on if they see a goal or assist.
We literally have ONE player in midfield that can create. Having these runners isn't gonna cut it. Pogba needs more than just runners, especially ones with ZERO end product.

No Madison plays with 1 holding midfielder and another ball playing CM box to box exactly how lingard does. Tielemans isnt a holding mf

My Mistake, they play 4-3-3 with Chowdry and Ndidi and Tielemans.

This guy is just some sort of weird defensive version of an attacking midfielder. He never is and never will be good enough to be the creative fulcrum of a top team.

If he played as the 10 for any of our rivals we'd laugh. He poses barely any threat as opposed to demanding the ball constantly and prodding and probing as a 10 should.

Replace Jesse with Maddison and sign Sancho in next window. That would be Another step forward

Yes okay deal done. Do you realise how hard those deals are? Sancho is being lined up by Liverpool etc.. if we dont get Champions League, he isnt going to come to us.

Look at the Maguire deal, so simple.

Maddison is a UTD fan and Maguire can inspire him to join us and Sancho is keen on UTD if we are in champions league !

Not easy but possible

It's been a terrible calendar year so far for Lingard. If you look at his stats they're not kind.

843 minutes in the Premier League
11 Shots, 4 on target, 0 goals
7 Keypasses, 0 assists

He therefore produces a key pass every 120minutes! For a creative player that is... shocking. He isn't even a goal threat either with his 4 shots on target (thats a shot on target every 210mins).

His socks are rolled low like a number 10 though. I’d love to know the thought process he had when he decided to start doing that haha.

I agree those 2 would be ideal but it all hinges on Champions League.

Like Ashley Young he is going to stay here until 35 and play on the RW or AM position. There have been 3 managerial changes yet he is always in the first team. Might as well accept it.

I had a dream that Gomes makes his debut , impresses and takes Lingard's spot in the team permanently this season. Hope that becomes true.

Haha I noticed that and asked my mate if Lingard is supposed to be our Rui Costa. Strewth!
