Everton player in 2 years time? I can't see him leaving next season.

Fergie used to turn Everton level players into reliable squad options all the time. The problem is that he’s not a squad option in this current side, and he doesn’t expect to be either.

He’s a weird fish. A confidence player whose been allowed to become too confident. He thinks he’s a much better player than he is, and as a consequence, when he frequently fails to reach that level, his confidence-dissonance goes haywire, and falls through the floor. Whereas if he was aware of his actual level, and given the right amount of confidence to play to it, and within it, he’d be the effective and occasionally mercurial squad option he should be.

But alas, we’ve given him the confidence to think he’s a top tier talent, and he’s going to get less and less confident the more he realises he isn’t.

Walcott was miles talented than this clown and that’s saying something. He wouldn’t get in Everton ahead of him.

The issue with his miss wasn’t the technique (or lack thereof) of the airshot itself, it was that he’d already given up on the play as soon as the first pass went behind where he wanted, and was already throwing his arms up and whinging rather than being alert to a ball that was still very much in play... That’s what caught him off guard when Rash (who was being alert) got the ball back in... he was mentally unprepared for it. Which frankly, is lazy schoolboy stuff.
Great post, little loss of focus like that inside the pen box has big consequences. Our players are just way too self absorbed

In light of this absolutely terrible stat for a, what is he, 27 year old, how much do people feel Lingard offers outside of the final third? His movement is pretty good but again, it's mostly a final third thing. Unlike somebody like Park, a genuinely brilliant squad player, do we really feel Lingard offers enough outside the box and in the buildup to justify his role as the solid squad option?

Watch him for the second goal. Fred makes the mistake of passing to this coward. Lingard just decides to pass back to Fred and then stand behind him. Neville and Co don’t say anything about how Lingard who is supposed to be one of our hard workers tracks back. It’s all Fred and Darmian. Those two at fault definitely. But Lingard also played his part in that shit show too. Too often he just passes it back where it came from.

Ah man, if you only how this resonates with me and how it pisses me off when he does that. I bet he feels happy all inside when he does, like he is a ball retention master or something. That's about as coward as it gets when a player is on the ball

Everything is said about this clown.

The guy thinks he’s a potential ballon d’or. But he is 27 ! And his best years are gone.

How the hell can we rely on a guy who have only 10 assists in his entire career.

Just epitomize how poor our players are, and all our coaches were.

He will not leave because he is a popular figure around the dressing room and still a local boy, but with this kind of mentality we can only be where we are now.

West Ham level at best.

Such a joke I am tired of him wearing the shirt

You'll be disappointed by Chong. On one hand, it's true that Chong could be more dangerous because he wants to run at players and will run at players. On the other hand, I believe his decision making is still too immature. His end product isn't all that either.

Think Chong will take a while before he's a good contributor to the first team.

Greenwood makes the most sense. He has a more mature playing style, and has better end product than Chong.

I've always thought Chong looked better on the left wing than on the right. His dribbling for example looked much better on the left. I feel he could become a traditional winger, similar to Sane who's always been better on the left than on the right side.

I visited his instagram for the first time and i honestly wish i hadnt. An absolute cringefest. I can see Roy Keane's point when he talks about personalities such as this in todays game.

He gets a lot of protection and leeway due to being a youth academy project. I'm not sure of I'd sell him but I'd like for his future to at least be considered. His end product is really average, and would not look out of place at a club like Palace.

How do you know he thinks he has Balon d'Or potential?

For a 21 year old kid he isn't too bad and could potentially be a very good player when he gets to his prime years - 26.

not good enough to be a united player. needs to get off social media and concentrate on football a bit more.

performances this season, mediocre to pathetic.

Play mediocre players and expect mediocre results, it's as simple as that with Lingard.

TBH he is in the same category as an Ashley Barnes, Hard worker but very average technique-wise. These players aren't going to win you trophies.

He had his blooming period last season. He's like a daffodil that took years to appear and then was gone in a month, never to be seen again.

I hope Lingard isn't one of Ole's core players next season. I don't care what he does in the next games, he's long overdue doing something positive in a match. We can't wait 15-20 games for him to score a couple or be involved in a passing move.

Shouldn't be seeing many games next season and should realise that he needs to leave to get more games the following Summer. Just not sure who would buy him or pay him his wages.

Unfortunately he will be. And mediocre results will follow.

He's a charlatan. One of many in the squad, but this courtyard jester - living off the mistaken belief that he's a "young" player and off the ridiculous leeway of being a local lad - is particularly irritating.
Genuinely think he'd struggle to get a place in any other PL side.

When you have been following players for years, you notice how their game evolves into better or worse but at least you notice something. I have a hard pinpointing what Lingard has improved upon since he became a pro. It's like he's stuck at the same level forever

How do you know he thinks he has Balon d'Or potential?

Thinking he has Balon d'Or potential may be a bit strong but I'd say it's pretty clear he has an over inflated ego and confidence about himself.

An utterly average player wouldn't launch a fashion range or come up with a personalised goal celebration, not that we've had chance to see much of his JL goal celebration this season, unless he thought he was something special.

Also when he first came into the team he ran his bollocks off, he's never been good enough for Utd but he at least put a shift in. Now he thinks he's an established first teamer the work rate has decreased hugely.

He's nowhere near good enough to be jogging about.

Local lad, developing, knows the club and that's why he missed an open net. Took one for the team.

That's the worst part for me. A pure fraud like him acting the Billy big one. That does sum up everything wrong with our club, Yet the likes of Neville on punditry won't say a bad word about him.

I'd be banned if I wrote exactly what I think when I see him on the pitch and how I feel when I see his face whenever I open this thread. Berbatov used to frustrate me at times. Nani was annoying as hell on his bad days and Wayne's last two seasons were torture for my eyes. but the thing is, 1.) each of them gave us couple of very good to world class seasons and 2.) they were frozen out of the team when Fergie realized enough is enough. this guy was never good enough in the first place and never had seasons comparable to best years of the players I've mentioned yet it looks like he's always in first 11 or very near the starting line-up. we had worse players than him but those players never played as often as Lingard. the fact Anderson lasted for almost 10 years here was just sick but at least he wasn't playing. Bebe wasn't playing. Obertan wasn't playing. but this guy just continues to play, forever young, always "working hard", always "running", always "brave". because of that he's easily my most hated current United player and possibly ever.

Another player who struggles far too much with confidence. We are full of them. On a purple patch he’s really good. At the moment he looks shit scared, everything he tries is horrendous so most of the time he passes it 5 yards. We need players who are consistent and confident always even if they can be selfish sometimes. Son springs to mind.

TBF, this stopped after his initial injury, and then when he got re-introduced vs Liverpool and got hurt again.
Im wondering if its a case of him not wanting to get hurt (which basically means his best asset is taken away) or whether we brought him back too soon?

Fed up of this arrogant big time Charlie fraud, contributes the sum total of feck all whilst acting like a big shot.

Except it's nothing to do with confidence, just the fact that he's an average football player, and always has been. Add to that that he's not really a good athlete (not fast enough nor strong enough imo) and you get Lingard. If anything confidence he has in abundance while being an absolute average player who should be at Bournemouth not here.

Just couldn't believe how ill advised that joint pre-match interview with Michael Keane was. Glorying over youth successes no one even remembers. Then we got smashed by the grown ups.

I don’t think he’s a brilliant player but you’re talking complete garbage.

It hasn't really helped that people like Neville and Ferdinand have constantly blown smoke up his ass about how great his movement is. It seems like he's happy enough these days just getting by off that.

He hasn't got a clever pass, he hasn't got any tricks/can't beat a man 1v1, he doesn't have a left foot and can't head.

Take away his famed movement and stamina and he's just bang average. I've never really rated him but he had that purple patch where I thought he'd turned corner. Turns out it was just banging Jenna Frumes gave him an extra 10%.

You are right. He doesn't even look like a decent squad player right now

Yeah, spouting nonsense about a player lacking confidence while in reality he has been the same shit contributor his entire career, is the genius talking in you then. The one talking garbage here is not me.
