He's "consistent close ball control" skill off of being really damn good. Under and overrated at the same time, for different reasons.

Backed him even when it wasn't the cool thing to do, we know he's a limited player but his limits are so much better than what mata and michy are producing atm

Great goal and great game

Well done to Jesse, good performance and a great goal. Now go on and prove me wrong on Saturday also.

See this is the big thing for me, can he go on a run of having 5-6 good games in a row. Some people on here are acting like he has won the Balon D'or tonight.

While it was a brilliant goal he should have passed it to Lukaku given the situation we were at that time. The probability of him losing the ball and they counter attacking was much more than he pulling a goal like that.

Fair play to him though.

No white text?

Yeah. Looking at it, Giggs should probably have crossed the ball instead of going for goal against Arsenal in 99 - I mean, how often do you score at such an angle?

Lingard should have passed to Valencia instead of Young for Young’s first goal. All kinds of mistakes.

A squad player who will occasionally produce moments of brilliance. That's actually so valuable. What's not to love about Lingard?

Reminded me of a goal Nani scored away to Bolton back in the 10/11 season.

Lingard is going to look a hell of a player in Youtube compilations in a few years. Does not score many but they tend to be crackers.

Lukaku was in a poor position to ask for the pass IMO. But at the same time helps Lingard to execute the solo goal. I'm sure some of Watford players also expected him to pass it to Lukaku.

I hope I'm wrong but I doubt we'll see a better goal from a United player this season. Four players and he took them all on, despite having Lukaku out wide on the right.

He was superb tonight, the hate for him from some of our fans is beyond embarrassing, yes he's inconsistent at times but we've had other players who have been inconsistent that played for this club and they got nowhere near the same amount of stick that he's getting. He sacrifices a lot for the team and doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Was class and really like him as a squad player. Don't think he should start next week though even though he had a good game today. He doesn't play well in big games against other top teams. Or very rarely. Also maybe just shouldn't play on the wing as he's actually quite a good player as a 10, but not good at the wing.

The problem is a lot of people genuinely don't really know what they're talking about.

No, fans know a lot more than successful managers do. I've read on here so many times about how crap our players are, especially, Young, Valencia, Lingard, Lakuku etc and no one wanted Matic as he was way too old to be spending money on. I mean come on when are fans ever ever wrong?

While at it, lets do take him to the levels of Messi and CR7 as well - it's indeed fun to read !

I'm sure his assist to Young counts thought he barely created anything with that pass.

Very good game. Had a bad patch in the period when Watford came back, short passing that wasn't connecting with players and didn't track back properly but saved the game in the end.

He had an incredible premier league game, his best this season yet. However there are some kneejerk posts here, one good PL game doesn't automatically disprove all the criticisms (valid ones, not just baseless hating) fans have towards Lingard. In fact some of the the troubles I have with Lingard were quite present in this game, I will concede that he did a great job a capitalizing on the individual mistakes of Watford's players and his run at the end was great too.

Hopefully he will raise his consistency and improve in other areas over the course of the season, the last thing I want is to be "right" about having United not having good enough players.

I'm sure that is one of the best goal ever scored. Beating how many people and then bam! Giggsy-esque there. Also reminded me of the goal Ronaldo scored against Fulham.
I like Lingard.

I would definitely start him against Arsenal although consistency is a problem with him. Still though, he was far better yesterday than Mkhitaryan has been for a long while now.

That's always been the story but nonetheless, he was very good tonight and let them have this moment. It's the first time in a long time that I though he was good, can he do it on regular basis it's another thing of course. I would gladly eat my words for every match till June, it would give us a very good option.

Jesse always has a great performance and goal in him, the question is whether he can put it all together and find consistency. You never know he could be one of the late bloomers where everything clicks at 28 and later, ultimately no harm in keeping him as a squad player.

It’s a question of whether he produces the goods in a big match against decent opposition like Arsenal. He certainly deserves his spot over Mata and Mhikitaryan right now, I’d just feel very sceptical of his influence on the game at the weekend.

He's always been a decent squad player and the criticisms against him have been mostly OTT. He has limitations of course but he wouldn't be a squad plyer if he didn't have them. He may rarely score but most of his goals have been important.
