He's nothing special but this is why I don't mind him as a squad player at all. Perfectly fine with his role and I probably prefer him to Miki and Mata as squad players considering how useless those 2 have been this season. Good half, but should've scored.

I actually look forward to the day the guy gets a bit older; possibly losing a bit of pace & taking some time in what he does. Think he will turn out to be a bit better than people expect. Late bloomer guy.

Kinda agree with that. He’s quite manic in everything he does. Like a hamster on a wheel. If he’d just take his time and think more about what he is doing he’d be a far better player I reckon.
I hate him in the position he’s playing tonight as I always feel he does too much non intelligent running. Basically running like a headless chicken where in if he didn’t do as much and thought about his runs he and the team would do better. His workrate can never be questioned, I just wish it was smarter.
I agree with alot of what you say except I think he is significantly better in this position - but again as we discussed his runs are also made on instinct & pace rather than taking his time. I reckon it will come in time once he his pace a bit & he grows up even more.
I think to be fair to him, when I picture a player playing in that position I think of Badgio, Dybala, Zola, Cantona, silva and your likes. A player who can make runs but can also put there foot on it and pass it about, slip in passes and just create havoc.

Lingard is a squad player & a good one. You are right about those other players.
The 352 runs around 2 pivots the central attacking midfielder & the 3rd middle central defender. We could use this pivots defensively or attackingly.
The most attacking type of CAM/SS in the 352 like dybala or a zola would primarily be making runs in beyond after playing the ball forward. The more defensive/withdrawn CAM/SS would focus on taking the right spaces & holding up the ball to allow the midfield including the wing backs to making attacking runs whilst the 2 strikers run in the empty spaces.
Same thing with the CB- Smalling is the sweeper playing as the deepest pivot recycling the ball towards either LCB or RCB. The more attacking version would have a ball playing defender who brings the ball forwards and makes runs in front of the 2CB's to initiate attacks.
Basically there is the space for someone like dybala in our squad to allow us to play a more attacking version of the 352; but Lingard would be a good player for whenever we need to play more defensively. Likewise our Middle CB of the back 3 could be switched to allow us to play more offensively if we wish.
