Fletcher in early days got criticized for his limits, but later showed his quality in our squad. The most crucial reason for him to succeed here was his attitude imo.
Lingard has always been criticized, but the fact that he is always fit and ready when called upon, never complain about his playing time, and willingness to trust the manager shows me that he may be a better squad option later on.
His wage is too high? We do have enough money. We're not Spurs. Plus he is academy graduate.
Did we really have to win Basel game tonight? No. And Lingard won't be starting in games where we need 3points. If Lingard was starting games week in and week out, then I'll be complaining.
At 25 Fletcher was a quite regular starter and we lamented his red card at Arsenal that ruled him out of the CL final. So let's not compare him to Lingard, he was a far better and more useful player.

He's just awful, no use what so ever.

What does he offer the team? Running? We get that from a terribly out of form Mkh, but at least Mkh is actually a footballer.

As usual......Non-productive tiki taka. No contribution. No mistake. Nothing, just nothing at all.

Can't blame him, can't praise him, because that's his standard.

Fletcher at this age was definitely a fair bit better than Lingard. I don't mind him and would happily keep him around as a squad player but a lot of the defences offered regarding him in this post don't have a lot to do with his actual footballing ability. And while it's always handy to have a player who's eager and a good squad component, for me that should really be a given with any player as opposed to a notable positive.

I wonder if he realizes he's stealing a living at the club or is he delusional enough to think he deserves a place in the team.

Does anyone know what the win rate is when he starts for us?

What does he even do? Really compile a list of his genuine attributes and what do you have that isn't the bare minimum you'd expect for any footballer at one of the 92 league clubs.

Running
Works hard
Capable of scoring the odd goal
"Movement"

He's 25 and his performances are routinely indistinguishable from what you'd expect from a 17 year old making his very first senior appearance.

What is Lingard? Is he kept around as some sort of courtyard jester with his dabbing and dancing to keep the real footballers happy?

He's like a frail child playing against adults.

"Local Lad", "Gives 100%", "Puts a shift in"... blah blah.

I can't tell you what he is, but i can tell you what he isn't. A winger, a no10, a central midfielder or a striker.

You forgot top class movement. He was so good in his movement last night that every time one of his team mates tried to play a one-two with him he was already gone by the time they passed the ball back.

If his own teammates have no idea where he's going to be with his movement what hope have the opposition got?

The thing that bugs me the most. He takes the ball, goes with the ball, makes a move like he will attack defender and then he does cleverley- pass the ball to first player. Every time. Every single time. He can be local, he can run all day but i can't accept winger who plays on safe every fecking single time. Just can't. Our defensive midfielder matic goes in dribble , tries something, even darmian tries to do something on his own in attack but our winger whos main job is to create, does not even try. He is a winger who didn't ever dribble past player. Shocking.
Someone said it good - instead of him , lets just try gomes or chong or some other kid.

Jessica Lingard is very soft player , he got shoved off the ball 99 out of 100 times without forcing opposition to foul him.
so he would avoid physical contact/duel as much as he can since it's pointless to do so
Not every small player are weak, player like messi and hazard are short and strong.
or at least Mata has vision , movement and can actually pass in front of player
lingard is just very soft , no creativity ,no killer pass, can't dribble player, him being fast is a myth as well looking at 39 years old ref beat him in foot race
he isn't footballer , i doubt he is even an athlete, he should be a dancer instead
Homegrown quotas have to be met.
just promote our youngster to replace him

if i was as shite as him and getting paid 100k p/w i won't complain either

how he survive here for all the years manage to get into first team and even getting new contract worth 100k p/w is unbelievable , he probably have the ability to hypnotize people around him, jose is currently under his spell

So did Winston Bogarde. If you pay them enough, average players wouldn't mind finishing their career even in Reserve.

How is him being compared to Fletcher or previously Park is beyond, it shows serious underrating OS some of our great players as Park and Fletcher compared to this nothing player.

The kid, no, the guy is at his 25, he doesn't have much room for improvement anymore, he near to being a finished article and his overall production to the team is just terrible. He doesn't assist nor score nor create anything particular. He's not even that fast IMO and gets caught easily by opposition defender.

He'll stay as he's from the academy but his level is league cup games. He's not even a good squad player to depend on in jury crisis let's be honest.

So we play him when we want to lose a game?! What's the point of having a squad player who, when you include in the team, is not there to help you win it.

First of all his chidlish attitude do not help, and time had come and is soon going past where he has to to next level, seen nothing of him bar cup games till now which can prove he is stepping on to that next level.

He's been a bit all over the shop to be honest. Not great on the right, not great drifting and not great as a sole 10. He's a player that is really hard to get a grasp of some semblance of concrete form from.

This is the most painful thing. We could easily give those minutes Lingard gets to Angel Gomes or Boonen and it would probably improve our team immediately besides the long term benefits.

You know you are bad when you have scored in finals post-fergie and fans still prefer youth players like Tuazebe, Mctominay and Pereira over you. Jesse Lingard is stealing a living under Mourinho.

Not a winger, that's for sure. Doesn't possess the pace and trickery to beat his full back hence why he constantly passes the ball back centrally. I don't think we can complain too much as he is squad player and is used as one. Still has the ability to score the odd goal with fantastic movement so I'd like him to maybe stay around another season and see whether he can improve.

Either that or those fans are ungrateful, hysteric, delusional muppets

Fans have been more than lenient to Lingard. This is his 3rd season in the first team now, and he got a pass with alot until the last few months when now pretty much everyone can see he is crap, even the most blinkered of fans.

I actually think he does more when he plays than either Mata or Mhki.
That isn't a statement that 'Lingard is good enough to be a starter next season' but it does raise doubts, from my perspective, about the players we currently have to select.

Watford 2:4 Man Utd
Having a good game so far. Definitely a better player at Am than on the wings.

His movement is superb, lacks complete control on the ball though sometimes but he is involved in all the good moves.

His movements allows him to pick the spaces mostly without the ball which makes it overrun their defence. He isn't able to do this as a winger in my opinion.

Aye his movements very good and not hard to see why he's been chosen ahead of Mata and Mkhi, he's actually getting involved for one.

Yeah, not as a winger but this fluid front 3 suits him,

Whatever people say about him we're once again in a position where the supposedly better players haven't been good enough to get picked ahead of him

Jose got this one spot on, Watford are poor defensively and having Lingard in as the 10 picking up on their defenders mistakes is what’s giving us these counter attacks so close to goal
